first of all, thanks for your content here! back in the days i was addicted to palm's and pocket pc's and your channel brings back old memories! lovley! <3 second, i use disposable vapes with charging circut for that kind of stuff.. works very well for every device i put it in.. and it is for free! if you pickup these vape's in the outside world.. =P i think your methot is too cost intensive.. imho.. anyways! thanks for your content and please keep up your work for my entertainment.. all the best, stay healthy and greeting from DE.. Hmmm, having a similar, just very cheap aliXpress device, im simply using 3x LI-ion AAA batteries. Im charging manually, getting the batteries out is a few seconds job.

I could do that but they get moved around a lot depending what I'm filming. Might be worth getting a few extras so I can have the cubbies wired though

Your cubby setup really lends itself to using some addressable LED strip and a small microcontroller running WLED - it would allow you to set each cubby colour, could include a proper warm white and also run various FX, recall presets, highlight a specific cubby, etc. I have something similar (also Ikea units) and it works really well (it's even got just enough cubbies/'pixels' to show basic Tetris shapes) though can't share a pic here. Controllable over WiFi but there are ways to add IR so you could still use the PDA. Happy to help you with the setup if that's of interest.

I have looked at using DMX lights for my studio, currently the cost is an issue but I love the ability to program effects and sequences in DMX 😃

@@HandheldComputing I couldn't get it to work with a demo of the paid version, it doesn't allow you to apply changes, it hides the feature behind a paywall. only the free version allowed me to apply changes

Sadly this is the same chipset as the Sony Vaio P11Z so Linux isn't going to do very well 😒 as you an see from these two videos:- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLJkh9d1qpPZYJc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y-ByrJeFvbLao3k.html I also tried several other Linux brews as well as a couple of Ubuntu versions always the same, OK for office but not a lot else 😒

I was almost gonna do this exact thing but I discovered the Vaio P didn't have a touchscreen, which (as petty as it sounds) turned me off (no pun intended hahrhharhr) - Gonna buy a Nanote Next when I get the monay

If I would be you, I would be very annoyed constantly having to care about these things. I‘d probably just run some white wires to each compartment of the shelf and then use one AC/DC Adapter to power them all at once. I‘m doing twitch steaming myself and have spent quite some time optimizing away or automating as many „switch-on“ tasks as I could 😄

I love that I can control them with the M500, I haven't found an equivalent app for windows CE they are all manufacturer specific and cannot "learn commands" if you know otherwise I would love to be able to do this on a PPC of HPC

Great review. I really like the purple color scheme, there were VAIO laptops and desktops using it too so it’s something I associate with 2000s Sony designs. Oh, and perhaps SGI workstations. But we can’t all like the same designs though, that would be boring. 🙂

You have limited language choice on first boot so start by doing a hard reset. Hold volume slider down, press reset pin, then confirm

Such a cute device. To think, something that small runs a full desktop OS back then... Crazy. I still like the design with a keyboard tho. There's something about mini laptops that's just.. I don't know. They're unique, lol

I use one of this machines for street hacking. A few years ago I used to use Kali but nowadays is tricky, so my best solution is Manjaro or Lubuntu, the little thing became pretty useful.

One reason why you may not be able to browse the internet on that device is because your time and date are not correct. That would be my only guess.

I always find it difficult to get a sharp image (not helped by the small pixel size) on lit screens, it is bright when I film - not sure how to improve it

I swear that C902 was the same one that was sent to me by mistake! I ordered a Satio and was sent a C902 instead. It was boxed and had all of the leads and the 1GB Memory stick AND waa vodafone branded, which leads me to believe it is the one you have now. I was almost going to swap the memory stick out with the 512mb one i had but I left it in out of honesty. I'm glad it has reached a good home!

I'm 22 seconds in and I want it already!!! *looks over at my Samsung Q1* - I'm 7m34s in now and the stylus looks like one that came with a Nokia I once had. - Right - video is over with now. I enjoyed that one. There's something cool about running a full blown desktop OS on something so small. Just a shame the Atom CPU sucked so bad.

Its a weird Stylus, looks like a guitar pick! That Atom, HDD and XP go together pretty well it's very responsive. The UMID Mbook has an SSD so boot is <20 sec but the 1/2GB RAM means you get system lock ups and it hangs when using the page file, the Viliv is much better

😂🤣😂 Honestly the video playback is much better on the Acer N300 which has half the CPU speed but same resolution its as if adding a graphics chi to the HTC made its playback WORSE!

