@@OdintheGermanShepherd yes, because Filoni at this point is basically worshipped as a god by the fanbase, considering he and Favreau are the only people who managed to create good Star Wars content since Rogue One. But there are some examples of him breaking canon points. Ahsoka is a primary exemple: if she didn't die at the hands of Vader on Malakhor, what has she been doing all this time? Why didn't she help the Rebellion? Another example is Anakin and Dooku's rivalry. In Revenge of the Sith, Anakin says "my powers have doubled since the last time we met, count", implying they fought a long time prior. How did Anakin's power double in a week, considering Filoni made them fight numerous times between AotC and RotS? And let's not forget the icing on the cake: Maul. While bringing him back made him even more awesome, it screwed up many things, such as the Rule of the Two or the whole concept of Death in Star Wars.

The biggest problem is that the show didn't need to create any of these issues to begin with. They had no problem that needed solving. They could have told an entirely different story, without baby-Leia being kidnapped and ending up on the Empire's radar, without Kenobi coming out of hiding and fighting Vader, without all these plot holes and contra-canon events. Disney actively chose pointless and sensless scenes, they decided to have plotholes, they decided to contradict canon, they want this!

Am I the only one who thinks we should separate the animated with the live action because of the many inconsistencies they unnecessarily created? Like imagine if we had shows with the prequel actors that show some of the key moments in the animated shows while also staying true and grounded to the source material, the prequels and OT, connecting all the dots nicely without coming up with something else for a plot point that may be too dark for a family friendly show. Example, maul and kenobi but with the actors and tone from the prequels. Another example would be that, in the prequels, the clones knew about order 66 the whole time and the Jedi didn’t really form brotherhoods with the clones because of two reasons. 1.) the clones were just a tool for the war effort. 2.) the Jedi couldn’t form attachments like that because they were forbidden to do so. It wasn’t until Luke came along that he saw the flaws in that philosophy because it helped create Vader. His masters begged him to kill Vader but when he saw palpatine wanted him to do the same thing, and when he found what that rage he was feeling can lead to, he backed up and stayed true to his own code. His Jedi code. He proved his masters wrong. They said that saving his attachments is a path to the dark side but he proved them wrong. And in the “Legends” canon, which was originally canon before Disney screwed everything up, he trained Jedi with a different code that didn’t forbid attachments. Think of it as a continuation of the prequels and OT instead of something with different actors and different plot points, making inconsistencies in the story like grievous talking to obi wan as if it’s their first time dueling, or anakin telling dooku his powers doubled since the last time they met, referencing the duel in attack of the clones.

I've come to conclusion that everyone just missed George Lucas Star Wars so badly that we were willing to overlook the occasional plot hole and continuity issues so long as Disney was able to make good use of Obi-wan, Anakin, and Vader. But unless the last two episodes pick up in choreography and writing, I think Disney has failed once again to do even that.

I was worried about the Kenobi show because of the plot holes it might create. The trouble with creating a show around Kenobi is that his journey is pretty well defined. We know what he's going to be up to. There isn't really that much wiggle room available. These are creative challenges that the production team could've embraced. They could've created a very intimate and reflective series of Kenobi learning to come to terms with his situation and place in the galaxy. It should've been centered around his training to become a force ghost. It would've been interesting to see that happen kind of like those Yoda episodes in season six of clone wars. Instead, they create this storyline that is pretty tired out at this point. Rescue a kid from bad guys then have that repeat a number of times. Plus, Kenobi faces Vader now. It makes no sense. Vader was surprised by Kenobis presence in episode 4 and they had that confrontation. My question is - does Vader forget about Kenobi at the end of this new series? He's now seen him, he'd probably figure out where he's been hiding this whole time if he knew that Kenobi was still alive. Vader wouldn't stop searching for him. Overall, the fillmmakers don't care and will do whatever they want, regardless if they break cannon in the process.

If it ended with Vader thinking Kenobi was just a sad, broken old man I could maybe see him not bother to try to hunt him down, but that flies in the face of his attitude in A New Hope (he would have already proven his superiority over his former master and so wouldn't have those lines about it when they meet on the Death Star, and I imagine he'd probably agree with Tarkin's "surely he must be dead by now" in such a case). I'd be fine with some minor inconsistencies like that if the story was truly worth having, but so far I'm not convinced. And honestly Jedi: Fallen Order did a better job with very similar themes already.

