Welcome to my one week budget shop for my family of 13! Today's shop includes items to make a weeks worth of breakfast, lunches, and dinners, feeding thirteen people for one week (when added to items we already have on hand). This large family has just been through 'birthday season'. Four birthdays in two weeks meant that we didn't end up eating as much normal food as usual, so we had many items remaining from previous grocery hauls. So, in today's online grocery haul, you'll see that I've purchased fill-in items, without going overboard. In doing so, I saved some money, which is always nice after a bunch of birthdays!
Total cost of groceries from Woolworths Australia: $383.72 AU
total cost in US dollars: $256.12 US
On my channel I share original recipes, big batch cooking, and grocery hauls to help you get creative and feed your tribe.
Don't forget to hit the SUBSCRIBE button so you don't miss out on future grocery and kitchen adventures!

I have never heard of buttering the inside of my bread for a sandwich. We put mayonnaise, mustard, pickles etc on our bread for a sandwich. It’s so interesting to see how others do things in different places around the world. 🌻 Love the grocery haul and pantry/refrigerator tour! 🌻

Thank you for sharing! It really is interesting! I think it’s only in the US that people are not butting their bread - I wonder what instigated this change? Do you butter toast? 🍞

I'm from the states and my family normally use Mayo instead of butter on our sandwiches.

Thank you for sharing! This seems to be the most common practice in the US. We use mayonnaise, too….though our bread still gets buttered 😆

I'm from the UK and a sandwich has to be made with buttered bread. Butter brings out the best flavour from every filling. Love your videos!

So true! And bread is honestly just a carrier for butter, really! 😁

I'm a fellow Aussie - and yes, I butter my sandwiches - and toast, of course! The only exception would be when I use peanut butter or mashed avocado on a sandwich, as these are already buttery (I'm actually not a fan of butter and peanut butter together!) Good haul. :)

I completely agree! However, if I make a pb&j, butter is still going on the jam side 😆 Other than that, yes, I count both peanut butter and avocado as butter in their own right.

I live in FL,USA When I make onion sandwiches, I butter the bread. Bread/butter, sliced onions, salt & pepper & a little italian dressing sprinkled over the butter. YUMMO BTW this is not a southern thing. I was born & raised in PA. We love our onions. Eat them like apples!!

Great haul Liana. I love the idea of a video explaining various Austrailian foods and Austrailian culture. Will look forward to seeing that. We usually don't put butter on our bread for sandwiches but use mayo. I have definitely buttered my sandwiches in the past growing up in Canada. Take care.

Butter would have to be used for, say, a jam sandwich though? Thank you for sharing! 😀

East coast Canada here, we've always buttered our bread!! As for custard, my mom used to make it from scratch and I still do. I know Bird's Custard powder is popular but I don't use it. We have Wheat-a-bix which seems to be the same as your Wheat-bix. Interesting seeing what others do and don't do!! Cheers 😊

Lovely ☺️ My mum always made egg custard from scratch. It was such a popular baby food in the 80s 😆

Many butter their bread in the USA. Many don't but use different condiments -mayo, mustard, ketchup etc. So the sandwich isn't dry without the butter
@feedatribe

It does seem to be that way ☺️ I can’t imagine a condiment having the same effect as butter, I feel they are extras that are only enhanced by the butter. But I’m happy for all who appreciate their unbuttered bread 😆

In my family here in the U.S. we put mayonnaise on our bread when we make a sandwich and some of us add some kind of mustard depending on the type of sandwich. That is, everyone except my youngest, she always has what i call a "dry" sandwich: she only puts meat on her bread with no mayo, no mustard nothing and she prefers toasted bread. However, I've had cucumber and butter sandwiches before and loved them. When I make grilled cheese sandwiches, I butter the outside of the bread, lol. Looking forward to your upcoming videos on Australian foods and their history.

Hi Liana that Aussie food trivia video sounds like it will be a fun one, I love our Aussie icon foods. I don’t use butter much but both my kids and my husband butter their bread for sandwiches and toast using that western Star spreadable butter. Love the grocery haul, I’ve never seen those little packs of digestive biscuits where did you get those? Do Woolies and Cole’s allow you to buy all that milk online? That’s great as you’d need it with your big family.

The 12 pack of digestives are from Woolies. I only get them when half price, but they’re a good deal when they are (about $3.50). Yes, there aren’t any restrictions on milk that I’ve experienced. I’m always flabbergasted at how much milk we go through…but I think it works out to 400ml per person, per day, so that seems about right, I suppose 😆🥛
