The shopkeeper who put together Rachel's outfit for display is so smart. That's a great idea. People got to see exactly what she was wearing and they knew what to look for, instead of imagining something from a vague description. Plus, it's memorable. If I saw a mannequin describing a missing person like that, I would think about it all day. I think something like this should be implemented more often, like on the news.

i think you forgot a very important detail. after the parents called the brothel about rachel, the brothel and the sex workers that worked there also played a big part in the search. they contacted other brothels and sex workers in the area to see if they spotted rachel. in general, sex workers tend to help out a lot in these types of cases. they are very adamant about not wanting underaged girls or people being forced into doing sex work. they also know first hand how shitty the police are because of how they treat cases of sex workers going missing or being murdered. they often have to take matters into their own hands because they know the cops won’t do anything.

Especially for the police to just brush off runaways? Even if it was a teen who just decided to run away, theyre not concerned for their wellbeing? They make it seem like runaways are some inconvenience, it pisses me off cause we have that in the United States, as well.

Its actually more misandrist because they assumed manny was abusive against her with out even knowing him or their relationship and assumed she ran away to get away from him. Either way it was poor conduct on behalf of the police and very negligent.
@serenfee9611
@serenfee9611 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely not! It would be misandrist if the police had shown preferential treatment of her case, because of her gender but instead her disappearance got dismissed, because she was a woman/girl. You’re promoting a false equivalence between misandry and misogyny. Misogyny is far more rooted in society and has been for thousands of years to the point whereas most people are not even able to point it out if it’s in front of us, because even women have internalized and normalized the discrimination and dismissive attitude that we have to deal and live with daily. The reason for this is the patriarchy we live in. Even the pressure for men having to pay at the first date is rooted more so in misogyny than misandry, because of traditional gender roles and the presumption of women not being financially independent. There is not qualified sociologist that would argue that we live in a patriarchal society. So even if misandry exist, it doesn’t really damage men in the long run, because the system we live puts the rights of men above those of women. Women don’t really hold societal power over men unless it comes to the sexual value that (usually) only young and attractive women hold. The only people that really believe in misandry and it’s power are usually men right activists.

It's always too little too late. Then they will try to pin it on anyone just to close the case and muck up the investigation. This guy killed a lot of women and shot couples in the forrest in a very disturbing way and the Police did literally nothing. The Family of this one missing woman organized the search for her and the killer over years and years. Like 10 years or so and the police tried to stop them, they didn't take surviving women of this man serious, they destroyed evidence!!!! After a lot of time the killer could be arrested and the womans body was found, but so much harm could have been prevented if these jerks would have done their fkn job properly. (In the end, the killer commited suicide and left a really weird letter for his family btw). Also when the family could find (with the help of old friends who where detectives when they where younger) the womans body etc the police took all the credit and in interviews told the press how they worked together with this family to solve the crime and how thankful they are for the families help. Ok but you see in a modern society we believe in trying to help people, you can look at the nordic prison model for instance in the US we have a 50% rate of prisoners going back to prison, where I believe they only have like a 10% which means only 10% of offenders will do it again if you have a 100 prisoners and only 10 do the same crime again that means 90 people where able to come back to society that's pretty good. On top of that it would take so much taxpayer money to keep people locked up, if you want to leave it to a private company to do it, you can have prisoners become slaves, i.e we will be going backwards in our progression to a better society. Before you bring up the death penalty remember that 4% of the time the state executes people there are innocent, so if your ok with your taxpayer money going to killing innocent people 4% of time then how are we different from these people? Explain of hardline punishment is the war on drugs and how bad it turned out. Remember the drug war started as trying to fight back against ODs and the fear of kids doing drugs and what happened people got locked up for weed (less dangerous then alcohol) prisons filled with nonviolent drug dealers and ODs skyrocketing...my point is being tough of crime doesn't always work out sometimes it makes the problem worse and creates other problems. My solution is looking at different parts of the world who have low recidivism rates and what they do right

i honestly agree, im against capital punishment BUT for cases where it’s 99%-100% clear the person in question is truly guilty of SA or unprovoked murder(like excusing self defense and all that) then i really think you shouldn’t just get a chance to go back to regular life. especially SA, as a survivor of that myself like you have no choice but to live with that FOREVER, the rest of your life is forever changed because of one persons disgusting choice, why tf does someone who does that get to have a chance at a normal life after ruining someone else’s? “justice” is effing weird….

