I was seriously just thinking I wanted to see a tutorial on scrapping ceiling fans last week, and found you. Thanks for sharing thins! I'm sick over how many I've thrown out over the years in construction. I didn't have the know how, or forge then, to be saving copper or scrapping. I feel wasteful. I look forward to giving this a try. Great video

I worked in a Vacuum Cleaner Repair shop for more than 6 years. Some of the screws were hard to get to just like you were experiencing @1:54. What we did to get around this problem was cut an old long bladed Phillips Screw Driver off using a grinder and cut-off wheel. Cut it off close to the handle, then use it in the drill. This eliminated the problem of the Drill Chuck getting in the way when using those short Phillips Bits... Also....Thanks for that Copper Sulfate tip. I never knew this.

good video, i just started scrapping for a little xtra money. it's obviously a hobby until you learn your metals and figure out how to get your hands on this stuff, but very informative, especially showing how to test for die cast and aluminum cast, how you separate things. and love the way you think out loud when working, entertaining and informative.

I get the itch to do a tear down every time I watch your videos. . . . who knows, maybe someday.

Where I used to live, the scrap yard paid me more for zinc diecast than they did for cast aluminum. But where I am now the yard here mixes it all together and calls it all aluminum. And yes sheet is down to $100 per ton. And 8 weeks ago it was $220 per ton.

I do it pal. I'm 58 and disabled due to spine problems and other medical issues. Diabetic as well. I started just doing copper tubing with my pop when I was 3 years old.

That trick with the Zep is by far my most.popular video! Wish I had more tricks like that up my sleeve! 😜 At my yard, die cast is less than cast aluminum, but I have heard some yards call it zinc and pay more.

I'm in my early fifties; a 77 year old friend likes cruising around when I go shopping! Many times he is surprised with the things I find. Also, I have stripped many ceiling fans. I usually leave the copper and steel together until I get a wack of them to strip.

Some of the more expensive ceiling fans, have brass arms on the blades.

This upload has been showing up on recommended for Christ knows how long. If i had .5c for every time that it has then I'd have $ 7.25 sort of thing. I was doing some Okie videos, so now its done. I'm doing micro-scrapping of my own. Cutting up salmon tins and inserting the pieces into container deposit steel cans. Getting nothing extra for weight, but putting paid to other peoples' mess. When the deposit container is full of steel bits [ only steel, no impurities ] to the point that it is so jammed up that nothing can fall out, then its just the .10c for the filled-up container.

Try a oscillating tool with a metal cutting blade. Will make it easier

I automatically hit stubborn nuts, bolts and screws with 3 in 1 oil. When I have time to get back to them, they usually are easily freed The copper sulphate thing is something new. Will you share what the reaction is?

Thanks for another good scaping video :) Have you thought about tacking some funnel sides to your screw dump the gas tank? not for bad aim more because not bending asmuch and saving abit on the back we all know how much the bending down is a pain in the ass when it comes to discarding the screws and tiny crap :P

The older American built fans got alot more copper & brass parts than the newer imported junk ,but I usually keep any old desktop & box fans instead of scrapping them unless absolutely junk

You should see how my friend gets the copper out of fan motors & small motors ,coils & windings ,they got a shredder & toss them in & they get digested in no time ,then separate the shredded copper & wiring from the steel

Calculation: Number of fans * Value of copper per fan = Earnings per hour Number of fans * $0.90 = $40 Number of fans = $40 / $0.90 = 44.44 (repeating)

seems like a bit much for little amount fo copper but it does all add up and if you got the time which i have plenty of. i like to take things apart myself

I just gave the blades from 5 ceiling fans to a friend of mine so she can make a sunflower 🌻 The rest is in a pile to scrap out.

I did three of those ceiling fans in a row and my hands were really sore from cutting all the loops of copper.

Too much work for me. But good youtuber. I know what you mean about the knipex. They don't open wide. I was in walmart the other day and there side cutters were cheap and looked good. My sears craftsman were like 7 or 8 bucs. At lowe's.

next time you have your 55 drum almost full of insulated wire let me know and I will drive over and pay you whatever the scrapyard would depending on what side of ok city you are tho my battery dies in my car in between doc visits so I dont like to drive much haha

Die cast parts can be both Aluminium and Zink based alloys, so I asume that you mean cast Zink alloys, when you say "diecast".

I tried to make a living from it. But just too much work for too little pay.

Do yourself a favor and return that Vice to Harbor Freight those things are not made for actual use there are a ton of videos on them and I myself had one nearly break my foot when I cracked and fell off my bench cast iron is not a good choice for a vice especially when it's Hollow