Bail would have already been watched by Imperial Intelligence before these events. He was a prominent leader of the opposition during the Clone Wars, and thus a political enemy for Palpatine. How Bail, presumably a life-long public figure and politician, knew how to operate clandestinely is an open question. This was first raised with Clone Wars S7 when he started his little piece of what ultimately became the Rebellion, and even at the end ROTS when he took Yoda and Obi-Wan to their exile without detection. Openly acting against a Senator without clear and incontrovertible proof would be a problem for Palpatine. The Senate still has power and influence at this time, as Palpatine is not yet ready to openly take full control (which happens in ANH 10 years from this series). While Palpatine could deal with a surge of opposition in the Senate (both dedicated and moderate factions), it would still be troublesome and possibly cause a delay in his plans. Additionally, the suspicion on Bail would be extended to Alderaan as a whole. But again, without clear evidence of subversive activity, Palpatine could not allow open action against them while he needed to utilize the Senate. Hence, after the Senate was dissolved Tarkin was able to virtually casually destroy the planet. Tarkin’s explanation to Leia for Alderaan was not a lie, but it was not the whole truth. With the planet already under suspicion, it was on Palpatine’s hit list of thorns to be removed. Tarkin was merely recognizing an opportunity to move the planet up to the top of the list, with full Imperial justification.

Absolutely, even if the empire had suspicions they had no way of acting on them because of how Bail had so much gravitas and sway in the senate. In regards to Leia I feel pretty much the same. I was fine with her only knowing Obi-Wan as Ben until ep4 threw all that out the window. Why wouldn’t the empire further prosecute Leia after being rescued by a Jedi from an Inquisitor base. Only thing I can think of is Bail Organa sells Obi-Wan out but I don’t see that happening and it would create a plot hole in ANH when Bail is the one who sent Leia to contact Obi. I would have much preferred if Leia was only in the show for the first episode or two then we continued to follow Kenobi shake off the inquisitors and Vader before returning to his duty on tatooine. If they had followed that basic outline I feel like there would have been less opportunities to break canon.

Leia being in danger is about the only thing that would've justified him leaving Tatooine, but having her around for so long just screws with everything. To be honest, I stopped caring about this series after the third episode. At the start I was really excited for it and what they would do, but by now all the little nitpicky things have added up so much, probably made even worse by hearing how many other people aren't happy with it, that I don't really care about it and it will probably land in my "not actual canon"-bucket like the sequels did. -Fun part is that Luke was rightfully left out of the story for well thought reasons but Leia's inclusion does point a huge target at her back as you very rightfully analyze in the video. -We shouldn't be 100% certain about the fact that Kenobi is considered alive by the Empire. If you recall the "Rebels" episode where Vader talks with Palpatine Vader does consider him to be alive but Palpatine says "Perhaps, if he still lives". I wouldn't mind the plot holes if the series was well done and had a good story. Besides we cannot really be nitpicking every line from "A new hope" since even Lucas himself didn't really know the full plot when he was making that movie in 1977. The problem here is that unlike Rogue One which actually managed to close many plot holes including the massive one about the Death Star having such a huge security flaw without anyone noticing it, Kenobi as you correctly state creates more plot holes instead of closing old ones. Thus the big question is, why was this series made? Lets hope we might get the answer in the last two episodes.

I feel like they missed a very obvious (IMO at least) plot for the show that could have enhanced established canon without creating plot holes. They could have easily made the show simply about Kenobi’s journey to become a force ghost. We already know from revenge of the Sith that this is what he’s supposed to be doing, besides protecting Luke, during this time. We saw in TCW that Yoda had to go off world in order to complete his training, so it could easily be the same case for Obi-Wan, if they needed to throw in some diversity of location. You could even throw in some stakes by having him immediately sensed and hunted by Vader once he leaves Tatooine. It could have also been a cool opportunity to explore whether the journey to become a force ghost is the same for each Jedi who undergoes it. Personally, I would like it if it reflected the experiences of the individual, so Kenobi’s could be a lot less mystical, and more gritty and emotional, with lots of flashbacks. You could even have it culminate by having Kenobi and Vader, rather than meeting in person, connect through the force somehow, reminiscent of how Yoda fought Sidious and Tyrannus through alchemy in the clone wars. I feel like they just went completely the wrong direction by making the show more plot than character, and shoehorning Kenobi into a very generic feeling story.

I thought about the Bail Organa implications too, but I have to think the Empire’s more nefarious activities are not disclosed to the Senate; especially the exploits of Vader and the Inquisitors. So, while they may be suspect of Bail being a Jedi sympathizer, the Empire can’t really take deliberate action against him. They lied to the Senate about the destruction of Jedha City, so that they wouldn’t know the Death Star was responsible. That tells me their darker activities are kept private.

