Here I am! All I can say is that plant-based Doctors and Vegan Influencers are doing a major disservice to the community at large by putting a dogma over the health of the people. We do not receive these truths about nutrition from the Vegan/plant based experts. I am angry! I am angry that I was fooled into believing eating just plants would heal me. I am angry that I believed the lies and held the plant-based Doctors in high esteem, blinding me to the reality of how deficient I was. They have to maintain their lies by warning their followers from doing Keto ... because what's the next step after keto? Carnivore. And then the truth comes out!

🙋🏾‍♂️I'm ex-vegan but "only" did 4 years of it so I didn't get super sick. But yeah, the more you look into it, if it's nutrient density and health that matters most to you, you HAVE to include animal foods to thrive. Supplementing is not the same. I don't judge people for choosing to go plant based as I chose to, but don't be misled into thinking it's (healthy) healthiest...

Well there are a lot of people that've benefited from eating a plant based diet. It's not as nutrient dense as a diet that includes animal foods but at the same point in time, it's not like it's a diet that will make literally everyone sick. Just for the record, I'm not a vegan but can openly say these words without having a complete bias. Just be mindful about making these type videos Kait. Have your own "KZfaq identity" instead of just doing what every other KZfaqr does when it comes to talking about vegans. Just my two cents. :)

I did the vegan diet for a year. It was "well-planned" despite what vegans like to tell me. I started the diet to experiment and see if it would help me. It didn't. My periods were very irregular and painful with spotting in between, my hair was thinning, I was retaining fluid, I was gaining weight, my migraines got worse, my digestion was terrible, my energy was lacking and my blood sugars were out of control. I had many of these issues when I was on a standard diet, but I only got worse when going vegan. One day, I was intensely craving meat, so I ate it. My periods became normal and painless after a few months of keto and my acne dissappeared after a week. Keto (mostly carnivore) gives me relief from migraines as well. Carnivore is the only diet I feel great on, I even have 3 family members and my boyfriend who started keto or carnivore because of the changes they saw in me. It has been 2 years for me on keto now and 6 months on carnivore and I am grateful to have come across it. Thanks for your awesome videos.

I was vegan for about 2 years, took a lot of supplements, multivitamins ect, but that way of eating just led me to anorexia with a lot of another symptoms. Although my analysis were good, I obviously was nutrient deficient. So maybe blood test found those supplements in my body, but nothing was absorbed. ONLY eating animal food made me feel millions times better

There are probably thousands of naturally-occurring, unidentified chemical compounds in real foods that are necessary co-factors for the proper digestion and utilization of essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Modern biochemistry has only scratched the surface, yet vegans have the _hubris_ to assume that simply taking a handful of pills containing discrete substances in what are likely improper amounts can adequately substitute for _real food._ It just isn't true.

because the scientific community has proved her wrong hence why she links zero studies. she's just making claims without showing health outcome data. saying vegans can't get iron without showing what percent of vegans are iron deficient is just a claim. you need real science to base your claims on and the science says as long as vegans eat a balanced diet iron isn't a concern. if it was she would link every study in the world showing vegans are dying from their iron levels but she isn't she's making claims.

@@superbigblack There's plenty of science to back up this way of eating. You have to be willing to see it of course. I'm certainly not going to claim to be an expert or spend my time pointing out studies but they are there. I don't know about iron but I do know that there isn't a single plant source of B12 and simply supplementing it with a synthetic version simply doesn't count. Whole, organic, grass fed, pasture raised ect animal products are 100% perfectly healthy and there are plenty of clinical, not survies, studies to back it up.

Some veggies come to keto carnivore on their own, but it seems only after they’ve become unbearably sick in some way. @@lil-al It really is. I watched a vid by Frank Tufano, where he was critiquing this vegan woman's journey back to some sanity. In it she said how she and her boyfriend decided to go vegan. He never had health issues or acne and they both developed both issues. But it wasn't due to going vegan! It had to be something else. For something like 5 years they went to doctors and modified their diet, staying vegan, just varying the type (raw, low carb, etc). The doctors told them, eat meat. But the doctors were wrong and they just couldn't find the answer to their issues. They eventually allowed eggs and fish back into their diets. However, their issues were never because they went vegan, they had underlying issues to begin with. OMG! Even with all that evidence smacking them in the faces, the brainwashing was that deep.