@@baneyama103 I’m glad to see someone understand properly how it works. I study criminology (currently doing a Masters degree), and it really isn’t just as simple as “if you do X, it’s prison for life”. It depends on many different things, including the probability of recidivism. And as you said, historically, tough on crime has had horrible results. Yes some people should stay in prison forever but let’s say a guy who murdered another in a context of gang rivalry: is that guy really a menace to society in general if he leaves the gang life ? Perhaps not. It might be hard to believe, but rehabilitation can work. It’s supported by research.

Man, the police work in this case was so disappointing. I just can’t understand how they didn’t even bother looking for Rachel and their excuse was that she was a run away. Even if she was a run away, that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have cared for her disappearance because Rachel still could’ve been in danger even if she did leave off her own accord. The way someone goes missing doesn’t deter the fact that they are missing, especially if they’re a minor. I’m glad this case has some closure but it’s frustrating that we didn’t have this closure sooner because the police decided not to do their jobs.

My mum moved only a week before she went missing, she remembers hearing all about her on the news. My mum is a Christian and she spend hours on hours praying for her to be at peace and better than what had happened. She tried to beg my nanna to take her back to Melbourne so they could help look for her. When the news came that she had passed, my mum was so upset about it. My mum still doesn't talk about any of this, I had to ask her since she was 14/15 when this was happening and since she lived there. she told me, "I don't want to talk about it now, but all I want to say is people never deserved her". *TW: topics of child abuse* video idea: i recently watched a documentary on Netflix called "The trials of Gabriel Hernandez". Its about a young boy who was brutally abused by his mother, Pearl Hernandez and Step-Father, isauro Aguirre. I truly believe she is one of the worst mothers in America. They would beat him until he was bruised, wh!p him, sh00t him with bb guns, starve him, and lock him in a cabinet which they called "his room" They would laugh when they did all of these things. They have I believe 3 other children which they disnr do any of this to, and the reason they would beat Gabriel is absurd. They believed him to be gay. He wasn't, but since they thought he was they would punish him for it, and they told the other children if they told anyone about this they would do the same thing to them. I don't want to go too in depth with this case but its really worth watching. hope you see this Hailey live your video and if you decide to make a video on this i can't wait to watch💗, #justiceforgabrielhernandez

In some places, they're called cable cars. San Francisco is famous for them, for example. Los Angeles used to have them, as you can find out in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Great movie, btw

How the hell did she get released early and especially if she's shown no remorse 🤬 It's absolutely disgusting, that for family, their daughters life was on only valued at 14 years 😔

I find it so sick that she literally planned out becoming her. Stealing who she was and killing her. And still got released. Definitely didn’t serve any justice.

Maybe it's just a coincidence but I've noticed with the Australian cases you cover that the justice system isn't very hard on killers? They rarely seem to get life sentences, just 5-15 years which is merely a slap on the wrist for taking not just one life but destroying a family. Most cases I hear of in the US at least give a life sentence a lot of the time! (I'm a Brit, promise I'm not being baised)

This is something my BF comments on a lot. I’m Aussie and he’s from overseas. I never noticed it until he brought it up. Now it’s very frustrating to read about short sentencing for very violent criminals.. especially when they commit a second more violent crime after the first one. A woman near my home town was sexually assaulted and murdered, the guy who did it had a known track record of sexual assault and violent crimes. Very frustrating and scary to think about.

We tend to have very light sentences here unfortunately, and not just for murder.

Hey Hailey, I was hoping you would add captions to your videos in the future! I usually can't watch with the sound too loud because I get chronic migraines so I rely on captions when I'm on KZfaq, but I know it would also help any viewers who may be hearing impaired! Thank you (: love you and your videos
