in this video I build a small off grid cabin in the woods. I try to keep it a cheep and simple project yet make it as nice as possible . I finish the cabin off with some nice wood working, beautiful tongue and groove pine cut from logs I had . install the perfect little wood stove , and even use some live edge for trim .top it all off with a breakfast cooked on the wood stove makes this a very relaxing a satisfying video

@@blackspruce1861 I just thought you were so clever in the problem solving. Raising the wall alone. Moving the stove from A to B and B to C. The split concrete pavers (I think) under the stove. Dad built custom cabinets, countertops, trim, and doors for 52 years. Some of my earliest memories were hanging out with him in the cabinet shop. In 2017 we turned a 40’ shipping container into a guest cabin. Outside looks unchanged besides the windows and door. Inside is completely rustic look. He passed last year, and I find myself wanting to build another cabin. I don’t need one, and rarely use the one we built. It’s nice to watch your builds until I find a logical reason to build a new one!

Great job my friend! Tho I'm a musician by trade, I always loved working with wood. In my early 50's I built a studio and a shop mostly by myself and then when I retired to the Mts of NC I built a smaller version by my house at age 74. Tho smaller, it still took a year because I had slowed down a bit lol! But I love building and the reflection time it affords. I think a lot of us who are creative are loners to some extent. I like that you sound like Dave. This makes me happy. You seem to share some of the same philosophies as well. This seems like a lot of fun to do, and perhaps I will one day... Nice job on the cabin!

You and your brother sound a lot alike, I enjoyed his cabin build from start to finish. Keep up the good work, I really like the idea of using a ledger instead of running a bunch of joist hangers. Seems faster and with a cabin that small im sure its plenty strong with 4 16d nails where each 6x6 post is located.

To heave something much bigger than you can lift, use two strong ratchet straps. I used two (or more, really, braced from several directions) to raise a 20’ cedar log up to the air for a cabin. I also used them to drag the log about fifty feet from its resting place to the build site, rolling it on top of logs. You cinch the strap, then sit on it, and it drags the log with butt-weight- haha To raise the log-brace the base well (straps, rocks, etc) You tighten and cinch strap A from a good height Tighten strap B (from the same height) and cinch it, relieving pressure on strap A, Release strap A, and cinch it, relieving pressure on strap B Walk the log up the angle, the more straps you use, the better. And so on. Works pretty well in a pinch when you’re a weak-armed skirt in the woods along☀️ Best!

That would work for sure ! and I had straps but not enough at the time to reach a sturdy tree that would have been in the right direction for a lifting point
