Sir I just really wanna thank you for these videos. I have diagnosed OCD and ADHD, and when my glasses become crooked in even the slightest, I become incredibly hyperfixated on every contact point of them and how they feel on my face, how they look sitting on my face compared to how they feel, if I can evenly see the rim in each eye, etc, and I adjust them until I inevitably break them. Last year I went through 4 pairs of glasses. I’m not kidding, and it becomes so frustrating. Ive been going through this forever now and I’m not sure you explained these fixes that much differently than my own optometrist, but I don’t know! You’re what made it finally click. You just saved me from stress and almost breaking my nose pads off for the millionth time again. Thank you, seriously so much!

The thing about going to the optician for adjustment is that often, time spent is only a couple of minutes. However, the pain will only kick in after an hour or two of wearing them, so multiple visits and making a nuisance of yourself is simply irritating for all concerned...

Unfortunately, you're not wrong. That's a lot of the original inspiration behind doing these videos, creating more access and knowledge for all on basic adjustments 🙂 we all have off days or adjustments that aren't just quite right, or even frames that get knocked out of whack by looking at them wrong (looking at you rayban). 😂

Wow! So many places are afraid to mess with rimless and I just don’t get it… I’ve actually only held off on doing a video dedicated to rimless adjustment because some of them do require specialty pliers specific for holding the mounting to the lens to prevent damage… but you bring up a great point that a lot of these tools can be had pretty cheap if you’re willing to wait, and most people that own rimless own them for a LONG time. Maybe it’s time 🙂

My main problem was not addressed and there may not be a solution. I have a very thin bony bridge. Adjustments do not work. Oversized bridge pads do not work. I have sewn soft rubber cups over the pads, but that does not work. It works better than anything else, but still leaves a large red area that aches. My pads are adjustable. Contact lenses are out of the question for me as my eyes are deep set, and I'm 78 years old and do not want the aggravation. So other than some sort of band over my head holding the glasses off my nose, I don't know what to do. Any ideas? Thanks.

Do glasses with nosepads distribute weights differently? I am someone who finds nosepads uncomfortable and am wondering if it is because weight is all on the nose due to the pads? Thanks for all the info on your channel.
@ThatGlassesGuy03

Depends on the frames you’re comparing of course, but in general a well fitted acetate will distribute the weight over a larger area. Poor pad adjustment and pads always getting bent out of shape as well as cheap I’ll balanced frames are the most common pain points of metals, almost all of that disappears on the higher end except a few brands.

I have expensive lightweight frames and lenses and they hurt. Had them adjusted many times, I think it is the temples being too thin. With skinny temples all the weight is going to my nose. What do you think?
@ThatGlassesGuy03

Tough to say, but often times the balance is off on these types of frames, especially with higher powers making it really hard to get pressure off the nose. Not necessarily because the temples are thin.

1. The arms could be too long causing them to slide forward. 2. Put a bandaid across your nose. Then put on your glasses. Wear that for a day. See if you have less pain. The bandaid causes friction to reduce slipping. 3. You just may need a narrower bridge. This is espy true if you have a flatter nose. 4. Go to Walmart or something, try on frames until you find the perfect fit. Don’t worry about your prescription. Then go over every aspect that makes them perfect. Now compare them to your current glasses. Maybe you can find what needs to be adjusted My credentials: been wearing glasses since the age of five almost half century. Have an “unusual” prescription which makes buying glasses a challenge, and glasses heavy. Om top of the fact the best glasses for me are usually metal and I am allergic. I can wear titanium. I also have a wide face, flat nose, and super oily skin. So I’m usually forced get close enough and muddle through.

Finally got my glasses comfy then my daughter knocked them and one of the nose pieces came off. I went in thinking a quick fix which it seemed. Opticians put new nose pads on and I went on my way. This was Wednesday and it’s Friday but after I got home I felt sore, red marks where the nose pads sit. I am beyond. Frustrated. I went through this when I first got my glasses but it got better. Now I feel back to square one. I go back Tuesday to see whet can be done but I don’t have high hopes. High prescription. The three looking areas too on them. What adjustments can be made if the nose itself is off center? My narrow (15 to 16), low bridge nose sits slightly more left. As a result, the frame pulls left, and the right nose pad and right arm pulls hard against my face, and it makes entire my right side hurt. Does this mean plastic frames w/fixed nose pads are off-limits? Can I even wear wireframes w/adjustable nose pads? Hoping you can help!
@ThatGlassesGuy03

The pad arms can be shifted to offset that pretty easily. Just move each one over slightly so they're offset and the frame is centered. I wouldn't generally recommend an acetate frame with built in bridge for this unless you have a true artisan of an optician that can make it fit properly (there are a variety of ways to do it, but way too complex for yourube diy)

That’s tougher to manage and finding alternate ways to make the fit work (or finding alternate frame options that don’t rely primarily on the ears to sit level) are required here. That’s a more advanced skill set than the average optician can usually muster (though most will readily accept the challenge). There are some brands that can work really well here like specialized swissflex frames or some wilder stuff from parasite eyewear.

@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Жыл бұрын
Sorry alaynac, you're not entirely correct here, but it depends on the fit of the frame and the power of the lenses. 1mm of movement in any direction will create roughly 0.1D of prism power for every diopter of lens power. On average just snipping off pads can drop a frame over 6mm. Creating the affect of almost a diopter of yoked prism (not inherently bad) for even as low as 1DIopter of power. I'll also go further to say the nose pads have very little to do with keeping your glasses from sliding off, except in the role they play in keeping the frame properly balanced so it isn't front heavy and impossible to keep on (yet another reason not to remove them... dropping the front that far down will absolutely end with the glasses always slipping). As for Chris.. I wouldn't advise it due to the points above. Find another pad/adjustment combination that works for you, or just get a new frame all together without pads :) if nothing else, the frame will be horribly uncomfortable in this state.

