Thanks you so much for sharing the part about baking the sweet potatoes instead of boiling them. For years, I would boil them and my pies would never taste as good as my other family members. How did yours turn out K Queen ....... if you don't have the butter extract your pie will still turn out well. the butter just adds a layer of down home goodness ole grandma style. I would suggest that you get it because it can be used in so so many recipes for depth of flavor. Question 1) No, but you can use a spoon or butter knife to smooth you pie out but it will really smooth itself out during the bake. 2) Yes, have your pie crust completely thawed when you bake. At 350 my oven will keep my piecrust golden brown, All ovens are different, so if yours darkens your piecrust too much then bake it longer at 325 or cover rim of pie crust with strips of aluminum foil. I've used this pie recipe 3 years in a row. I come back to this video every time. I do make one adjustment, it is a little sweet for my taste so instead of 4 cups of sugar I put 3 1/2 a small tweak for my personal preference but still a great recipe. One other thing I do is instead of 3 deep dish pie shells I get 2 deep dish and 2 regular to make 4 pies instead of 3!

I use this recipe every year! It’s absolutely delicious! But, it doesn’t matter if you boil or bake the sweet potatoes. I’ve done both and the flavor doesn’t change!

Thank you, Meso, for your recipe! I made some sweet potato pies for Thanksgiving Day, following your recipe and EVERYBODY was saying how DELICIOUS they were! I did tweak the recipe just a tad by putting a pinch of ginger and a splash of condensed milk. I also put some eggwash on the edges of the piecrust before baking them. That Saturday after Thanksgiving, all of my family wanted to take a pie home (back to NYC) so I made 4 more pies! Then that Monday I made 4 more!! I will never used another recipe!! Thank you again, so very much!!!!! Smooches!

Just made these pies and my childern and husband loved them. I didnt use the lemon juice just the lemon extract. And instead of deep dish I did the shallow dish pies crust. These pies came out PERFECT!!!!!

Oh my goodness, this is the best sweet potato pie recipe I have ever used. I made 3 of these tonight for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. My family was eating the pie mix from the mixing bowl. Followed your recipe exact and they came out perfect. Couldn't wait until tomorrow so we let them cool and had a slice for dessert. My husband and daughter loves these pies. Made this pie for Thanksgiving and it turned out great, will be making it again this Christmas. I always use to boil my sweet potatoes, but I see now how baking them really makes a difference. I never used butter or lemon extract before either, but I swear it helped take it up a notch. I love me some sweet potatoe pie, trust me you cant go wrong with this recipe, thank you Meso! Thank you Kenny for following the recipe without modifications. This is one recipe that when people won't follow it exactly I feel disappointed because I know what the end product could be but they are going to end up with just another mediocre/average sweet potato pie. It is an awesome pie! A few people here on KZfaq just would not trust me on the lemon flavoring and lemon juice aspect. They thought it would make the pies tart. You have made me proud. Greetings. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I used your recipe with a minor difference in making the slurry and add another tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. The person I shared two pies with really enjoyed and so did I. Your recipe tastes like how sweet potato pie should taste unlike the Patti LaBelle sweet potato pie, which had a weird aftertaste. Tasting your recipe makes me want to test the recipe with more citrus. It's delicious. I do recommend that the sweet potato mixture be allowed to rest overnight so the flavors become more concentrated. I noticed that difference between the first and second pies. Again thank you for showing how you make your sweet potato pies. Yours even taste better than the Betty crocker sweet potato recipe my relative uses. A huge difference, too.

OMFG!!! Oh mama, just lemme tell ya. I'm a full time single dad with 2 little boys. 1 eats whatever but the other is as picky as they get. I have tried several recipes for this. They are ok but frustrating for me to make. I'm a guy, I don't weigh my potatoes like all the other recipes call for. They all are instructions for a single pie and then doubling the ingredients never turns out right. THIS recipe... SO GOOD. The kids and I took our first bite and we all just stopped and looked at each other. Those boys devoured a pie right after they said they were full from dinner. Thank you so much for this. THIS is a keeper for me. Also, I don't know what the lemon juice does but I didn't have any so I just skipped that. Also didn't have any allspice so I will need to try that another time. Again, wonderful. So tasty...

OMG!! Delicious!! I doubled my recipe and used 5 cups sugar and 1 cup brown sugar. I also omitted the lemon juice and lemon extract. This is doggone delicious!!

I remember the Watkins. We had a salesman that would come by our home here in Texas when I was young coming up. Meso you are taking me back to the good times. Thank you so very much for taken me out of the things we going through here in Texas recently with the storm called Harvey. The house that I grow up in was floated out by the Colorado river. Everyone i heard in town had to evacuate . You can only imagine! I live in the city (Big H) but the picture i received from my home town was surrounded by a river. Seasons of life. My mother was a very great cook back in the days we did not have all the things we have today. That is why I am thankful to God! If I am making two potato pies how would I narrow the ingredient down. Thank you for this! I have a good pie recipe I've been making for years but I must try this recipe. I bake my potatoes too but tasted good pies with boiled potatoes. Never used flour in my custard. After baking I put my potatoes through a ricer to get all the strings out, hence nice smooth potatoes.

2 things... I put my pies on a preheated cookie sheet! Beautiful golden color. Also, while mixing I remove strings from my beaters several times! Thumbs up for this recipe. Enjoy the music! Ty very much.

I seriously watch this recipe about 65 times every year. Lol. I watch it over and over again while I'm making sweet potato pies. It is my go-to recipe for Thanksgiving. This is the best sweet potato pie ever!

Yeeeessss, you know what time It is with the Watkins flavorings They have good products for Chicken and beef flavorings Like boillion cube powder, Some brown sugar bumps It up a notch to if you try It you'll like it, and that Pet milk Carmel color . Thank you for sharing 🤣

I am so glad that I finally saw a recipe that bakes the potatoes because on one lazy day I felt compelled to bake them with the skin on and I found out that baking tasted so much better than boiling. My sister condemns me because she thinks she’s the pie queen within our family and she boils her potatoes. I say, if you haven’t tried baking the potatoes, please do because it is the best!!!!!

Hi Nikki, I am so guilty of that because I really don't measure and didn't realize how important it is to a lot of people to know the exact measurements until I started doing my channel. That's why if I don't actually measure I still give a measurement for the viewer that will make theirs taste right. But people that watch me cook for a while eventually get the hang of eyeballing it. I'm glad you are going to try this for C'mas and if you follow the recipe exactly you will see it is the best sweet potato pie you'll ever taste and I am not just saying that.
