Dig the holes to a deep enough layer to pour a small pad, then use the cinder block deck bases on top of that?

G: why not just use those landscape blocks that have a 4x4 “slot” in the top for deck post bases. Seems easier than pouring concrete since you shouldn’t need to worry much about uplift forces on a deck. I dunno - maybe wind could still catch it

I'm an ironworker. Have been for 24 years. I've worked at crazy heights. We yell "headache" when we drop a tool. Idea is no one is gonna look up when they hear Head ache, but will look up when they hear heads up. Luckily it's just you. Sucks when you drop a tool. Be safe. Nice progress. Love it.

Should you ever opt to go through all this again, get a rock climbing style harness next time with a D ring on the front so you can use your rope for positioning. Also you can get a bungie cord tool lanyard for your driver so you can't drop it.