It’s a metal frame with pads but hurting the top of your bridge? Sounds like a bad fit all around if the metal bridge is sitting on your nose. This is one that’s really hard to say without seeing what’s going on, as it could be as simple as a balance issue on the frame and a quick tweak to take some of the weight off the front. But there may be a lot more going on here if it’s that sensitive.

What if you get pressure point on the top of the nose not from pads but the frame touching ?
@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Жыл бұрын
Just a bad fit overall if that’s the case. Sometimes this can be fixed by adjusting the balance point of the frame, or tweaking the pad area, that’s assuming you’re talking about a plastic frame with no pads? Or if it’s a frame with pads and the frame itself is touching your nose the pads need some MAJOR tweaking to be back to normal and fit properly. Usually in that case they’re flattened close to the frame and spread way too wide. Bring them back in and up and then adjust to the nose itself. This one’s a bit tougher without seeing it.

I just bought the an edge 1613 from your website that has been sold out every where in the Bond color way. How are you able to get those glasses and sell them for MSRP. It making me worry that these glasses won’t be real

Because I'm an authorized retailer for Vuarnet, our license with them dictates we must sell at MSRP. Feel free to search for vuarnet retailer in Chattanooga TN. You'll find I have the real chops 🤪😎.

As far as the how I get them, I have just enough ranking to be the result people find once Vuarnet sells out, so I stock a lot of their more popular styles pretty deeply, and in the event of an oversell (i.e. from the webstore and in-store inventories not automatically matching) we fill as soon as new stock comes in from France. 🖤💛🖤 I'm quite partial to the Bond Colorway in the 1613 either way 🤣. Loved it before I knew Daniel Craig wore it, and it has been a staple in the store since the day I opened, but since no time to die launched... they've been especially hard to keep on hand! I've reordered multiple times since the film landed in theaters. Sheesh. 🤣

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 just got the glasses and I love them… I was hoping that the lenses wouldn’t be a shiny silver because the ones the bond wore we much more black. Other than that I was wondering what the purpose of the leather string was on the case. I want to tuck them in the case but then there is no space for the sunglasses. As of now they are taped together and hanging on the outside of the case. I would’ve much rather preferred the navy blue traditional case that comes with most of the Vuarnet glasses

@@jumbotruster9165 that's their brand new case. It's MUCH better than what we had all of last year 🤢. It's meant to sling over the shoulder... if it were mine thay would be cut off near instantly 🤣. Im positive I mention this in my review of the new glacier 🤣. As for the bond lenses it's due to lighting. IN some scenes in the jet you can actually see the silver on the top and bottom of the lenses. It's pretty rare it comes up though because they're still pretty darn dark 🙂

A one size fits all saddle bridge fits on all or any type of glasses, slip it on for a few hours of relief or wear all day. Rinse off occasionally when you wash your hands for optimal grip and cleanliness. Internal wire to hold its shape and easy to adjust for maximum comfort. I make my own and you can too. Maybe I should get on TV and sell my homemade solutions. Tell me again why we let crazy folks tell us what to do and mandate their ideas as if they are the boss, and not we the people?

😂 ok bud. Just giving some friendly advice for PROPER fit. Not back end hack solutions. By all means, build a youtube channel and show people your "solution" it very well could help some with no alternatives. I'm just a little fish in the big ole sea myself, sharing the knowledge I've gained over many years in the industry working on thousands of pairs of glasses for even more people. 😉 I should add for those looking a saddle bridge is not the end all solution either, but for a poor balance or overweight pair of glasses is a potential bypass... which I do mention in one of these videos as well, we typically use them for glass lenses in frames not designed to balance the excess weight.

@ThatGlassesGuy03
@ThatGlassesGuy03 Жыл бұрын
Maybe if you hadn’t been rude about getting an answer Sergio ;). And just as I’ve explained to you before. At this point it’s about the overall balance and design. You mentioned in your case the pads are spread out as wide as they can go, that’s a problem. With the pads as wide as they’ll go and the nose dropped down, most of the weight of the frame is resting on the bridge. Your options here are adjust that so the nose is back higher and putting some of the weight back onto the ears, raising the temples upwards and adding retroscopic tilt to being the balance point rearward, or selecting another frame that better fits you and balanced properly with lenses mounted 😎. Good luck Dylan!

I appreciate you making this video but you're only talking about nose pads instead of telling us how to remove nose dents and get our nose back in shape. By the way did you know that glasses can distort and change the nose shape of a chld leading that child to have a crooked nose? It happened to my sister and I'm so upset about glasses and I got dent marks which not only left dark pigmented marks on my nose bridge but it also flattened my nose bone/cartilage to some degree that it looks bad. To anyone looking to avoid such things I recommend using something else than glasses. Glasses are bad.

I respect people who wear glasses and people who don't wear them. Among the many positive effects of glasses, I wanted to point out that they can also have negative effects, especially in regards to what they did to my sister and me. Do you think my heart doesn't ache while seeing how the tiny beautiful nose of mu little sister got crooked? My heart aches and I feel like crying for her. Do you think I enkoy habing dents on my nose?
