Hey I liked the radio piece man! I hope many people hear that and heed your advice. It’s a very good message during these uncertain times.

You’re right about using the OP-Z headless, using the iPad straight away probably makes it more difficult to learn the workings of the OP-Z. It’s extremely intuitive without the display. I tend only to use a screen if I want to see exactly what I’m doing to the lfo or if I forget where I’ve stored an fx or sample. Only had my OP-Z for a few weeks so found this really useful👍

Thank you, Jakob. It is hard to follow sequencer breakdowns in videos - without detailed narration, people unfamiliar with the UI get lost in a hurry. Here, with LED guides drowned by the lighting, you have done the jobs about as well as it can be done. If you do a follow-on video on the OP-Z, you should partially shield the synth from the light source or/and lose some of the background light while you show the interface. You did this with your hand a couple of times, but having something set up throughout to let the LED steps stand out would help. Not that you want to lose visibility of the icons, but you see what I mean. Otherwise, well done - let us see some more.

Actually really informative video. I know lots about midi and sysex and so on, have an OP-Z on the way to me but don't have it yet. Have read the manual. But your method of showing the step components and shifting notes forward and backwards etc, very easy to follow and explained well with great humor. Thanks for the effort, we appreciate it :)

Verkar vara en juste pryl, men med hög inlärningströskel, fast det hade ju även TB-303 för mig (och satan vad jag slet ut dess manual 😀). Tack för ännu ett trevligt och humorfyllt avsnitt, Jakob!

Excellent radio piece Jakob! Excited to hear what you do with the op-z - I’ve been using it for over a year now, the LEDs become second nature after a few days. I hardly ever use the app; but it’s really incredible sequencing multiple synth apps in AUM!

It’s an enticing piece of kit, but as has already been written- how much?!? You could pretty much buy the rest of their range for that... Oh, great video as always!

To make the OPZ useable for me it would have to be about 5x bigger. I love the idea of just slipping it in a pocket and always having it on person. Those indicator LED’s are just impossible, can’t do PO’s for the same reason, I can barely use Elektron stuff because they highlight active steps with Red LED’s, I’d need custom firmware or something be change indicator colours. Nice to see your strange moves gracing my screen once again.

periurban you think op z is too much? It has 8 tracks with built in synth and samplers. It has vocal live effects. It has dmx and unity sequencing. And it sequences external gear with extremely powerful probability modes. Oh and it fits in your pocket, while never bugging you to update it. Try to find this all at any price and report back. Then we’ll talk abou the remaining features.
@periurban

@@okeribok My iPad has unlimited tracks with hundreds of amazing synths, and a few decent samplers. It has any kind of sequencing you can imagine, and it links to any gear you like. It fits in a (large) pocket, and it comes with free updates that all devs can take advantage of to give you more and more functionality. So, I'm reporting back and ready to match your wee dinky toy feature for feature. Over to you!
@okeribok

@@periurban An iPad comes with free updates that force themselves upon you and are likely to break compatibility. But you are right in that an ipad is more versatile. It could be that an op-z is not for you. Does not need to be. You do you.
@periurban
@periurban 4 жыл бұрын
@@okeribok Indeed. Updates can be a problem, so I do tend to go carefully there. A wee bit of research is required prior to any big update. But generally speaking the updates have been amazing, both from Apple and individual devs. I've been recording exclusively with the iPad since 2010, so check out my channel for what can be done. The crap bits will be my limitations! I've been making music since the mid seventies, and I used to dream about a thing like the iPad. I used to call it "a studio in a box", but I never foresaw this. Cheers!

TE was providing it for free I would guess, anyhow why not it is really okay... only I could really amuse everytime so much about this wonderful shyshy product, really ugly looking like a TV remote control from the 90s West Germany Grundig and almost exactly that size. As I was meeting only very special kind of human beings buying such a stuff and then the others joking arround with them. We had one guy who spent thousands over thounsands of euro with super funky TE gear and he was nevery able to create any piece of art with it, anyhow his friends very really convinced about him. Please do not get me wrong, but in my opinion it is right that product. Of cours a few musicians out there using it for making sound... har har. Just joking..I can only say it is sooooo hart expensive and I was getting burning eyes and aching head after only 5 Minutes with it. REally to small for my eyes and fingers. Not for me or older people. Sry.