I just finished showing my family the Rebels episode "Twin Suns" and found this quote by Ben Kenobi interesting: "One doesn't survive as long as I have by being foolish or unprepared." In terms of plot holes, Rebels is canon and Ben admits to not being foolish and being prepared. Yet, in the Kenobi series, we see him have 10 years of disconnect from the Force (foolish) and he's buried his saber, given up the Jedi way (unprepared). Bonus point: I can't help but feel that one reason they are emphasizing the connection with Leia is that it also helps explain why Leia would name her son Ben (Kylo Ren) as opposed to Luke (with Mara Jade in legends).

another thing that makes this shows decisions totally bizarre is that its been established that Kenobi has let it be known he wants to train Luke more than once to Owen which totally conflicts with him having lost connection to the force. I think the end of the show will reveal how a Master Jedi will overcome tragedy & unprocessed pain to become fully enlightened with the Force. Obiwan will be at peace with himself and fully prepared, as shown in the OT. When facing pain & loss, Vader turned to anger & revenge, the dark side. When facing pain, Master Kenobi will show us “the way in the dark”: accepting your fate, and trust the Force, no matter what. In Part I, we see that Kenobi didn’t use the force in order to hide, but he never lost hope, he still wanted to train Luke as he told Owen. He’s never “given up the Jedi way”. Hiding was more important to protect Luke at all costs. But his mind was cluttered with doubts as to what his purpose & his fate were, because of guilt. he can’t accept his past & what he did to his brother & Padawan. He failed as a Master Jedi, and he left him for dead burning alive on Mustafar. He was haunted by Anakin’s angry ghost - because of guilt. He never apologized to Anakin, (like Master Cere did to Trilla for failing her). It’s because his mind is not balanced that he can’t use the Force to its full extent. (That’s what Kanan told Sabine, and the Armorer told Mando, when they couldn’t use the dark saber). At the end of the show, I think he’ll apologize to Anakin, will understand that Vader was too consumed and Anakin was dead, and he’ll find out that his fate is to protect & train the Chosen One so he can defeat the dark side & restore balance in the Universe, as Qui-Gon said. His fate was not to become a Jedi joining the Rebels, because he had a greater mission, for the greater good: hide, protect Luke & become a Jedi spirit that will support Luke against the dark side. So yes, he will be fully prepared. He tells Maul “look what I have risen above” in Rebels, and that the Chosen One will defeat Palpatine, before killing Maul.

A way to prevent plot holes in later stories is to set your story far and away from those stories. Obi Wan can still deal with Inquisitors, just not the Grand Inquisitor. To be fair, the OT destroyed it's own continuity by making Obi-wan a liar. Back when there was just 1 Star Wars film in 1977, Obi-wan had us all believe that Vader and Anakin were 2 separate characters and that he didn't know Luke and Leia were related at all. Every word that Obi-wan said to Luke was the gospel truth but when Empire Strikes Back came out in 1980, Vader destroyed Obi-wan's credibility just by saying the words, "I am your father". We get to 1983 and Return of the Jedi not only confirmed Vader's parentage, it also revealed that Leia is both his daughter and Luke's sister which further damages Obi-wan's credibility. You can't trust anything Obi-wan says about Anakin especially after we watch the prequel trilogy. My only issue with the Obi-wan series is that it made Obi-wan and Vader meet again even though there was no indication from A New Hope, Rogue One, or Rebels that they even saw each other prior to their final duel on the death star.

They only had two movies they had to make sure they fully aligned with, and not seeing how story decisions here are going to affect things in the next movie all of these characters are in together is extremely careless and not thought out. I don’t see why this show is needed, and by the end of it, I worry that it might be better off forgotten because of the the way it effects everything.

I met lots of people when I was 10, they were friends of my mother and father. I probably saw them dozens of times, and spent many many hours with/around them. Then I didn't see them again for over 10 years, when I did see them, I didn't presume to "know" them, or to speak to them as friends. I treated them with a level of formal respect, as friends of my parents. This is more than enough to explain how/why Leia speaks to Obi-wan in such a formal manner. She met him once, 10 years ago ... and they spent like 3 days together. Sure, it was an intense 3 days, where he saved her, and she most likely feels like she can trust him, and depend on him to help her because of it, but that doesn't mean she would speak to him as an equal, or in some casual manner. No, it is very fitting that she speaks to him with the utmost respect, and as a friend/ally of her father, and come to him with honor and humility in her time of need.

