Our only female western diamondback gets her new cage. Look at how red her color is, hence the name "blood diamond." I am really excited about these snakes and seeing if the red color can be passed on genetically.

It still amazes me how many gorgeous snakes there are in this world, and they ALL deserve to be treated with care and respect, venomous and non-venomous. That red color and the black and white, just another work of art by nature :o)

@jakespaid39697 жыл бұрын
I agree the red on her is unreal. whats your feeding method for a venomous snake like that?
@OlympusReptiles7 жыл бұрын
Jake Spaid since she was wild caught, she is fed live. weekly right now. I monitor to make sure she deals with prey item. but, she still won't swallow in front of me so I have to leave the room for twenty minutes lol. she currently takes small rats.
@jakespaid39697 жыл бұрын
Thats really coo! So being wild caught whats the likelihood of transitioning her to F/T
@OlympusReptiles7 жыл бұрын
Jake Spaid it is possible, but I want to keep her eating so not in a big hurry. she also dispatches the prey really quickly, so not a lot of suffering.

I think this is a super cool unique hobby to have and I thank you for sharing it with us. Are you trying to promote the keeping and caring of venomous snakes? Or is it purely just entertainment?
@OlympusReptiles7 жыл бұрын
scooked films more just showing what I got, lol. I guess you could say I promote the keeping of them, as long as it is done properly and safely. I think we have the right to do as we wish as long as it doesn't hurt others, or animals. however, this isn't for everyone and one should seek knowledge and experience prior to doing this.

So is she going to be in a permanent state of defense everytime she sees a human through the glass or will she ever calm down?
@OlympusReptiles6 жыл бұрын
Hannah Chalk she has calmed alot, with me. Others, not do much
@firearmsfelons6 жыл бұрын
Hannah Chalk they do get to recognize their keeper & normally ease up SOME with time... I've got a couple that are just always pricks to work with, but even those ones will relax in normal cage settings, but are still a handful when you've gotta work with them directly... I also have some that are total Pussy Cats to work with too... Each snake carries it's own individual attitude, but even the pls I'd ones can have their anti-social days...
