NEW DELHI: Seventy five years ago this week, India launched a military operation (its second after Partition) to annex the princely state of Hyderabad into its fold. Then Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, had resisted the idea of merging his state, among the richest princely states then and which had a Hindu-majority population, with India. He had an army of about 25,000-30,000 which began unleashing mayhem on the Hindu population. On September 13, 1948, the Indian Army launched a strike led by Maj. Gen. JN Chaudhuri, who later went on to become the Army Chief. It was a swift military operation that lasted five days and eventually Hyderabad acceded to India. But it was officially called 'police action'. In this episode of 'Simply Nitin', StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale explains the how and why of the police action that wasn't.

Nitin asking viewers to read from the internet and instantly regretting it (followed up by saying... don't take everything at face value and do more research) is just too funny. Another excellent retelling of "lost" history.

If there were no cruel acts of Islamic rulers & their Rajakars acts on women, children, and seniors, and lastly if there was no Patel as HM, we definitely won't have been liberated as it happened, it was even at that movement challenging for Patel to convince Nehru to do Operation polo.

Ultimately the credit goes to Nehru for green lighting this as well as numerous others. Unless you think Manmohan is the reason for liberalisation and not his boss.

You did not tell why it was called “ Op Polo”, nizam was fond of playing polo, that is why it was called so.

Kindly refrain from using the word annexed. Hyderabad always belonged to Bharat, irrespective of who controlled it. It wasn't annexed. It reunited with the motherland. Jai Hind.

Sir ji 🙏🏼 Request you to please explain the military jargons as you go along. It greatly help in increasing the viewership. People need brief explainers on various topics for various reasons (projects, etc). Also more use of maps at the time of speaking about directions of approach etc would also help. We all love "Simply Nitin" for many reasons; one being you bring out different topics and not the same topics that are available on other channels. Topics that hold relevance yet somehow no one has thought to taking them up!😊😊😊 Another request is if Stratnews can open up an online video library of various weapons & systems used by Indian forces at various times it would be a great view & service (I'm sure you'll be able to garner the required sponsorship if you see value in it) 🙏🏼🌷🙏🏼
