A rare opportunity to look behind the scenes at on on the road tuning appointment. Many thanks to Paul Barney for allowing me to make this video and providing the footage.

The difference it makes when you know someone who actually knows what they are doing instead of someone who thinks they can that’s the difference

Great video from a different perspective to usual, and a real insight into the kind of things you discuss with customers. Really interesting stuff. As an aside - I have a 1275 A+ HIF38 Mini from 1994 with electronic ignition, would you agree that my BP6ES plugs should be gapped at 35-thou? Many thanks

I noticed a pattern, that he makes sure the coil is correct for the type of spark distribution you are running. From what I've seen so far, when he measures the primary resistance of the coils as being 0.8 ohms, he sets the gap to 0.035". If you don't get a reply from him, measure your coil's primary resistance before you do anything. He suggested to me once to run 0.040" gap on those BP6ES plugs because the coil that came with the electronic ignition kit for my car measured 0.6ohm. I'd originally had my plugs at stock 0.025", I tried 0.030" first, noticed an improvement, then 0.035" as he normally recommends for 0.8ohm coils, more improvement, then I tried the 0.040", only a slight improvement again there at which point I left it, this is with BP6ES plugs in a Cortina mind you, but so far the spark plugs haven't burnt away or anything, nothing's failed in the ignition system. It didn't hurt me to try. Running the stock gaps wasn't making the most of my expensive ignition system.