Nice video! Kind of excited to see how ReactOS works, and which Windows drivers will actually install. Would be nice if the GMA 500 driver installed there. Also would be eager to see how ArcaOS runs, especially with DOS, WIN16, and WIN32 apps as well as Linux via Orca! And for a runner-up… Haiku. See if Be-OS inspired shenanigans get that super lightweight vibe going for better support? Plus I think a GMA500-DRI driver existed once upon a time.

I too have ditched my smartphone. Too big and heavy honestly. I'm using the Nokia 9300. Can't get it to read websites (operator no longer uses GPRS) but that's fine. And I use my Olympus Stylus 1s now more and more which I'm happy about. Another banger of a video my man, keep 'em rollin'!

@@HandheldComputing Thank you HHC! I remember "back in the day" the 9300 was considered relatively large, nothing like the 9500 but still big. But today the 9300 is dwarfed in both size and weight by modern smartphones! Ah, the Galaxy Note's, I had the first one when it first came out and was impressed. Then had the 3 and 8. Then used the Fold 4 for a while until I had my brain operation / stroke and realized I can't keep up anymore so went for a bigger buttoned 9300.

Just bought a Series 5 8mb in box almost new from the looks it. I've been converting one for years! That keyboard ❤ it's part of my retro EDC. It's this, a moleskine journal, a Casio Walkman and radio and my trusty Nokia 8210 (4g) I'm also almost exclusively gaming on a Palm Zire Z22 (Scrabble and Space Trader mostly but a bit of trade winds) I've even found a way to get Netflix and KZfaq on a Casio EV-600 handheld TV. so I can sit in the garden and watch it on that. I could have done all this with an iPad but why the hell would I when I can do it using vintage tech?

The Psion 5 might mean you leave your moleskin notebook behind thanks to Sketch, there is also a multi-image/page program you can use to create 'notepads' I just can't remember what its called.... Love space trader, I've played it through a couple of times over the years 😃 I'm intrigued as to how you got Netflix on your handheld TV though 🤔

@@HandheldComputing I prefer physical pen and paper for journaling, but will make use of spreadsheets and Word on the psion. I have ordered a CF card reader and a CF card with loads of psion programs and games so I can play around with those and use the card to transfer documents over to my laptop.

@@jimsmith9056 There is nothing quite like pen and paper when it comes to jotting notes 😃 Psiwin 2.3.3 works under win10 (mostly) so you can sync and convert files, its just the explorer that doesn't work

Maybe? I am currently trying a few options for a repair and will follow with a video if successful - though I do wonder it a 3D printed replacement parts might be better than trying to fix 30 year old plastics 🤔

I decided to look into it after this video, it looks like the default video player on AntiX just doesnt work, try using MPV it at least works for me with MP4 and MKV files (didnt have any AVI to test with) you could also install VLC if you like. the MP4 was only 480p but the MKV was 1080p and outside of not fitting on my little netbooks screen it ran fine from a flash drive.

SO I installed VLC and playback was poor but did work. The CPU was 100%. On further reading there was a GMA500 driver (not open source) released for Ubantu but not for Debian and as AntiX is based on Debian it cannot use the GPU 🙄 - a real shame as it was otherwise pretty snappy

@@HandheldComputing ahh :( that sucks. Yeah all I have is atom netbooks of similar specs. I dont believe Ubuntu supports 32-bit anymore as well which makes things harder with the proprietary driver. Turns out that the reason GMA500 doesnt work thought it never worked well, is what code did exist in the kernel was removed 4 years ago. Unfortunately it seems the GMA500 is just a Linux Nightmare.

@@chriswillis4960 This is what I am finding - tried Ubantu 14.06 yesterday (which apparently does support the GMA500) and it was so laggy it was unusable 🙄 TBH I'm going to Vista on it to see how bad/good that was when it was new and then I think I'm going to try windows XP as thet runs really well on the UMID Mbook and Viliv S5...

Good luck, just follow the instructions and its pretty easy with no soldering involved - just take your time removing the back panel, if you bend it it's difficult to re-fit

I keep revising it... but if you follow the OPL tutorials you will see that creating a dice roller is super easy and then you can customise it for your character 😃
