Wegman's is NYC's Newest Grocery Store and it opened in Manhattan's Astor Place neighborhood. Its main highlight is its extensive selection of prepared foods, which includes everything from ready-to-eat meals to freshly baked goods. There is also a lower level for the traditional grocery store where produce and frozen items can be purchased.

I so wish we had something like this in Australia. It's one thing we lack here, ready to go meals. When I was in NYC and DC I loved the weigh-n-pay food venues. Such an awesome concept. And the food was soooo good!!

@@rick_terscale1111 You loved the weigh-n-pay food spots in DC??? Those were my least favorite. One day I was feening for some watermelon. I went to a weigh-n-pay place a half block from my office. I put 5-6 chunks of watermelon into a to-go box to take back to work. $7.50!! I took out some chunks and it went down to about $6. I left that watermelon sitting right there on the counter. After work I went to the grocery store and bought 2 watermelons for $6. Where did you enjoy living the most when you were in the states NY or DC? I LOVE DC!!! It's the best place.

I'm 27 and have been going to Wegmans here in Western NY since I was a baby. There's nothing like it. It's amazing to see people look in awe at stuff that I've taken for granted my whole life. Just hate that they didn't hire me when I was looking for a job in high school.

The Sakanaya at this store is just amazing. It's probably the only place in USA where you can buy fish directly flown from the Toyosu market at a reasonable price. All sushi grade, fresh fish that are rarely available outside of Japan. So glad that this is not a one time thing and it will be permanent operation

Growing up in Western NY, Wegmans was always the best supermarket chain out there and only continues to expand it's presence around the country and they have a reputation for treating their employees pretty well when compared to other grocery stores. There subs are huge for the most part. Please, no comparison to Publix at all! Wegmans is the major leagues compared to Publix.

Bob Wegman son of Walter Wegman is really the person that catapaulted Wegman's grocery stores to greatness - started in Rochester, New York - the number one attraction for visitors when they go to Rochester area is the Wegman's store in Pittsford, NY.

Yes, true. I just joined Wegmans in July, part time which is a new store here in Washington, DC (opened a year ago). The founder's son and the son's daughters are running the company basically. I'm a shopper, (for online shoppers) and I pick and bag and set up for pickup or delivery. I like it. 😁

Grew up in Rochester NY, where it all began. Cher was here some years ago and went shopping at the Flagship store in Pittsford. She was so impressed that she wrote corporate and asked them to come to Cali😊

I've been to Wegman's upstate NY a few times and it is a pleasure to shop in Wegman's. Wegman's has a legendary reputation and devoted following. I hope to see one on Long Island soon as possible.

I joined Wegman's here in Washington DC late last July as in-store shopper ( part-time online shopper purchases and pick and pack) and it's a nice store. It opened opened a year ago. I never heard of a Wegman's Grocery store before. Though big, our store is not even the biggest of Wegmans stores. I never worked in a grocery store before. I really like the job/work and co workers and even customers and speaking with the Instacart shoppers picking up and also, purchasing items for customers for delivery.😃

Exactly what I was thinking 😂, Wegmans actually looks superior to most grocery stores I've seen in the US because of all their varied hot already cooked food options. The best Publix in my opinion are in Miami though, they have more options than other Publix.

Night and day. Wegmans hands down. Their locations in Buffalo and Western New York have better prices. Loved the Wegmans on Transit back in the day. Beef on Weck from Charlie the butcher. Forget about it.

I’ve been to Wegmans in NJ and PA and this one definitely lives up to those. It’s a very nice supermarket. I wish there were one a little closer to me out in Queens.

For the folks that want to wait till a Wegmans is less crowded let me just say that as a lifelong shopper at Wegmans they’re stores are never less crowded. Unless you go late nights.

My first experience with Wegman's was at Binghamton NY. I bought a leg of lamb that turned out to be spoiled . I called the store and by chance got one of the Wegman family on the phone. Long story short, I was refunded and given a fresh leg of lamb at no charge as well as an honest apology. Their prices have increased but the variety and quality customer service have endured. I'm happy to see they've opened in Manhattan.

