Thank you for putting this together. Whether you use this tool or not, it's always nice when folks take the time to share their knowledge and experience. That being said, I personally build LT engines daily as a profession. I have never personally used one of these tools and have never had an issue with pressure issues on any engines that have let the shop. They make sense if you are working on an engine with pump installed already from factory. However, if you start from a bare block, you have no points of reference for your alignment tool, so they become obsolete in a way. Either way, nice vid and thanks.

Variable vein oil pump so alignment not as crucial. Also per gm, all that's needed to correctly align the pump is to make sure all bolt inserts are present and that pump is torqued down with it being pushed upward. Used this method on quite a few already and haven't had any low oil pressure issues.

Good to know! That's the method I used the first time and I also had no issues.

Did you prime the oil pump after installation?

What if you did a complete overhaul with a new oil pump. How would you go about aligning it?

fyi engine supply shop sells one that works without any mods for $60. Little more money but if you don't feel like grinding this is a great option

If you loosely install the pump and rotate the engine by hand as you snug up the bolts it will align itself.

Choose OEM , it takes away all the guess work and decreases the failure rate of first time engine build DIY ers and if the engine does fail for whatever reason...you wont have to wonder if it was because of that aftermarket alignment tool used.

So, What about someone (me) removed the pump for a cam swap without marking where it was?

So I have a 2015 5.3 that I did the afm delete. It has slightly low oil pressure at idle when hot. Any suggestions?
@TheSundaeDrive

lower than pre-delete? or just lower in general

The oil pump is controlled by the ecm so could ask your tuner if it's possible for him to change the setting for the relief valve. On the LS you just pull the plug for it and put a couple number 5 washers on the spring...

Soon I hope. I was all set to do it and the shop I was using shut down :( so it's on the back burner for a little bit. I'm researching dual narrow and widebands so I can replace the front o2 sensors. Trying to do pre-cat to get the most accurate readings without welding in new bungs. I actually have a Dyno I can access but it requires specialized mounts which are 3K so trying to decide if it is a justifiable business expense lol

grinding aluminum with a abrasive grinding wheel is very dangerous. it fills the grinding wheel with aluminum wich expands as it gets hot and cuases the grinding wheel to crack and explode. you should be sanding it or cutting it with like a band saw or hack saw.

Had no idea. Learn something new every day! Band saw would be better for sure but don't have one at the time.
