Rubber Soul was released at the end of 1965, and although the Beatles were already in their own class, it is the album where they started to occupy the stratosphere ... you could spend the next week or so listening to all the songs on that album and have a lot of fun... try "Michelle" next.... Scandinavian furniture was very big in the mid 60's (Norwegian wood), and at the end of the song, he warms himself by throwing her furniture in the fireplace... very sly humour at work here

@@Hessulo I’ve been smoking pot for as long as Snoop Dog. Never once heard weed referred to as Norwegian wood. Maybe listen to the ambiguity of the song again and you’ll get it

Thanks for playing one of my suggestions, I love this song cause Lennon really knew how to tell a story, especially his solo stuff, although alot of his lyrics were word play, this song and "Girl" were classics to me , plus George Harrison playing the Sitar ,thanks again Cynthia, really love this album!

Norwegian Wood and many other songs on the Rubber Soul album (released Dec 3 1965) touched on more mature themes than their previous albums. Amazingly, the band had to write and record 15 new songs (not including 'Wait') after their 1965 world tour ended in late August. In roughly 11 weeks they did just that. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys was so knocked out by Rubber Soul he set out to beat the Beatles at their own game. The result was Pet Sounds. Considered by many to be one of the top 2 or 3 greatest albums of all time. Double dipping on the Beatles Cynthia is never a bad thing!! Cheers, RNB

according to the Beatles, Norwegian wood used in England was a type of wall paneling, So after he was expecting to have a one night stand with the girl he met, woke up alone after sleeping in the bath tub all night and out of anger he burned Norwegian wood which was her house or flat.

@@Hessulo When interviewed about it Paul McCartney said "In our world the guy had to have some sort of revenge. It could have meant I lit a fire to keep myself warm, and wasn't the decor of her house wonderful? But it didn't, it meant I burned the f___ing place down as an act of revenge, and then we left it there and went into the instrumental."

Hi my dear Cynthia ! Sorry for the late reply, but I came back yesterday night after a concert and haven't had the time to respond to your reaction video, which is - as always - very nice. And it's the first time ever that I see you listening to the same song TWICE in ONE reaction video. The text definitely leaves open space for thoughts and interpretations going in a somewhat "naughty" direction. That's what I like about this song the most. And you seemed to have enjoyed it very much with your facial expressions and grinning after the second listening telling more than a thousand words. ;-) Here's to your next one ! Hugs and kisses from your friend Gerry

I always thought it was the bed he burned, not the paneling, sounds more romantic than burning the house or apt down🙄

John wanted to write about an affair he had, but keep it from his wife too. The real question is: did he burn down the girlfriend's apartment the next morning? Paul says he suggested to John that a good ending would be a bit of pyromania. Lennon had a pretty twisted sense of humour.

You gotta laugh - John Lennon tells a story of how she wouldn't sleep with him so he burns the house down. And the song's a hit. Just a slight over-reaction ... 🙂

A one night stand gone wrong, she invites him into her bedroom and says he can sit anywhere. He notices there are no chairs so he has to sit on her bed. He suspects she is a little too forward. They drink wine, it gets late and she is ready to make love. He choses instead to sleep in her bathtub. She goes off to work the next morning. He awakens alone and lights a fire, presumably as one might after a cold night.

It's a joke. John went back to a girl's house expecting sex, he didn't get it so he burnt the house down in the morning. It's John's sense of humor.

This is loosely built around an actual affair that John had and was trying to exorcise this by sort of confessing.
