Its been a while but here is the 5th part in our OPL programming tutorial series. In this tutorial we are looking at the use of time and sound in programs adding a further dimension to what the Psion can do!

The ER5 emulator seems to have been lost from the web, it is included on this CD download (which is still available) for only $7 and includes loads of other software - show Patrick some love

This is such a great resource. I just dragged my Organiser II out today as a prop to my Apple Newton repair video I’m making. Had to google how to exit the calculator and get back to the menu 😂

Ooooh Apple Newton! I want one so bad but they keep their value way to well!!! Will be sure to check out your video 😃 Ha ha, yeah its not an intuitive OS on the Psion II, also its confusing when you swap from files to program as you use the arrows for a new line in files and exe in program! Why would you do that? 🤣

Wow, this brings back memories. When I was in middle school, I think 7th grade, I had a Psion II that I bought from a second hand shop. This would have been around 1997-1998. I took it to school one day. I had been trying to make a program to that made a little jingle of sound. I had it out in Mrs Lemley’s geography class one morning. I think she had finished the lesson, and maybe we had an assignment and I was finished… the point being it was dead silent in the room. I accidentally hit the button to run the program. I seem to remember that you can’t interrupt it while it’s running- or, at least, I didn’t know how. I was only playing for a second or two, but felt like an eternity! Me being the nerdy kid who never acted out or got in trouble, I was mortified and just froze. The type of sound this thing makes is hard to pick out what direction it’s coming from. Mrs Lemley looked around the class and said “I don’t know what it is, or where it’s coming from, but put it up!”. Which I promptly did 😂

🤣🤣 I bet you just wanted the ground to open up and swallow you like a Sarlacc pit! I wish I had got my hands on one of these when I was younger, its so much fun to mess about writing simple programs on it!

Ultimately yes, and more. There was so much more added in later versions of OPL. By the time the 7 was released you could do so many things in OPL to the point that what you're seeing here could be considered as legacy.

@@ZoidZoidZoidberg yeah, do you know where I can get data about progamming in the psion series 7 version of opl? Im only using a emulator and the default progamming aplication.

You sure can! All the tutorials work on all the Psion's, just open OPL and start programming!
