What would you do when you think no one is watching? What Would You Do? (WWYD?) explores the varying answers with the help of hidden cameras capturing individuals who have been placed within seemingly everyday situation that quickly go ary. The individuals on this hidden camera show are forced to make tough calls when directly faced with situations of racism, violence, hate crimes, and other hot button cultural issues. Catch John Quinones reporting on these individuals as they make split-second decisions to intervene or mind their own business. WWYD? airs Friday nights at 9|8c on ABC.
What Would You Do? (WWYD) is a hidden camera show, hosted by ABC News correspondent John Quinones, in which unknowing bystanders are placed in uncomfortable, and often compromising real world scenarios in public. WWYD’s hidden cameras focus on the average person’s responses and reactions to these issues of social responsibility. Topics such as gay couples being affectionate in public, date rape, racism and racial profiling, interracial couples, abusive parents, drunk driving, and harassment of the homeless are touched upon in this series. What will you do? Would you choose to intervene in these situations? Watch and join the discussion.

When I was in my teens I would get SO mad when my grandma would ask me to go to the store for her. I would rant to my mom and say “why can’t she make me one list once a week, why does she ask for me everyday?!”. I lost my grandma when she was 57. I would do anything to have her call me everyday and I would go to the store a million times and more. I realized in my older years that it wasn’t about the item from the store, she was lonely and wanted to see me. I am so sad that I didn’t know that sooner. Never take anyone for granted in your life

That saying may have had a significance when people were dumb, uneducated and poor. The truth is - no one in this world asked to be born. free durk my thoughts exactly. But let me tell you something. I took my mother out to universal studios last year and spent the day on city walk. I realized what irks me the most is that she’s getting old, and she doesn’t function the same way as she used to. Sure we don’t always see eye to eye, but something about them getting old sort of reverts them back to their old ways. It’s a conflict inside of them of trying to keep up with themselves and the world around them. It’s not easy watching yourself grow up and at the same time, watching them go down. Let’s appreciate them while we can even if we wanna slit our throats because of them sometimes. Take a day out with your mother just the two of you.

Mannn this reminds me of the time I spent over an hour helping a old man shop. He had a list of things he needed and couldn’t read the aisle signs. So we walked around getting each thing off his list and having a great conversation, he was a veteran, and he had lost his wife a year ago so it had been really hard on him. His wife usually did all the grocery shopping so he was still pretty clueless where everything stayed. Talked my ear off but so did I hahah! Whenever someone asked me something and then leads into a conversation I’m happy to stand there and talk. What’s a little time out of my day to talk to someone? Nothing. But to the other person it can for sure change their whole mood, day, etc etc. so be kind and don’t be an asshole when someone is constantly talking💗 they’ll appreciate a listening ear💗🖤

My mom is an epic conversationalist. She has made lifelong friends out of store clerks and random strangers. She’s also always taught me that impatience is the worst quality a decent person can have, and that has stuck with me. Unless there’s some sort of emergency, I just relax and go with the flow of a situation. Being impatient, or cold and rude, doesn’t help anyone, including oneself.

I've been a mail carrier for 23 years. I have had countless experiences with people like this. There are many people in this world who don't have anyone they can talk to. It doesn't have to be an elderly person. It is every kind of person. Spending just a few minutes talking with someone, giving them a laugh or even just listening can make a huge difference to them. Nobody should ever feel like they don't matter or that nobody cares.

I love helping people, especially elderly people. I've had a soft spot for them since I was a child. I've certainly never heard anyone talk to an elderly person like this but I can assure you that if I do I will speak up. Never, EVER forget that the elderly are human beings exactly like you and me. They were children once. They were young adults once. They've raised a family and had a career. Just like what you're doing. Can you imagine how hard it must be to get old, have no job anymore, your kids are grown and often moved away, your friends are dying left and right. Your health is deteriorating. Should I go on?? It happens to all of us IF we're lucky enough to live that long. Be kind to them.