The beta carotene to retinol conversion estimates also doesn't take into account that huge upfront doses of beta carotene rarely, if ever, convert the way the math claims. The body can't process it. Eating smaller amounts of beta carotene throughout the day would result in better conversion, but who even does that? So combine poor overall conversion rates with poor conversion rates from high-dose beta carotene sources - like eating an entire sweet potato, or even taking a supplement - and what's left for your body to use? Who knows! It's veeeegan!

How can she be vegetarian if she eats fish? I've never understood why people who continue to eat animal flesh call themselves vegetarian. Isn't that just omnivory? I'm not saying that a _pescetarian_ diet isn't healthier than a vegetarian one (it certainly can be). It just seems like an abuse of language to call such a diet vegetarian. Fish are vertebrate animals -- more similar than they are different to any terrestrial mammal, with brains, central nervous systems, and everything else that goes a long with that. How therefore can anyone honestly include fish in a vegetarian diet?

@@HealthCoachKait Those are "non-essential" in the strict sense, meaning that a biochemical pathway exists in the human body which can, in theory, convert other substances into these "non-essential" nutrients. That's assuming of course that those precursors are supplied in adequate amounts, and there are no genetic factors which negatively affect the endogenous synthesis. Contrary to what vegans mistakenly believe, this does *not* mean that these nutrients are not an essential part of the human diet. In many cases, these biochemical pathways cannot produce _enough_ of the substances to maintain good health, so they must be obtained from food. Good examples of this would be _taurine_ and _choline,_ both of which are declared "non-essential" by biochemists, yet these are almost always deficient in vegans. _"Although taurine is synthesized in humans, the current study suggests that the rate of synthesis is inadequate to maintain normal plasma taurine concentrations in the presence of chronically low taurine intakes."_ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3354491 _"When deprived of dietary choline, most men and postmenopausal women developed signs of organ dysfunction (fatty liver or muscle damage)"_ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16848706

Great information, BUT, Kate could you post your sources in the description? I make these arguements regularly with those that disagree with my keto-carnivore choices. I would love to read these studies to have some "beef" behind essential vitamins in meat based diets. It is frustrating how ingrained the idea that "vegetables are the best source of nutrients for the body." Most people cannot give me good sources for that arguement.

Hey Emily! If you look up the nutritional profile of beef on any good database (chronometer doesn't count) you will be able to see if has all vitamins and minerals. I agree. Every cell in the human body is capable of synthesizing cholesterol provided that the necessary precursors are supplied, and I am not aware of any significant limitations on endogenous synthesis (unlike many other "non-essential" compounds like taurine, choline, and DHA). One of these precursors appears to be _saturated fat,_ because vegans and omnivores who avoid saturated fat have chronically low levels of cholesterol which has numerous deleterious effects (increased risk of cancer, infection, dementia, mental illness, violent behaviour, poor impulse control, low vitamin D, low testosterone in men, etc.). However, dietary cholesterol is still beneficial, since it spares the body of the considerable cost in synthesizing the stuff.

