My partner today was Jimmy Staffey. We hiked to Oby's Double Arch on the western side of Big South Fork. We made our way to Laurel Branch creek then back up to where we were parked. Near the top we found an old 140 year old cemetery, Stephens Hammock. We then drove to the Leatherwood Overlook. I was able to find the Thompkin grave, one of the many tragic events in that area. We then hiked to the Leatherwood overlook.

You have a good eye for them. Those old cemeteries have stories to tell. Most lost through time.

That's a trail I've yet to hike. Awesome arch! I know from the trails on downstream how beautiful Laurel Fork Creek is. Finding the cemetery is nice but the single Thompkins grave is amazing. I wouldn't even know where to start to look for it! The leaves still need a week or more but they're looking nice right now. You and Staffey had a very good day!

U literally can see the car and field from Thompkins grave. The rock is on opposite side of tree so you don’t see it from the trail. Staffey saw a piece of tape. I will show you next time we are nearby.
