I wanted the 45 of this song when it came out, I think I was 11, and my great-grandfather...who was 78 at the time...went and bought it for me. Anytime I hear it, I smile.❤❤❤

#1 song of the entire 80s! I believe this was the first music video to actually have a narrative, and not just have the artist performing their song. She made the entire Physical album as a video package, and won the first Grammy for Best Video. It was her idea to focus the video on exercise to deflect from what was at the time, a very racy song that was banned in Utah for its suggestiveness. Dame ONJ was, is, and always will be a Goddess (one of her nicknames), and we can all learn from her example of living a life of kindness, positivity, and a dedication to protecting the planet. She is a tireless humanitarian who has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in the past 25+ years for breast cancer awareness and research, and in her own words is a three time cancer "thriver". She is just amazing!

Seems ridiculous with what was to come, but when this was released in 1981 just as more elaborate music videos were starting to take off-the year MTV launched it caused a lot of ruffled feathers due to her being in the shower, the male flesh on display & the homoerotic imagery, along with the lyrics & decency groups trying to get it banned. Watching it as a five year old I found it hilarious.

Olivia Newton John was probably my first celebrity crush. This was her biggest hit, but it's not one of my favorites of hers. I could name a dozen songs by her I think are great. Her first hit in 1971 was a cover of the Bob Dylan song "If Not for you". Among my favorites are, "Let me be there", "If you Love me (Let me Know)", "Hopelessly Devoted", and "Magic".

Okay. This music video came out in the very, very early days of MTV. In some quarters, this song was banned on the radio and the video one would figure could only be shown after the family hours (e.g., after 10 pm) so children wouldn't catch it.

Piece of trivia: Tina Turner was originally offered this song, but, she turned it down. Didn't feel right to her, she said in her book. Would've been a comeback hit for Tina, but, Olivia was the right choice in the end.

Here's another piece of Trivia. After her 1980 Special that Tina guest starred on. Olivia Introduced Tina to her then Manager Roger Davies and within Five Years Tina made the biggest Comeback in Pop Music next to Marvin Gaye. When Have You Never Been Mellow was Number One Olivia Hosted The Midnight Special and Ike & Tina Turner were on and it would be the Last TV performance she did with Ike. Olivia is in her on way an Honorary Soul Sister. She sang with The Reverend James Cleveland and The California Choir, Take 6 on a Xmas Special with Diahann Carroll when George Bush Sr was President, she Co-Hosted the very First American Music Awards with Aretha Franklin & Glen Campbell in the early 1970's, she Danced with a Soul Brother on her 4th & Last TV Special for ABC, she rubbed Shoulders with Michael Jackson (RIP) and Jennifer Holliday when they did the West Coast Premiere of Dreamgirls.

@@Junior-cp9se The book I'm referring to is "Tina Turner: My Love Story", a book published by Simon & Schuster (New York headquarters). Again, as I said in my original comment, Tina was offered "Physical" and she turned it down, because she feel that song didn't suit her. Yes, of course, Olivia heard the song and loved it and...well, the rest is history. Whether Rod Stewart was offered that song or not, Tina doesn't mention it. Maybe, Rod will say so in HIS memoir or autobiography, if there is one or it hasn't been published yet! Anyway, Brian, thanks for making me laugh and good luck with that social distancing.

Well as several people mentioned this was not strictly about working out at the gym. Yes the song repeatedly mentions letting your body talk and there is the one lyric about talking horizontally. Reminds me of a conversation I overheard at a party one time. Guy: Say babe let's just do the "Y" dance. Girl: What's the "Y" dance? Guy: Why dance when we can F***!!
