His heel blocks are so big so he can gravity blast with his feet. Since he sits pretty high up the heels of his feet must be able to reach past the bottom of the pedal a little bit to get the motion just right to perform heel toe(RRLL).

Cause this guy and other musicians alike that come from realm of music typically teach themselves how to play. These dudes are not classically trained and taught "proper" technique by like a jazz teacher or something like that. These dudes learned by listening, and used whatever means necessary to eventually be able to play stuff like this, and alot of the time it's not "correct".

I've seen this before, the grip technique I think it's called the Push Pull (Open/Close) Moeller which I saw from an old Jim Chapin video. Whilst his foot technique is called Double Stroke, that I also seen from Wanja Nechtan and the drummer of Origin John Longstreth. The leaning part makes the the foot technique stronger and faster that even without triggers, you can still be able to hear it. This is total genius, and I believe he's self taught. Figured it out all by himself.

I've always been amazed how Alex gets that much power in his strokes when playing so fast. When you listen to some drummers there's a huge difference in the snare strokes when they play blast beats compared to when they're not (which is understandable/logical). My theory is that Alex is actually a cyborg. There's no other logical explanation to this.