I supplement a whole food plant-based diet with small amounts of meat and fish. So, my diet is a low fat, high whole grain carb diet, as no refined oils and fats are used. I only use vitamin D and vitamin B12 supplements. I eat between 3500 and 4000 Kcal a day despite wedging 54 kg, so I eat large amounts of food, containing a massive amount of nutrients. For example, I get one gram of magnesium, 80 grams of fiber, 150 grams of protein a day. I strongly believe in eating this way instead of eating (relatively) smaller quantities of special foods that are better absorbed or converted with higher efficiency by the body to the compounds needed. The body has evolved all sorts of systems to deal with the foods that can typically be found in nature. Meat, fish and eggs are part of a natural diet, but not in such huge quantities to meet all our nutritional demands from. I.m.o., bypassing systems that the human body evolved to use, such as the microbiome is not going to be optimal for long term health, even if it does help some people with certain symptoms. It's analogous to bypassing the capacity we have to exercise by not walking, running and using our cars all the time. It turns out not to be all that good for long term health. While one can manage an inactive lifestyle by reducing calorie intake, it's not going to be optimal for health. Just like I don't want to lose my muscles and my cardiovascular fitness and exercise for an hour a day, I also don't want my microbiome to atrophy away. So, I need to feed my microbiome, which means eating about 80 grams of fiber a day. But the gut microbes cannot survive on fiber alone, they also need protein, iron, magnesium etc., and that's where plant-based foods with lower bioavailability for many nutrients compared to meat comes in. Microbes in our large intestines will get their required nutrients if we get a significant fraction of our nutrients from plant-based foods. The diet I eat is not something any one can just start with. For example, today I had 1 kg of potatoes, 300 grams of broccoli , 300 grams of carrots and 80 grams of walnuts for dinner. Being able to eat this way requires having a good enough gut fitness. And i.m.o. that's healthy, just like being physically fit and being able to run for one hour at a fast pace is also healthy.

Why wouldn't it be? It is made and used by every cell in our bodies because it is essential to life. Dietary cholesterol is *exactly the same* as what is synthesized by the liver for the production of bile. Cholesterol is a specific molecule, just like table salt, water, or any other chemical compound -- there are not different types of cholesterol, any more than there are different types of sodium chloride. It is so important and useful that our digestive system is designed to scavenge and recycle bile to make new cholesterol. It is a _homeostatically regulated_ substance -- if we ingest less, our bodies make more, at some metabolic cost. Given these facts, a much _better_ question is: "What's your evidence that it's *unhealthy* to eat dietary cholesterol?" and how could that possibly be true?

can you show a study where people took d2 and other took d3 and the d2 people had problems? no because if you did you would've provided that evidence. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5324269/ from conculsion "We conclude that: 1) the effects of D2 and D3 supplements on 25(OH)D level may be dosing-schedule, time and sex dependent. In the long term, D2 appears to be most effective when given daily and D3 appears to be most effective when given 2-weekly. Further, females appear to mount larger 25(OH)D response to D2 than males. 2) The D2-associated reduction in 25(OH)D3 level appears to be related to the increase in 25(OH)D level rather than being D2-specific, as it is related to baseline 25(OH)D level and D3 treatment may be also associated with a reduction in 25(OH)D2 level. This together with the well known association between baseline 25(OH)D level and response to D treatment suggest a regulatory mechanism that may be exploited in fine tuning determination of normal 25(OH)D level. 3) D2 appears to be 25-hydroxylated faster than D3. 4) The association between BMI and response to D supplement may be more pronounced with D2 and during the first few weeks of treatment. 5) D2 and D3 level in response to treatment are higher in females compared to males. 6) D treatment is associated with an increase in urinary creatinine level, which makes assessment of D effect using ratios that include creatinine misleading." so for a woman like you d 2 is better. this took me 20 seconds to locate hopefully you start researching real studies and leave blogs alone. ps my research was from 2017 yours is from 2011.

Why is it that so many of the newly-minted vegans I come across describe their previous diet using terms like "meat based"? Generally, these people are switching from an omnivorous (SAD) diet to veganism, and about 70% of the calories in the Standard American Diet come from plant sources. What they really mean is that they have switched from a crappy plant-based diet which included some meat to what might be a somewhat less crappy plant-based diet -- at least in the short term. As others have noted, cutting out sugars and processed food, combined with the weight loss that usually occurs makes people feel better -- _for a while._ The effect is similar to prolonged fasting. Once the body runs out of the essential nutrients that had been stored up on the omnivorous diet (chiefly fat soluble vitamins and minerals, but also things like DHA and some amino acids), these people's health starts to fall apart, and they don't understand why. Usually this takes somewhere between 2-5 years, depending on prior nutrient status.