I was caught in this situation once whilst shopping at my local supermarket. An elderly lady was looking around for something and asked if I can help her. We ended up getting into a conversation about random stuff and then she expressed how lonely she's been without her partner. It's really sad that most people don't realise that when elderly people want to talk to you, it could be partly because they are very lonely and want a moment of friendly company. I know it may be annoying to some people, but please...if you could just spent a few minutes of your time talking to these people, it'll do them a big favour. x

I'm pretty much a magnet for these elderly conversationalists and I love it! I loved listening to my grandfather on my dad's side when I was little. I was the youngest in my family and among my cousins so I often got left behind while they all played since I was quite a few years younger than everyone. He sadly passed away when I was a sophomore at uni. I was also really close with my grandma and spent summers with her till I graduated high school and I loved hearing about life when she was younger. She also passed away a few years ago. And I had a neighbor who was an elderly gentleman when I moved into my first apartment for uni. He was legally blind, he could see blurry shapes but not much else so I'd help him with his grocery shopping about every 10 days or so. His family all lived in other states and I got the feeling that they weren't really that close a bunch since he'd only get phone calls or packages on holidays and his birthday. I moved away after graduating, though I'd give him a call 2-3 times a month until he also passed away. People these days are always rushing off or don't look beyond themselves. A lot of people also seem to dismiss the elderly as if their worth as people have diminished just because they move slower or can start to be forgetful or are just not used to all the tech stuff and trends that keep popping up every year. They seem to forget that it is through the wisdom, and hard work or the generations that came before us that we where we are today and we can enjoy all these modern conveniences.

Why is this exactly how my great grandma is? She doesn't care who you are she will literally talk to you for hours. We were in Walmart taking her shopping for a few grocery's once and we lost her. We were looking for her and when we found her we were like "Nanny we thought we lost you" she reply's back with "I most certainly wasn't lost, I am talking to my new friend. We've done been talking for about 45 minutes" then my mom and I wait for her to get done talking for another 15 minutes. When we left I asked her if she had knew the lady from anywhere and she said "No. Don't you know I just like to talk?" 😂😂

I love helping the elderly if I could. Most of them are so cute and sweet, and I honestly sympathize for them. It’s not easy getting old, and having trouble walking, thinking clearly or reading. I’ve lived with my grandma all my 20 years of living, and love her so much. She’s about to be 85 in a few days, and although she has dementia she is still doing great for the most part. I try to help her by feeding her meals every day because she can’t do it anymore and feeding her dog. I gotta spend more time with her. Love this ❤️

This episode brought me to tears 😢. I am actually sobbing. My mom was about 80 yrs old at the time she could not drive any more, every Sunday she was just like that when I took her shopping. Every Sunday we went shopping and then to lunch. She stopped to talk to everyone, some ppl even tried to get away and she followed them just like the old lady was doing. Just to talk, and tell them the poem she wrote. I heard it at least 50 times every Sunday, I memorized it. The first few times I tried to hurry her along because ppl were kind but wanted to get there shopping done and get home. Then after just a few Sundays I though to myself, she loves people and talking to people because she had no visitors but me all week and she loved reciting her poem. It made her happy and I though some day she will not be here and I will miss this so very much. I am glad I turned her loose on strangers and smiled as I stood by her and loved how much enjoyment she got out of it, she passed at 87. I was right, I miss her and her poem to strangers every time I have to walk in to a store. I wish I could have just 1 more shopping day with her. Her is her poem: When I was young and in my prime I chased the boys all the time. But now that I am old and grey I think about it any way. I 💘 LOVE YOU MOM!

"My mother has MS and father has parkinsons..." is that why you were just staring into space at the beginning of the clip instead of rushing off and helping them? Or have you fobbed them off to a home?

I love elderly people. They have such great stories. I helped a woman who had gotten a basket and ended up needing a cart in the back of the store because it was too heavy. I put her basket in my cart as i was done and followed her so she could finish her shopping. I then carried my bags out so she could use my cart. She was the sweetest lady, i heard all about her husband, kids, and grandkids. Yeah, it cost me 10-15 minutes of my time, but I was raised to help and respect my elders, and I would hope someone would help my grandma in that situation.

Kind of weird that she suppose to be the ''mother'' while the ''son'' appears more of a grandson. Am i the only who noticed this?

I work at safeway and do the grocery pickup orders. elderly people are so grateful for help and it seriously warms my heart ❤️ I’m always willing to go above and beyond to help kind old people find things and I’ll even walk across the store so they don’t have to. Being kind to employees will get you everything

This reminds me of when I would work in a grocery store. There was this old lady who would always have trouble finding the things on her list. Somehow we would always catch eyes and I would walk her up and down the store and help her find each product. She was a great conversationalist. 😂 I realized that what she really needed was a friend. I miss her. ❤

I work in retail and sometimes just taking the time to help someone and talking to them about products you can make a real difference in their day. People know me by name at my store because I love to talk to them and help them out. The last lady in this video was right when she said we all need to slow down a little.
