Support for CentOS 7 hasn't been axed and will continue until 30/06/2024, so if you're on 7... don't upgrade to 8.

I am leaning towards Alma. They seam to be developing fast and efficient, compared to rocky(For obvious reasons). And since Centos is dead by the end of the year (less than 6 months) Speed is needed! at least for centos 8 replacement(And the migration script, also weighs in on the selling point) Also, Alma seems to have gotten a lot attention form the likes of Cpanel and Plesk, and as hosting is mostly what I used Centos for, that weighs in a lot. For home lab, it will be a mix of Debian/Ubuntu and FreeBSD. I still have a lot to decide, but that is how I am leaning so far.

RH changed the dev subscription to allow a bit wider use cases than before, but for no-cost, non-beta enterprise production, you're still going to need a different distro. On the plus side, I can now learn the production version of RHEL, and use it to operate a production server of my own. i would suggest OpenSUSE as a suitable migration Distro and here's why: 1) Enterprise Credentials + Support 2) RPM based distribution with a Track record as long or longer than Redhat 3) It runs on more Enterprise grade hardware than any other Linux distro in the world (both current & past).

I wouldn't use CentOS Stream out of principle after they pulled their support commitment.

In my opinion, Almalinux is the closest to where CentOS were. Enterprise driven with community support, being backed by enterprise Cloudlinux, and having the unbeatably solid rock stable release. All it needs to replace CentOS. By the, thanks for this video. Clearly explained everything

I can get the point to slow release cycles, if php removes or changes a function in a point release and it breaks my webapp for example, I wouldn't be likely to upgrade quickly either.

What I find what we have know is open source software not being Abe to run the open source software they run in radio stations linux! Most US radio stations run on CentOS Linux for most of them! it's become so popular that changing is like replacing every radio station at time at one whole radio station all at once!

We have bit the bullet and going to Ubuntu, access to skills seems to be easier, we were lucky we are moving from Centos 7, so we have a 2 year plan to migrate.

If I were to compare these to Windows: Stream - Release Preview Red Hat - Release Rocky/Alma/Oracle - Last feature update Microsoft does a good job at explaining Insider channels. But not Red Hat.

Oracle Linux is widely used at their cloud service and I believe it’s here to stay. I’d go with Oracle Linux.

Oracle Linux has been stable since 2006. Was always better than CentOS. Both free and paid support options since 2006. Haters don't know what they are talking about.