I left there on Saturday around 5:30. My jaws dropped! Carrying what I could, home on bus. Nno supermarket in NYC - not Whole not Trader, has the selection, quality and convenience of Wegs. Amazing basics of all kinds of 'ethnic' and less common product which can only be found at 'gourmet' or the local 'ethnic' neighborhood shops. The downstairs is larger full floor, just as it was for prior KMart there. Great bread and bakery section on the first floor. Great deli 'charcuterie' counter downstairs. There own fine quality (no Boar's Head or such!) They have a few non food items. There is also name brand candy, cereal, soda-Pop which are not things Whole, nor Trader carries. But amazing 'high end' fresh meat, seafood etc., shine there! Note: expect an eat-in space to open next year.

As a Trader Joe convert in Chelsea, I like that Joe and the Kids don't stock name branded stuff. What they offer is Trader Joe stuff that you won't find in any other stores. Trader Joe concoctions are wonderful, fun, unusual, and downright delicious. And Trader Joe's doesn't rest on past laurels....they beat the bush for new delicacies and appetizers and ales, which are introduced throughout the year. They make grocery shopping fun, and thrifty. All those kids in debt shop at Bezos, which features the highest mark-ups in town. Which is why they will always be in debt.

I don’t know how I came across your video, but I’m glad I did. I’m from Rochester, NY where the flagship, OG Wegmans started. I am not surprised they are now in Manhattan, surprised it took so long. We absolutely love Wegmans here. Most Western NY cities have quite a few Wegmans so it’s always fully stocked, fast and efficient. They are well known for offering jobs to high schoolers and giving scholarships. Great store.

I was a kid a hundred years ago, give or take, when bagging was a "profession" for teenage boys. They wore ties at work. They also had the common sense to NOT put your prize-find tomato on the bottom of the bag, next to the potato chips. Kids today are kinda flummoxed by all those rules of packing a poke. 'White bread in last' really trips them up, everytime.

We have it here in Western NY (Buffalo Metro) and it is considered the best supermarket with the most loyal customers (despite being a little bit pricier than other supermarkets). Their bakery is the best!

Wegman's is in upstate NY. It's so unreal to see major retail stores & restaurants in Manhattan. Target, chick fil lay, Chillis, Best Buy, Trader Joes, etc. These stores were typically in the outskirts of NYC, upstate NY or South..Many years ago!! UnBELIEVABLE!!

Sadly all of the small, individual businesses that made NYC unique have gone out of business. Everything that made living in NYC an otherworldly experience has disappeared, mostly in just the last 20 years. All the chains you mention weren’t located in the city because there were small grocers, hardware… some that just had nearly everything under the sun. You can see glimpses of this in places like Chinatown but as the owners get older, they too are moving out only to find a national chain takes their place. R.I.P. NYC.

@@ryangies4798 I think you put your finger on it when you say the owners of small grocers are old and retiring - the young people don't seem to be into running grocery stores, they are more likely to open restaurants, bistros, ice cream, and specialty stores - I think it has alot to do with mechanics of the operation - tons of supplier contacts, getting it to the store when it's fresh, being able to take the loss if product not sold - this Wegmans operation here is hugely complicated

We just got us a Target in my neighborhood. I've never been in a Target. But then, you've never been in a Bergdof's. Things like 7-11 or Lowe's are novelties here, not always embraced when they force shut Mom's and Pop's. I knew Manhattan shopping was forever diminished when Bloomingdales opened a branch in Florida. We now have unlimited lime green and orange things to compliment our all-black wardrobes. Chain stores are anathema to Manhattan sophistication. New York was better before Walgreens and Starbucks washed ashore.

@@ryangies4798 You took my words out of my mouth and said them better. I can still visualize all those tiny shops and pharmacies and diners lining both sides of Broadway on the West Side. Such variety and vitality. That was all replaced by Bed, Baths and Monster Books. Now, there's a Pottery Barn left, but all those other "box" stores have gone under. The little stores would still be flourishing if it wasn't for those invasive American chain stores. It is delightful to see new independent coffee stores opening around town. I wish they would make Manhattan great again by opening some independent "Diners" around town.

My thoughts precisely as the camera swirled here and there and there some more, then over here, whoa. Looks confused, as if it had never met an aisle. I miss Kmart a lot. It was dumpy but reliable when you wanted a coffee maker or something twee by Martha Stewart, or lightbulbs. Their grocery carried weird items that no one else offered. They had cheap plants. I bought palm trees on Saturday nights when I knew everyone was out of town. I carried them home in my arms. Three miles. Kmart was cheap and so was I.

