The Husqvarna Norden 901 was the first adventure bike i've tried with acceptable offroad electronics (of course there are more, but I didn't try them properly).
In this video I explain how the electronics work, what does the offroad mode do, and what to expect from the traction control and the abs.
I hope you enjoy and learn something =)

You do great videos in perfect English. Yet there's one single thing that bugs me - why aren't you pronouncing later H at the beginning of words? Ome, ave, uskvarna, oliday etc. I lived in Portugal for some time and I never noticed it so I doubt it's specific to Portuguese speakers (unlike the French).

Nicely done review ...as always ! I am torn between KTM 890 Adventure R and NORDEN 901 . Could you be so kind and give me so answers on questions below , please ? Did you had a chance to test KTM 890 Adv R ? I have found a body position on this bike a bit strange to me . Foot pegs are moved back to much , almost like on the sport motorbike feeling , and the handlebar is to low . I am average height man 176cm , and feel a bit cramped like sitting on much smaller bike . Do you have similar feeling when sitting on the NORDEN 901 ? Is the body position more comfortable on the Norden 901 vs KTM 890 Adv R ( are foot pegs move forward vs KTM ) ? Do you feel on your legs excessive heat coming from catalytic converter ? During testing KTM 890 ADV R whenever I stopped I was feeling like I am sitting on the grill ! The heat was really noticeable. Is the 43mm APEX suspension good enough for off-roading , or would you rather upgrade to 48mm WP Explor from KTM ? Regards Lukas-UK
@OFFroadOFFcourse
@OFFroadOFFcourse 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Lukas! Before this video I did a "full" norden 901 review, did you see that one? Maybe some of the things I said will answer your questions. Unfortunately I didnt try the 890R, so I dont know about the ergonomics being different. However, since you are "average", with 176cm, I dont see a reason for any of this bikes to feel uncofrtable. Youi can adjust the handlebar in many ways to make it suit your needs. You also need to get used to it.. i dont know what bike you rode before, but usually KTMs/Husqs are very good in terms or ergonomics, so most times its better to trust the bike and learn to use it in the position the bike wants :D As for the suspensions,..well,, I found the 43s very good...sufficient...pleasant...capable of doing what is reasonable to do on a bike this big (watch my review :D). Of course the 48s with more travel would be even better, but I didnt feel limited by the 43...the bike is a joy to ride. Personally, If I was going to buy one of them, I would go fot the 890R, simply because I dont like complicated things, and the extra plastics on the norden feel unecessary (i dont care about looks xD). Also, I wouldnt say no to a better suspension. I cant help you any further I think, sorry :D

@lukmxtr9604 2 жыл бұрын
@@OFFroadOFFcourse Thanks for response ;) I just checked your ''full'' Norden 901 review where indeed some of my questions was answered . The only thing you didn't mentioned is anything about the heat coming from catalytic converter ( noticeable by me ). When I was riding all was fine , but when I stopped on the traffic light I could feel clearly a lot of heat . When it comes to body position I know that there is no problem at all rising up or moving forward/backward the handlebar , but to move foot pegs a bit forward ...it won't be so easy . I know I could get used to the foot pegs position designed by manufacturer but...its just a shame that KTM 890 Adventure R is not so comfortable in seating position like for example Tenere 700 or Tuareg 660 I tested the same day . For off road riding in standing position KTM 890 ADV R is outstanding ! It gives me confidence almost like my KTM 350 EXCF ! But form adventure bike I would expect a bit more comfort in seating position when I ride on road . I read somewhere that body position on the Norden 901 is slightly better than on the KTM 890 ADV ...I have to find this out . I am not sure but I heard too that in Australia Norden 901 is available with 48mm WP Explor suspension . That's interesting ;)

Don’t understand why it doesn’t have hazard lights (The same for the sister 890). When I take my bike for work, I’ve stop in some tricky places and I want people to clearly see me. So I use the hazard lights a lot. It’s stupid, but it’s a deal breaker for me 😶

