Great review! I love new XPRO quick power locks, have them on my 190 XPRO4 - huge improvement over the older ones. The new 5 section monopods look much improved, great for when you need light weight and a smaller footprint.

Very nice review! I'm in the market for a monopod to replace my old tripod for a lot of use and it has been difficult to find the information I;ve wanted. Your video seems to have sorted that out! I knew I wanted one with chicken feet so it can stand alone and I needed a tall one since I'm 6'6" and one which can take heavy lenses and was made of carbon fiber and can handle a ball head. This one seems to fit all my requirements - thanks for making a great video!

Purchasing a monopod strikes me as very much a matter of personal preference - well worth trying out different designs in person. A couple of days ago, I checked out the current Sirui and Manfrotto models. Although the Sirui appears to be highly popular, I much preferred the Manfrotto. But in the end, I gravitated to the current carbon fiber Gitzo, which instead of three feet has a single, 5cm/2" diameter rubber foot around a ball that pivots. That design just made more sense to me. I'll be buying it this week (Gitzo is offering a rebate until the end of this month), and it will be used with the Manfrotto 500AH head shown in this video.

old video I know....I love monopods...I used to have an old Manfrotto monopod but 3 years ago I decided to get a Sirui P-424S with a manfrotto head- I found the Sirui more stable of course because of its longer feet...but I confess I hate the twist locking mechanism...and after 3 years I think they are not as tight as they used to be...so I'm considering getting something else...have you compared the Sirui against the Manfrotto Xpro monopod? I know the Manfrotto has smaller feet but to be honest I would never let a monopod stand on its own with a camera attached...nope...I always bring my Sachtler tripod and use it for the wedding ceremony etc but I use my monopod a lot for preparation and details at the reception. I have a gimbal but I don't always have the chance to use it. thanks

Hello. I ve bought this monopod 2 days ago and tried it a bit. I have 2 problems. First when i attach my dslr on the fluid head i have a problem changing the battery of my camera cause it's exactly when the head locks and unlocks. I have to put the camera base way front so it sticks ahead and looks weird. Second even if i lock the system down to the feet it stills moves a bit back and forth or left and right as you said in the video and i can't pan the way i want. There is no letter on my fluid head. Am i doing something wrong? Thanks in advance

Thanks for this video. I've just bought the monopod & base - I can't work out how to remove the base - instructions are pretty dire. Have you tried removing it and, if so, how did you do it please?
@HenryOrtlip

Hey Susan, above the locking mechanism is a black rough part. That is the part that unscrews to separate the base.

Is there a rubber feet supplied if you unscrew the fluid base? The other version uses this feet Manfrotto calls the R108623, but in the explosion drawing of this fluid base-model, it was missing...

Hey, sorry to bother you but I saw your comment on a video essay about the film industry. You mentioned you just wrapped up your studies in UCLA's Screenwriting Program. I myself am intensely passionate about writing in the film medium, and am a senior in high school who is trying to get into that exact program. If you would, could you give me any tips or advice, or tell me what you think it was that really helped you? Writing is important to me, my grades and test scores are about up there with UCLA's, but 'm still absolutely desperate, as you know it's intensely competitive. Just anything you could tell me on what you think helps getting in, I would really appreciate. Thank you.

I just got the same Manfrotto MVMXPROC5US monopod. But I’m having trouble detach the the base from the mono pod. The menu just said unscrew the ring which I did. But there was not possible unscrew it and pull the base off since the base can’t be secured without turning. Help?

I am brand new to the world of monopods....I am shooting with a Nikon D 850, and a 70-200 lens. Looking for more stability on location as I like to shoot at the long end. Would this be a good stabilizer for me? (camera not video camera)

+Henry Ortlip ...Nice video, but can you tell me how this model compares to the SIRUI P-204SR? So many brands and models out there, it makes it very confusing! Can you tell me what yours cost you? Thank you. ... Joe

Hi Joe, Pricing all depends on whether you get a head included in a bundle or buy parts individually. I suggest B&H for purchasing. I'm currently using the XPRO so I'm not familiar with the SIRUI P0204SR.

I have a crazy question, what do you think about paring this with the Edelkrome slider one pro for run and gun shooting? Would it work for a motorized slide with the based locked and hand holding it? I run and gunshot with that style of monopod. I have both the old version video monopod Manfrotto and the Sirui video monopod. Would a slider one pro work with it or would there be too much shake or too much trouble to get a good slide shot? I do not own a slide one pro but am thinking of buying one. This is how I would like to use it: I can only carry the monopod, and a camera for the fast shooting I do. I was planning on putting the slider one pro on the monopod head and keep it locked for most shots then I would unlock it for any slides I might want. Is that even possible to do with these two pieces of gear?
@HenryOrtlip
@HenryOrtlip 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Karen, I like your innovative thinking. I sometimes put a small camera (80D) on the XPRO monopod when its locked and let it stand by itself. Putting a SliderONE on the monopod? No, it will not be stable-- and a huge liability and only a matter of time till it falls over. The Sirui video monopod would be more stable to test this workflow. Personally, my advice to you would get the Mefoto Globtrotter Tripod. It's really compact, easy to use and well made. Hope this helps! :) I kinda go over this in my SliderONE vs Wing video.
@katielay3288
@katielay3288 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Since I already own the Sirui, I will test it to see if it would work-- the only way to really know I guess -that is once I buy the slider one pro. I have put a quick connect on the bottom of my Zhiyun Crane and hooked it to the monopod so I could get more controlled shots with the monopod but disconnect the two for more free movement with the Zhiyun Crane. That worked fairly well and gave me a chance to not carry the Zulu for 8 hours without being able to set it down. I can also hold the bottom of the monopod and hoist the Zhiyun Crane in the air for high cran like shots though it requires the remote and I am still experimenting with this idea. I will check out the Globetrotter. Thank you for your answer.

Thanks. Good to hear. I bought 500. But it now refuses to let go of my tripod. I have had to send to manfrotto to try and remove. :(. I tried putting in fridge and rubber straps to try and remove. :(. Motto. Be very careful of tightening up head to Tripod as it might be hard to Remove.