What I really don't understand is why does Disney desperately want to set themselves up for failure. This could have easily been an Obi-Wan character deconstruction. It's not too hard to make an interesting story set entirely on Tatooine in this period of time. Exploting the characters of Owen and Beru. Their relationship to Luke and Ben. In a sort of Smallville Superman Kent farm. This could have been like a old spaghetti western film style Obi-Wan. It is instead a glorified video game fan fic side quest

I've had all of the same issues with the series as you mentioned and a few others. Like you in a huge fan of the original movies and have read countless books of the now legends lore, that use to be cannon. My favorite aspect of the books was that they would be very meticulous in never breaking lore or contradicting themselves, and there are 100s of books, so I know it is possible. Which means Disney is simply choosing to NOT pay attention to lore, so far that they broke it with the new movies, and have set out to try to retro justify those broken movies with all of these mini series. And all they accomplish is to further destroy a once sacred story and further alienate the fans of the original lore that was the core base. They do not care about the story, they only care about money and over pushing "equality" in such a way that even me, being a native American, gets sickened by their agenda. And trust me I've fought for equality in all aspects of my life all of my life. Keep up the great videos.

I don' think the Empire knowing about the Organas being part of the rebellion is as serious an issue as you think it is. At the beginning of A New Hope, Vader knows she's a rebel. He straight up blows up her home planet. He knows what the score is. My assumption is that Alderaan is useful to Palpatine, for now, and that striking hard against them isn't to Palpatine's benefit. The more important issue for me is that it makes no sense that Leia would refer to her father fighting with Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Clone Wars, rather than him saving her life. That doesn't make any sense.

This is the very problem with these kinds of prequel stories or gap filling stories. Things get forgotten, ignored or just neglected. As far as Obi Wan Kenobi not mentioning Leia in TESB was answered in AOTC. In AOTC while Anakin and Kenobi are talking Kenobi argues that Palpatine is a politician and that politicians can't be trusted. He later might have applied this reasoning to Leia as well, ruling her out as a possibility to train as a Jedi.

I don’t know that “the empire” is aware of the kidnapping. So far all we know is that Vader and the inquisitors are in on it. Even in a new Hope, the empire is still worried about the senate. @@danielveres4351 I definitely think this is an issue they talked about at length and will resolve at the end of the show. Palpatine and Vader knew Bail was close to the Jedis. They didn’t need Reva to come up with this plan. The issue is that they need evidence that it was Kenobi that saved Princess Leia. So my speculations: Inquisitors don’t talk because they don’t wanna be blamed for kidnapping a royal Princess, Reva turns & joins the Rebels, or gets killed. They disguise Leia, like they did in Part 1, and Bail pretends Princess Leia was never kidnapped. Bail was careful not to tell anyone in Part 1. It wasn’t Leia, so no ties can be proven. Then Obiwan tells Leia to pretend that they never met in the future, for her own safety. But I’m sure they’ll come up with something. They repeatedly have said they respected Canon. It’s intriguing, isn’t it?

One thing you have to remember about her message to Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope is that it was not only "formal", but it was made on behalf of her father. Bail formed the mission and instructed Leia to send a message to "General Kenobi" on his behalf to deliver the death star plans to him on Alderaan. Her entire message is meant to be on topic to the context of her father's instructions -- with the exception of her brief attempt at emotional plea at the end -- "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope." You could argue that she knew this emotional plea would impact Obi-Wan because of the time they spent together and the connection they gained from their experience. As for Obi-Wan's death, it is true that she is less distraught than Luke was. It is worth noting though that despite the adventure she went on with him, she was only 10 years old when it happened, and it seemed to be only over the course of a week or so. It's been over 9 years since she's even seen him, so I would think her connection wouldn't be quite as strong as Luke, who not only was gaining a close connection to him at that time, but Ben was acting as his caretaker in a sense right after his family had died.

I think the line by General Tagge, in A New Hope, questioning how they'll maintain control without the bureaucracy, when he learns the Senate has been dissolved, supports the idea that Bail was too influential, at this point in time, too take out. I was hoping there would be a lot of suspense, emotional drama, and maybe a lightsaber fight or two. I did not want to see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader fighting. I really liked the idea of their meeting on the Death Star to be their first meeting since Obi-Wan had The high ground. I definitely did not want a story about Obi-Wan and Leia running around the Galaxy together when she was 10. I am enjoying the show, but I would enjoy it much more if I didn't have to stop every few minutes and think to myself "How is that going to work?" When Darth Vader tells Obi-Wan he was expecting him my view was he'd meant it in relation to his sensing him earlier in the film not that he'd been expecting him for years. Vader says he's been waiting for him (Obi-Wan) because he felt a presense/disturbance in the force right after the Millennium Falcon was captured. He even tells Tarkin later that Obi-Wan was alive and on the Death Star and was intending to face him alone. Vader was already at the location that Obi-Wan was heading to. So Vader saying he had been waiting was a short term reference. I just watched the OT over the past week so this is fresh in my mind.

