Skullz reacts to Sweat by Tool for the first time
Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles. Formed in 1990... due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and very long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship, and the band's insistence on privacy....Tool has won four Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.

I was fully engulfed in the Seattle grunge scene and saw everything and my buddy gave me a ticket to see Henry Rollins in 1992 downtown Seattle in an all ages club. The opening band was fucking Tool! Their 38th show ever and they blew us away! I bought this EP from Adam Jones and still have it and the ticket stub. It was awesome!

Wow!!!!! Now THAT is fucking awesome there!!! And here I was just thinking about how all of these whippersnappers ( like Skullz here - sorry, Skullz, but I DO give you a pass 😂😂 ) today have just now gotten on the TOOL train, and then I read THIS!!! Now, that is commitment there, and omg how I’d love to have seen them in their early days like you!!!!!

I've always took this song like the character is an ignorant person becoming conscious of everything around him and realizing he's stuck in a karmic cycle or the samsara. It's the beggining of the hero's journey, where he is completely lost but he knows there's something deeper in all this experience he's living in. There's a good reason why this song is the opening of their discography, Maynard is telling his path, everything is gently set.

Interesting take. I've felt similar but would use the word Primative in place of Ignorant as my personal take had to do with becoming aware of one's potential. So kinda sameish take with subtle differences. Always cool to hear others thoughts.

Heard it from Maynard’s mouth at a live performance that, “This is about the time I took a shit load of acid and listened to every existing Joni Mitchell album consecutively”. I’m guessing that what the, “It’s the way you whisper”, is all about. Of course he could have just been trolling us but I know for sure that he is the product of loving things like both Joni Mitchell and Black Sabbath simultaneously.

This was a super fun reaction to watch! Both listening to Tool, and the progression of the individual albums themselves, brings about a kind of evolution of thoughts and feelings. In fact, I feel like the Tool discography is a good representation of the process of evolution itself. It begins as compact and aggressive. It gradually becomes more complex. It mutates, loses some traits (like Paul, the original bassist), develops new traits (like, Justin, the new bassist) and continues to adopt new behaviors that allow it to not only survive, but be successful as a continually adapting and increasingly complex organism. Anyway, sorry, this is a long-winded way of saying I SUPER enjoyed watching this, and I was following and rocking right along with what felt like a callback to an experience that was simply exciting and fun.

I’ve been enjoying watching your journey. There’s been times when I wish I could go back and listen to TooL for the first time again. I’d say it’s a strong weighted reason why honest TooL reaction videos, like yours, are so popular. I, for one, enjoy watching people discover Tool, kinda get to re-experience the moment “vicariously” through others. I often get further insight into Tool songs through reactors’ interpretations too, which is humbling. I’ve been listening to Tool since high school (1999) and they have certainly shaped my outlook, and in-look, on life. Being able to play their songs 🎸 I’ve gained further appreciation for their art. I honestly don’t think I’d be the same person without having experienced TooL and Maynard’s lyrics since my youth.

Each Tool song is another tool in the belt. Sweat is 1st cos, if you're not ready to do work, just leave the tools alone, child. Everything we stive for is drenched in the oil of our blood, sweat and tears. This short song has so much packed in there, hints of all they'd become as a band. I'm glad I heard Opiate 1st after I saw Sobor on Mtv. It was cheaper, and I was broke. Sweat is still my favorite Tool
