Oil change on a Honda GCV 160 small engine

Showing how to change the oil on the Honda GCV 160 small engine.
To get the oil of of the motor without spilling, you can also tilt the motor sideways first and then remove the dipstick.
I am using 10W-30 motor oil. Remember to check the oil level before starting up the engine. Make sure not to overfill and not to under fell.

The bolt, low and to the right of the dipstick, is the oil drain. No need to tip the machine on it's side..... that is why there is a hole in the deck of the pressure washer right under the oil drain.

You Simpleton , there isn't a drain plug on this model.

@@ezrollin561 We can clearly see that there is one at the 2:27 mark right above the opening in the frame that is there so you can drain the oil without tipping it!

Why didn’t you use the drain plug which the frame is cut out to allow the oil to drain?

I have a similar model of power washer. It does not have a drain plug. There is a hole at the level of the deck but, it's not a drain. There is no plug in it. Instead, it's necessary to tip the unit over to drain the oil. I have a Toro law mower with the same feature. There is no drain plug. The used oil is removed through the fill-tube.

To prevent oil spilling on mower deck and floor as you tilt the mower, leave the dipstick screwed in until you have the mower completely tipped up on its side. Then loosen the dipstick until the big notches in the threads of the dipstick are exposed, allowing the oil to drain out. Do not completely remove dipstick.Just enough to allow the oil to drain. When drained, re tighten dipstick before righting mower. Again, this prevents oil dripping on floor and mower deck. Remove dipstick, wipe clean and re fill engine with oil.

around the 3:30 min mark of the video, the dipstick measurement reading is confusing because the filler neck is at angle so when one takes measurements the top side of the dipstick registers (almost 30+% more along the scale) oil reaching at a level that is considerably different than at the UNDERSIDE of the dipstick. The question then becomes, which reading to you take into account? The easy answer is offcourse the higher one but one may just check the underside of the dipstick and call it good. Then, as all engine manuals suggest, never overfill (which can break seals and damage the engine).

Andreti Giovaneti You use a straight 30 weight down there or maybe even a 20w50. I’m not telling you to do that . But I would search into it. 30w is definitely ok.

At least for the variant for my power washer there is no drain plug on the bottom.

MegaSafetyFirst Thanks! I thought maybe the threads were stripped because I can see the drain plug bolt in your video. See the hole in your washer’s deck? The bolt is right above it. You should have one on either side. Thanks for making the video!!

Mine has a cast hole to the right of the dipstick, just like the one I see in your video. No plug in it. I suppose I could drill, tap, and plug it, but why? I did it just like you did. Lol

Dont pull the string and u wont accidentally start the engine. Doesnt take a rocket scientist to know you dont try starting the engine in the .iddle of changing the oil. Lmao 🤣 idk bout some of u ppl

Still a good idea to remove spark lead (if there is no "off" switch) if you get called away in the middle of the job, or otherwise get distracted.
