Isabela S You know what I think is awesome.. I've been there... Icelandic people are all like this guy... happy, friendly, enjoying what the world has given them... really an amazing place. This guy has such an interesting face... he's able to show the emotion I think the band intended just by singing... this is an incredible video when you consider everything... I would never have known if I didn't go there.. Amazing place, probably the nicest people in the world (been to over 30 countries), and so caring... they totally take care of each other and those that come to visit... it really is an incredible place, and so beautiful!. if you go anywhere in the world.... Go to Iceland, you will never regret it!

The pure emotion, elation, sadness, empathy that simply shine throughout his performance is outstanding. His look at the end tells me everything; he's lived this song as a journey. I am forever grateful for this band to have these sort of videos - sometimes we all just need some empathy. We need to see each other as humans, and understand our struggles, and accept each other. I've known this song for a long time, but it comes now in the darkest time of my life, and I see a stranger in a video from years back and as he looks straight into the camera, I feel seen and understood, and I feel his empathy. He can't help me, but he understands. He tells me it's okay not to be okay. He sees me and forgives me.

I feel the same way. traveling down this road we call "life" alone. In over 47 years, I have not managed to really connect with anyone. No one really knows me or cares. All people I know are merely acquaintances. I know in my heart of hearts, I'll die alone and I made peace with that a long time ago. I travel in the dark searching for light. I keep looking tho, for a friend, a lover, a soulmate I know I'll never find. Beautiful songs like these speak to me deeply... I can understand them. For a moment I feel "not alone", but its a fleeting feeling, because I ultimately have no one to share this moment with. Nights are lonely, with no one to talk to. Be well. There are others who travel the night alone... Maybe the dawn will come, but not for me.

It's not a coincidence that this video is more popular than the "real" music video. There's something so endearing about the realism of this video. That's exactly how it feels like to experience such a powerful song and personally I don't react too differently myself when listening to it.

Mumford and Sons kind of let me down with their new sound, even when I do respect a band changing and adapting to their own pleasing, but I love folkish music. And here comes Of Monsters and Men to the rescue! This is so, so, so wonderful...
@DMIwriter
@DMIwriter 9 жыл бұрын
I was actually kinda glad to hear a different sound with Mumford and Sons. Their sound was TOO niche to the point where all their songs sounded the same. If songs from the third album sound like they could've been on the first album, that's pretty bad in my opinion. It either means the band can't evolve and experiment, or they're too scared that their fans will leave if they try something new. I can't respect bands who only know how to do one thing, and I can't respect bands who are puppets run by the fans. That's why I like bands that have creativity, risk, and a spine. Not to mention the Great Hipster Movement of the early 2010s is coming to an end, which means goodbye banjos. Even though I'm with you, I do love folk music. That's why I keep a large playlist of folk bands ready to go. That being said, their new sound is actually really growing on me.

Devynn Hageman I very much agree with you, honestly! I think I spoke too soon with Mumford and Sons, because while I don't love their new song (and that may yet change), having given it a few more listens just today, I definitely appreciate it. Their songwriting is still exceptional, naturally, but I still prefer Of Monsters and Men. And I'm with you on the folk music, my friend! I just discovered Iron & Wine (who I highly suggest if you've not heard them: songs like Boy with a Coin, House by the Sea, or The Trapeze Singer, one of my new favorites of all time) from all the new folk ones to the classics. I'll miss the hipster movement though, even if it produced some generic stuff, there's always the exceptional stuff too.

Cody Lakin couldn't agree more mate. I've just listened to Believe yesterday and I kinda disappointed because they've incorporated to many synthetic instruments in it. And yes, Of Monsters and Men save the day! (Though I'm still hoping the rest Wilder Mind's album will stay in line with their basic root, which is traditional folk music).

This songs means so much to me and has gotten me through some very rough times lately. Everytime I feel down and hopeless I listen to it. The old man and the song together literally makes me sob. From everything I've been going through and just realizing that everyone goes through hard times. As crazy as we all are, humanity is beautiful. And this man, and his soul, and this song are beautiful.

Lost in skies of powdered gold Caught in clouds of silver ropes Showered by the empty hopes As I tumble down, falling fast to the ground I know I'll wither so peel away the bark 'Cause nothing grows when it is dark In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear I see it all so clear Woah Cover your crystal eyes And feel the tones that tremble down your spine Woah Cover your crystal eyes And let your colours bleed and blend with mine Making waves in pitch black sand Feel the salt dance on my hands Raw and charcoal coloured thighs Feel so cold and my skin feels so paper-thin I know I'll wither so peel away the bark 'Cause nothing grows when it is dark In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear I see it all so clear Woah Cover your crystal eyes And feel the tones that tremble down your spine Woah Cover your crystal eyes And let your colours bleed and blend with mine But I'm okay in see-through skin I forgive what is within 'Cause I'm in this house I'm in this home All my time Woah Cover your crystal eyes And feel the tones that tremble down your spine Woah Cover your crystal eyes And let your colours bleed and blend

Thank you for staying true to yourself Of Monsters and Men. The new singles by some of my other favorite bands - Florence and Mumford and Sons - have completely changed their style to something they believe to be more appealing to the public, which I find disheartening since they were such great bands before this. Keep staying true to your soul and your fans, including myself, will gladly stand by you.