@@OFFroadOFFcourse I’m aware of that, I’ve even tracked some forums where people did that. I just can’t understand why they didn’t add it from factory. Hey Jakub, thanks for wanting my opinion! I have enver tried the Tiger Pro so I can't really say anything smart... however, once I tried thisnew KTM/Husqvarna design I don't think I can go back to a "standart" motorcycle. But you know...life has ways to surprise us and to keep teaching us new stuff :P The Rally Pro appears to have a bigger suspension though, and also a few Kg more...thats something to have in mind....
@MathiasKarlssonErik
@MathiasKarlssonErik 2 жыл бұрын
Damn, you really start to make me question my decision ... This spring I was going forth and back between the Tiger 900 and Norden 901 ... no Ténéré since not cruise control ... On paper they are similar bikes .. the Tiger offers a bit more comfort and and convenience ... the Norden more capability and performance I was lucky to have the Norden for a 2 day advanced enduro training + it balances to a stand still ... very much like a R 1250 GS + ... and if dropped it is not too hard to lift up ... easier than most + great seat design ... not hindering movement ... considerably low ... even for compact riders ... yet very comfortable .. unlike the KTM 890 + the engine is very lively and puts a huge grin on your face + electronics assistance (Offroad/ABS off) ... I never noticed any unwanted interference ... ~ needs much more clutch/throttle/break control ... doable ... but way more demanding than a GS, which just tractors along in idle ~ standing position is quite "active" and less relaxed ... good for active riding .. but far more exhausting than the GS - but the wind noise at 50+ km/h was horrible without earplugs .. even with a spoiler ... no bueno ... needs an option better on road wind protection ... offroad was no problem ;) - the quickshifter was not good compared to the Tiger ... also going 1 > 2 dropped regularly to N ... not good when you are offroad and you have to check gear because you cannot trust it ... no bueno ... also happened to others on KTM ADV 890 ... apparently a known issue ... KTM/Husky response "really make sure that it is in" ... yeah works ... but why is this even needed ... - some stuff breaks quite easily ... rear indicators broken .. tank bash plate easily ripped, looks better than it protects ... etc. ... the park therefore might remove them again .. - some stuff feels quite cheap, flimsy or unpolished ... especially at this price point ... weak kickstand with small foot ... buttons, Tiger/GS buttons feel much better ... a few dedicated buttons for often used functions like heating, modes, etc. I find better than digging ... and let's not talk about the (navigation) app ... why is BMW the only one to get that right ... I really hope that some improvements become available down the road .. Because I ended up with the Tiger 1200 Rally ... very nice bike ... *heavy sigh of weight and near instant regret after the first drop 1h after i picked it up from the dealer* ... but so much harder offroad than the Norden/KTM or even the GS ... especially for vertically challenged riders ... but that is a whole other story

I'm this close to buying this bike, but my test rides revealed two issues i wanted to hear your take on. Both are about dynamic street riding. 1. I'm 193cm tall and air turbulence on helmet starts at 70kmph and gets unbearable long term at 90kmph. Does that deflector solve the issue? To what extent? 2. Upshifts with quickshifter on the test bike (250km odo) ended up in false neutrals at least 10% of time. You just can't rely on its reliability in the twisties. Have you observed such issue in the units you've been riding? Q
@OFFroadOFFcourse
@OFFroadOFFcourse 2 жыл бұрын
have you seen my previous video? it was a review on the bike, and I have mentioned both things you want to know. The spoiler improves the aerodynamics quite a lot, but since you are 1.93, maybe you wont be as sucessful as I was. Still, I feel that further improvement could be achieved with lateral "wings/spoilers". After we placed the top spoiler all the buffeting I feel is coming from the sides. As for the false-neutrals, I used to feel it only in high gears, and it happened both with the easy-sift ON or OFF. Now it doesnt happen anymore (certainly not that often) because I learned to be careful about it... I just shift gears with a bit more "conviction" :P I dont have any more info or suggestions on this matter :D

I have no problems with my Norden. I do not remember the excact number but in the manual you find a adviced RPM to use the quickshifter. If you are at this RPM+ then it shifts with no issue. The wind baffle is caused by the horrendous mirrors. If you buy aftermarket mirrors then the wind baffling dissapears

The rear brake is very important when stopping. Try going down a rocky and rutted hill expecting to have both rear and front brakes, but - surprise - you only have the front brake. Now tell me again how the rear brake is useless.
@OFFroadOFFcourse
@OFFroadOFFcourse Жыл бұрын
Hey Orlando, thanks for watching the video! The rear brake is very useful to help you maneuver the bike in many situations, something i demonstrate a bunch of times during skidding maneuvers and whatnot...its also an important part of an emergency braking (about 20%). What i meant to say it that when used alone in an attemp to stop the bike, its ALMOST useless (and then i practically demonstrate what i meant... The bike eventually stops after 30meters...so yeah, i guess technically you cant say that that is being useless...) In the situation you describe (going down a slippery hill) its precisely the situation why i hate the ABS. Cause on a normal off road trail i can actually live with the ABS on and kinda adapt to it, but going down slippery hills unable to use the rear wheel/brake as a rudder gets really really dangerous. Anyway, you are right, but you interpreted me wrong. I have been riding offroad for 20 years, i have instructed close to 200 people by now and i am not an idiot xD
