I did blood runs back in the 1990s and got pulled over for doing 80mph on a 70mph dual carriageway. I was carrying blood that needed to be on Lowestoft hospital from Cambridge for an emergency operation that was being performed, and I was on blues and twos , I got pulled into a lay-by by police who kept me there for 30mins whilst doing checks, they eventually let me continue, but I got a fine and 3 penalty points for speeding . I was late for the operation and got a nasty response from the hospital surgeon. Luckily the patient survived.

@Simon Dec The law sees a difference. Ambulances are specifed in certain sections of the Road Traffic Act as being exempt from those sections, whilst human organ (ie Blood Bikes) are not. Human Organ vehicles are however specifed in the Construction and Use Regulations as being exempt from the prohibition of having blue lights and sirens. It's not just Human Organ vehicles, I recall the same anomoly applies also to coast guard, mountain resuce and bomb disposal, but you'd need to check. Conversley, HMRC have RTA exemptions but no blue light and siren exemption. The two are not the same thing. Blue lights merely identify you as an emergency vehicle, they don't give any rights in themselves. Vehicles exempt under the RTA do not need blues and twos on (if they're even allowed them) to be exempt, and having blues and twos does not make you RTA exempt even if you are allowed to have them fitted and on.

George Lee. The point of this is the rider is being looked at to see if his riding is up to the required standard that he can use blue lights & siren and is above all safe in doing so. If you look into the mirrors of the bike you'll see they're being followed be another bike that's the person who makes the decision.

Clearly unaware of the protocol for siren usage. The long "wail" is used on long clear stretches to warn of the approaching vehicle, this is then changed to the "yelp" when a hazard is encountered ie a junction and then back to the "wail" again. It helps reduce "complacency" of the public.

They have no exemptions to traffic lights and signs, they are not classed as emergency vehicles, regulations 3, 37(5) and 99 of the road vehicle (construction and use) regulations 1989 does not allow for blood vehicles be it vans cars or bikes to be fitted with lights or sirens. I’m a retired NHS paramedic, if you claim any of the exemptions and you cause an accident then you will need to be able to justify your actions whether it’s your fault or not. Delivery of blood, tissues or breast milk is not an emergency. Ps I was involved in a serious RTA which was not my fault whilst on a 999, I was arrested and read my rights, investigated and exonerated of blame. Very stressful to say the least.

The standard of riding seems generally good, the only issue is speed, Blood Bikes I believe it has been agreed with the NBBA will not exceed the speed limit, as with NHS Blood vehicles you have no exemption to speed limits, you clearly try to you caution but do creep up over 30 limits 36 at one point, on the multi lane in nation speed gets up to 80/81. Do I agree with the limits on a blood bikes I may not but uploading this to youtube could backfire

I know this is an older video now and I hope that you'll take this in the spirit that its intended but I was very disappointed to see the bike started without having the clutch in - I hope that I'm teaching granny to suck eggs here but starting with the clutch in is primarily a safety feature to guard against the bike being in gear and launching out into the traffic - it also reduces the load on the battery and starting gear as you only turn over the engine and not the engine and gear box - at the end, the rider stepped of the bike and then switched it off ? - if he had hit the gear stick on the way off, the bike would be off and doing its own thing across the car park - you are not in full control of the bike in either of these circumstances and I would be very surprised if the Instructor didn't pick up on such an important and basic fault - putting the bike into danger usually constitutes a fail - personally I don't put my stand down whilst i'm still on the bike - I do it when i've stepped off so that I can see what the foot is going to be sitting on - I have full control and I can use my foot to lock the spring loaded stand in place until I'm happy that its locked forward and the weight of the bike has held it in place. As I said - I hope that you'll take this in the spirit that its intended - hats off to you for doing it but you can keep yourself safer than this - these things are hugely powerful and if it launches it might take you with it - stay safe gentlemen - regards - Dale

Pretty sure the bike wont start in gear as per most modern bikes since about 2000 so most of the issues you mention are a non starter.I guess you could knock in to gear after starting but you could do that with a lot of vehicles and most dont start with a clutch in. I do recognise that it was taught in my test way back in early 90s but dont think its an issue here.

@@adv-nomad i do get what you are saying, but im with dale on this one. yes thereis safety precautions in place with newer bikes and they work a charm but i dont put my 100% faith in them and souldnt either. i start bike with clutch and id switch bike off while on it for control. when the bike is off i can relax and get off but untill then i like to be in control 100% time as anything can happen. but i totally understand what youre saying and i do agree they should be there for an extra hand if needs be but if you start with checking youre not in gear and even then i start with clutch as it may be a fauls neutral just an extra precausion

Steven kiel Regulation 36 gives the meanings of signals, including red, and also sets out which organisations are exempt under certain circumstances. For completeness it’s fire and rescue, ambulance, bomb and explosive disposal, national blood service, police, Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and special forces. The exemption only applies when they’re on an emergency call.

@@randomchannel5386 Thanks for the reply mate. I am aware of the regs however the title says "NWBB" which correct if I'm wrong is North West Blood Bikes. Individual blood bike charities do not have any exemptions under these regs or the road traffic act, they are not the same as the National Blood Service who have their own liveried vehicles and as you say do have very limited exemptions which are pretty much only extend to treating red traffic signals as give way, no speed limit or contravening keep left and right bollards etc

@@randomchannel5386 No worries pal, Without saying how, I just know they don't and never have! Although I am also a CRO with HM Coastguard and they have the same as us, simply bluelight use to aid progress nothing more, my full time occupation well that's very different :-)

Good driving totally spoiled with your self appointed superiority when parking in disabled bays for no good reason

Get a life. There where several unused disabled bays so they where not blocking anyone and there is no indication they parked and left their bikes. Im disabled and fully understand that disabled parking is a concession and not a right. The hospital is private property so its not like a bay on a public road.