I wouldn't know anything about Mumford and Sons, but I am defending Florence. They change their style per album. Their first album was pretty much just them. They had their slow songs, their anthems, and "Girl With One Eye," which was hugely guitar-themed, like "What Kind of Man." Then they released their second album, which hugely expanded their sound, adding an orchestra and organ to their arsenal. I personally see "What Kind of Man" as coming back to their roots and experimenting with trumpets. Just more expansion. OMAM is still fantastic though.

Jacob Lonon I agree with Florence + the Machine. It's still them, they're following the same vein as before but just branching off a bit. If they went into electronic music then maybe I'd worry they'd "sold out", but as it stands I love their new song.

I love OMAM but this is their second album, so they can stay faithful to their styles without boring people, while Mumford and Sons are a bit older and want to try new things. I think we can understand that and appreciate both :)

I'm completely fine with artists changing their sound but doing something different doesn't automatically make it good. I'm not a huge fan of M&S new song but I'm not writing off the entire album based on. Hopefully there will be some good ones. But I'm also completely fine with artists not changing their sound if A) they don't feel like they need to & B) they're still making great songs. I love this song. It's so triumphant and uplifting. I'm saying this to say that I don't think most people are upset *just* because M&S changed their sound but that the new sound isn't very good from what we've heard.

No I think OMAM sticks with their origins, what makes their music theirs and not someone else's while also making each and every song different. There are songs like Little Talks, with an upbeat melody and haunting lyrics, Yellow Light, which is slow song with lyrics that cause goose bumps, King and Lionheart as well as their cover of Skeletons (as well as Crystals) which make me feel like climbing to the top of a mountain and then jumping off and flying off into the clouds or running through a forest of evergreens or a field of frosted grain. They are all wonderful, amazing songs that sink right into your soul and stay there.

You are not alone. I can relate. there have been times where I have heard similar songs, much like this one, that evoke feelings that are indescribable.Of course, there there are songs from all over the world that evoke these kinds of feelings in everyone. I have been through a lot in life, recently the years have not been exactly kind, but songs like this tend to raise my spirits and remind me there’s always hope. I’ll end this here before I end up rambling and taking up several pages.

Im little late to this I guess but I love this song. A lot of time in my life I have self doubt, inner darkness and lack of love for myself. I’ve worried about hurting those I care for and love. This song rejects the idea of loving someone except for their flaws and instead embracing all of one’s self and the ones they care for. This song brings tears to my eyes because of a this profound and beautiful understanding of love and acceptance. Simply opening one’s eyes and letting people in…

Someone mentioned this song was about the soul, and that does make some sense. However, I like to think that instead it's about one's past, their demons, their regrets, and dreams that never were. The wolves. The empowering notion that you can move forward despite these wolves, as long as you're moving forward...your past has no teeth

The first half of the song is the fear of life, deepening with the anxieties of finances, work, death, etc. With mental illness you fear for yourself and your loved ones- you’re trapped in the darkness of your mind and there is seemingly no growth in the dark. How could you love as part of you so dark and despairing? The last half is realizing there is growth (crystals grow in the dark). Yes there are anxieties but it’s important for us to love and forgive that part of our self. The last half is sung with acceptance and love for oneself. And it’s important to be happy with ourselves and be able to be vulnerable with one another.

***** of course animals have emotions too...what kind of bs is this.. I think you should find some animal/wildlife documentaries and watch.. Preferably those from Sir Attenborough.. He explains things in such a way that everyone should understand... And yes for some, animals are far superior to human beings.. They dont judge, they take people just the way they are..

This man dances like a more realistic muppet and I absolutely love it. The pure expression that exudes from his motion and his face is just so captivating you feel like you could be best friends like you can trust him. amazing song and video

Nanna has an undertone in her vocals which can only be felt and not distinctive for everyone......And Reggi just complement her beautifully with his own unique talent which itself is quite extraordinary. That's why at the present times OMAM is one of my favorite band. Everytime I hear them they inspire me. The other band members should also be acknowledged in equal terms. They may sound similar but with subtle difference which takes lot of intelligence and genius.

This has to be my favorite of their songs. The first song of theirs I heard was Little Talks, and I REALLY liked that one. Then I heard King And Lionheart, and loved that one too. But this one just gives out such a nice vibe.
