Funny how he mentions loss of time and profit but zero mention of derailment and loss of lives and the environment.

I can not believe that Trains Magazine bought into this bogus explanation.

why the wheels are not cylinderical non rigid axle in this case they dont have to be conical like the rear wheels in long vehicles and trucks

Rather than reinventing the wheel, why not just enforce stricter guidelines and maintaining the wheels of the existing infrastructure? How come all of these tests use only a single axial, when every railway car uses a tandem axial? Will these cone shapes last any longer than what is in service now? My guess is no.

Harry Lanza The cone shape is already in use, and has been for quite some time. It's just not as pronounced in the real world. Too steep of a cone will cause a wheel set to "hunt". Cylindrical wheel treads are also used (the BART system, for example, but those are much noisier on curves, as they rely only on the flange for guidance in curves.

weekendrailroader exactly, the wheels are already tapered, it’s just exaggerated in their demonstration to show the viewer.

Vone wheel exist in trains since ever.. a 2 part axle would not hold tons of cargo