I don't think the part about Leia knowing Obi-Wan is that inconsistent. Yes she is being formal. But also, she is making an important message in a hurry. She knows him well enough to push his buttons. At least this is how i see it. But the other stuff is an inconsistent mess...

According to multiple reliable sources, they literally chose to rewrite the show’s script at least partially because some people, including Filoni and Favreau, were concerned that the storyline was too similar to the Mandalorian with Kenobi protecting Luke from various threats including Maul. What the actual hell is wrong with whoever’s responsible for replacing that with basically the same exact thing, only replace Luke with Leia.

Yeah, there was a suppose to be a different story being told for Kenobi, one that featured Luke like it did in the f**king trailer, but Kathleen couldn't have that and ruined it. I could bypass a little plot hole that could be explained weirdly for the sake of a good story. But unfortunately, the issue is that this is not a good story .. Disney continues to disrespect every Original Trilogy character (Except for Leia, whom they continue to try to give more and more importance and make her flawless). First, Luke and Han both fell into depression and were transformed into beings to feel pity for instead of being the great heroes they used to be. And now Obi-Wan, that not only they made him fall into depression but also made him a coward that doesn't care about others, or injustice, even if it's in front of his face. By the way, also dumb, cause a ten years old girl (that looks like eight years old) has to be giving him lessons every 5 minutes. And all these to make their new characters shine (that, by the way, of course they're all female, thanks Kathleen). I don't care about new characters being women wise and powerful, but I had enough of this corporation destroying my childhood heroes because they want to indoctrinate their political agenda in a so obvious and poor way. Why they can't do things like in Rogue One? That movie was perfect, pretty diverse, with a strong female character in the lead role, the original characters were treated with respect and everything flowed like satin and nothing felt forced. But no, they feel the need of sinking the male heroes, make them weak, to empower their new female characters by contrast. And to crown all this, the action scenes are by moments laughable ... the direction, photography, edition, etc are just awful... It's amazing how with 25 million dollars per episode, you can do a, for moments, so cheap show ... you have to be particularly bad at what you do to make it so wrongly. But I guess that for sure most of the production team is there just because of politics and not because of curriculum and knoledge.

On their own, plotholes can be tolerated. The thing is this show has never, since the beginning, shown any respect whatsoever to Obi Wan Kenobi's character. What he was and is supposed to be. This show would have been a fantastic time to show Obi Wan's Jedi ideals to help everyone in conflict with his mission to protect Luke, as he deals with remorse for Anakin's fall from grace. But of course, it's dISnEy's Lucasfilm we're talking about (or better said, the possessed corpse of a company that was once the proud legacy of Walt Disney, now plunging its decrepit digits into another great man's work to butcher and violate as it pleases). And we should know they won't tolerate a story about an upright knight with a heteropatriarchal code of honor to be told in 2022. So we got The Last Jedi again instead. Only Kenobi's the victim this time around rather than Luke. We shouldn't have been so blind to believe they might have done otherwise, honestly. I remember Professor Geek once mentioned reading the leaked script and warned us about it months ago. I tried to keep an open mind about it for a while, encouraged by the faith expressed in your videos, Thor. But as of the first episode I already imagined what was in store for poor Obi Wan Kenobi.

I honestly wouldn’t mind a “Kenobi is disillusioned” storyline since I think it would totally make sense for his character (unlike Luke). After all the man has been through a ROUGH experience and that’s speaking pretty lightly. If they made the show around him trying to find peace with the major tragedy that occurred, and having that wound taking years to be able to heal, I do believe it could have been fantastic. That isn’t what we got though, it’s a kidnapping story of a character heavily implied to have never met obi-wan. 😒

well, as you said some stuff might come to light in the upcoming episodes. At this point, all I can think of about the reason why in the future Leia doesn't mention their little adventure in that famous message must be in correlation to the other issue of how her parents and herself survived the watchful eyes of the emperor. What I'm trying to say is that as a senator, she's more than aware of the value of information, and worrying that the message might be intercepted by the enemy, she only points out the very public aspects of her relationship with the Jedi. It's worth mentioning that before Order 66, many planets had close relationships with the Jedi, and Leia's parents probably got away with that. and also, just as the Jedi were blind to Darth Sidious's rise, It's only logical that he, drunk in power, would miss some suspicious activities such as how Obi-Wan was notified of Leia's kidnapping.
