I once dried green beans in my car parked outside. Actually sewed them on a thread and hung thread like clothesline across back seat, each end on coat hanger deal above back doors. 👵🏼🐞

Very innovative! Some people do hot peppers that way too, stringing and hanging them up indoors.

We are creating an off grid homestead, but my main concern was good preservation. This will be a huge help to limit our solar needs. I'm wondering where you are located though? We have humidity in South Carolina so I'm not sure if that will effect it
@TheMintedMaiden
@TheMintedMaiden 2 жыл бұрын
I’m in southern idaho, it’s extremely dry here. The humidity may have an affect but if you choose sunny, breezy days and keep your food cut into small/thin pieces it will probably still work.

We live in Cyprus, and use home grown ingredients in our handmade soaps. This is a great idea as puree in soap takes forever to harden. Dried and ground is our way forward. Thanks for showing. Please check out our soaps we sell to fund our dog sanctuary.❤

Greetings Miss Minted Maiden! I want to know if it is possible to dry meat & fish in this type of dehydrator. Looking forward to your reply, thanks :-)
@TheMintedMaiden
@TheMintedMaiden 3 жыл бұрын
You’d want to look into more traditional, open-air meat preserving methods! You may be able to use a tool similar to mine, but apply other techniques such as salting. I believe there are plenty of ways that this has been done for hundreds of years by indigenous people and others. I’m sure the addition of salt helps with the preservation but really might want to look more in those directions. I believe there are still cultures today that hang cure meat and fish. I hope that helps.

Concerning canning. Don't buy old canning cookbooks. Their safe processing information is out of date. Stick with the Ball canning book and government food preservation websites such as the University of Georgia.

It dries a lot faster in the sun. If you have hot, dry weather, it can dry in the shade ok. But sun really speeds it up.