As someone from Buffalo Wegmans is definitely THE favorite grocery store in Western/Upstate NY. My store is ALWAYS busy, kind of like this. We have one Whole Foods just outside of the city here and it’s literally never busy cause there’s also a Wegmans nearby and people prefer to shops there.

I used to live in Buffalo and we shopped at Tops! Do you still have them? They were huge, I remember, just bigger than downstate supermarkets at the time. One time my roommate and I went to a Wegman’s (I can’t even remember how we got there) and we were definitely wowed 🤩

This WNYer (Salamanca) also loves Tops and Wegmans as the go-to SUPERmarkets. They are the best! I live in Westchester now, and I have been to Wegmans in Harrison; it's nice, of course. I'll check out the new NYC store when the crowds diminish.😊

On my 2nd trip to Wegmans' on Astor Place I needed to use the restroom. I was told by a female employee, by the escalator that there was 1 single bathroom, 1 single toilet for Wegmans' customers. I went past the double doors, to an employee area, by the escalator and there was a line for the single bathroom. The employee told me that Wegmans' was not required to have a bathroom for customers. It's crazy, that Wegmans' would spend so much $$$ on this store and not have a customer restroom.

That seems strange, because most Wegmans have fairly large bathrooms. Ask to speak to a manager and find out what their plan is, or if perhaps there is a larger bathroom somewhere else in the store.

For your Upstate NY viewers, I only saw one signature regional food item associated with Upstate coming from Wegmans which is based in Rochester. Check out the Tomato Pie, basically a snack like a slice of pizza without the mozzarella cheese.

Wegmans usually has Western New York foods somewhere in the store. Many are in condiments where you can get Anchor Bar Wing Sauce and Chiavetta’s Barbeque Marinade. They usually also have Weber’s Horseradish Mustard and some jams/preserves.

I noticed there isn't any large shopping carts. Makes perfect sense because most NY'ers travel by foot or subway train so would only be able to handle what they can carry. Besides that the aisles are small. Very nice. Wegmans is known for their specialty departments and also their ready to eat items.

@@jreifsnyder2225 so it makes you wonder how do people carry all those groceries home then? Certainly there isn't a parking garage. And I'm sure most of the NY's don't have a vehicle. I did see shopping carts but were small and the baskets on wheels. In normal grocery stores there's a large grocery cart and a small two-tiered grocery cart.

Wegmans is a great grocery chain with a better selection than most competitors of its size but I think I'll wait till it isn't so crowded. More crowded than the Whole Foods in the Time Warner Center. As others said the lower level used to be Kmart with not many shoppers even when I lived in NYC back in 2016.... at least it was whenever I cut through it when it was raining or snowing since it was connected to an entrance to the Astor Place Station if I remember correctly.

I grew up in Buffalo, went to Syracuse U and lived in DC for 40 years before moving to the Finger Lakes of Central NY. I want to do a cartwheel every time I enter a Wegman's here. You csn find anything from pate to Capons, kimmelweck rolls and much more. It is Rochester based and was named the best market in Ametica in recent years. The bakerybus fabulous, as is the meat, seafood and produce. We are so very lucky.

Sometimes I regret moving to the south because I have to shop at Publix when Wegmans exists in this world 😢 but seriously Publix sucks. For my WNYers, it’s basically just an overpriced Tops with nicer employees. I don’t understand the hype. I’d drive 100 miles past dozens of Publix stores just to visit Wegmans if I could!

The groceries downstairs, where the Ready Made food, etccc upstairs . I don't know about now, in the past Wegman's used to hire 600 employees , that's the most , I have ever heard of. If we had a Wegman's I would visit weekly. Wegman's has a huge selection on everything ( choices ) where we don't have huge choices of food .

Wegmans isn't one that opens dozens of stores at once. They are very careful where they open. So their limit of new stores is just a few a year.

I went to college at Binghamton in the 90s and was in awe when I first walked into a wegmans supermarket that was so big it had 55 checkout counters = best place and brings back old memories from my time in upstate NY.
