Graham - I appreciate the effort you put into talking to us throughout the whole project. Not only for the technical aspect, but the ambition, the highs and lows, and goals you see in the end. So often we see silent videos and we are just bystanders. But not on Woodness Goodness - we are all right there with you and getting the feels along the way! Thank you sir!

I firmly believe that you may have to redo that side of the roof again. Due to the fact that you have now created several holes in the roof protection by not pulling the nails all the way out and placing your pieces where the existing nail placements were. The old nails will now lead the water through the cover and into the board material underneath. It will cause rot and mold growth when it gets a little warmer. If you want to avoid it in the future, you should redo it completely. The moisture barrier is simply no longer waterproof.

Nothing like a power breakfast to set the tone. You’re young still, enjoy it. I did the same thing at your age. Trust me, you’ll transition out of that by the time you’re my age, 60. I watch a ton of cabin building videos and you are far and away the most entertaining. Love your energy and the vibe you put across is infectious. You’re a very cool dude. Thanks for the video.

Holy Woodness Imsomotivatedbyyouness baby!!!! I am so motivated by you big G but I have to admit I’ve been watching this video in bed while drinking my second cup of coffee lol. Now that the roof is sealed up it will help so much with keeping things dry. It is amazing how much you get done by yourself brother. If you keep eating Taco Bell for breakfast you have to make another dookie 💩 den due to blowing up the one you have now. 😂 Everything looks amazing and keep getting after it brother.

Great work on the roof today. Even small steps show big progress. Fixing the strapping on the other side will pay dividends and you knew that so thats why you did it. Apart from wheel chains perhaps some type of free floating power winch could help? Something you can attach to a tree and your tractor that'll get you up anything too slippery? Can't wait for your next visit.

Gram or Graham? One of these days we're going to have to figure out something with the trail. We can camouflage it at the bottom. I use to go mountain climbing, so I have some trail building suggestions. One thing that you might do is take your camera with you and your wife some weekend and do a dayhike on the Appalachian trail. Note areas that you see where they have beefed up the steeper and wetter sections. Take plenty of photos of those areas. Study them and then incorporate the improvements into your trail. Just a suggestion. I love the progress that you are making. Take care. Vaughn

When someone from another part of the country or in the near future runs the numbers, they could adjust for fluctuations in the materials. 0:10 Looking at how nice the large overhanging roof is on this window wall side of the cabin, it would look even stronger and be more effective as a canopy if you could extend the overhang farther out somehow. Take look, mabybe extend the side walls a few feet and add two heavy 4x4 16 foot posts to carry the load. A heavy ridge beam, two or three sets of timber frame rafters and you could also extend the ridge beam and two wall beams out 18 and 12 inches respectively beyond the roofline for a stronger architectural statement. Larch would be my choice for the timbers here as well as for the balcony posts and railings. Could be done later? But keep this possible idea in mind when you set the location of your balcony foundation posts. ❤ Cheers 🇨🇦

I am designing my roof strapping now and was planning on doing something like what you did with blocks under the horizontal straps. The main reason I am doing it that way is because i'm in a similar situation, building away from home and trying to knock out some stuff in between trips to the property. I plan on attaching the blocks to the straps ahead of time so I have preassembled pieces I can attach all at once.

A friend of mine's father has land and a cabin and he purposely left it without, water, electricity, or in indoor toilet to keep it female free for the most part for 40 years. Put a trailer and all that other stuff out there and now he can't keep a weekend to himself without friends and family tagging along... Definitely something to keeping a fortress of solitude simple.
