Don't make fun of me. Born in 1990. My first CD was KoRn Issues when I was around 10 years old.. I liked a lot of the Nu Metal when I was a kid. Around 12 I started exploring more of the classic Metal.. Metallica, Ozzy, Dio Sabbath, Maiden etc. by 13 with the Internet I was on a full blown exploratory deep dive into metal and all of it's sub genres. Black, Death, Power, Thrash and more and more Heavy Metal. Jon, you got me into Yngwie Malmsteen and Candlemass when I was in highschool for which I cannot thank you enough. Some of my favorite bands of all time now.

I was in 3rd grade and I was at a friends house and he says This what you call HARD ROCK and he played Foghats Fool for the City ..and that was it .. after that he introduced me to Cheap Trick , Aerosmith and first Van Halen album .. I discovered a local station called KZEW .. The Zoo was a hard rock station..fast forwarded to junior high and The Zoo would play midnight album every Wednesday night .. gosh I recorded everything from Triumph Allied Forces , Crue Shout at the Devil , Zeppelin 2 , first Loverboy Album , Hendrix Are you Experienced and ZZ Top Eliminator.. I could go on and on .. good times ..

Freshman year of high school (1990). There were these upper classmen wearing Slayer, Metallica and Megadeth shirts and I thought they were the coolest guys in the school, you know the look long hair, skinny, tight jeans, looked a little bit scary and guys you didn't want to mess with. At the time I was literally listening to MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, 2 Live Crew (LOL) but I knew I had to up my music game. I wasn't nearly cool enough to talk to any of those guys, but somehow hooked up with another freshman who sold me pirated cassette tapes for $2.50. He basically educated and ramped me 0-60 on metal, not just Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, but also the "classics" Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, & Ozzy (for a charge! $2.50 per tape). I remember being impressed right from the get go that for metal, music from 70's-80's seemed just as relevant as stuff just coming out. Different from pop music I was used to where anything is no longer cool after less than a year.

When I was 11 me and my friend destroyed his bunk beds and bedroom listening to Kiss Hotter Than Hell. That was the beginning of my love for heavy music.

Great memories. I was actually a college radio DJ in the early 90s and had a metal show called Energy Rock. The time of my life!

For me music started in about 81/82, listening to my older sister’s record albums-Loverboy, Cliff Richard, Journey, Aldo Nova, etc. I would’ve been about 8 or 9 at this point. Circa 1983, is when my love for hard rock and metal took off. Cruising around Grand Forks, ND in my older buddy’s Camero as we listened to this brand new album by this brand new band called Dokken! I got to the point of annoyance constantly asking Dave to rewind the tape to play Breaking the Chains! From there, we were off to the races-Quiet Riot, Ratt, Crue, Twisted Sister, etc. Fond memories.

Tony's childhood sounds like mine, the first album I ever got was a Elvis. My mom loved her some Elvis and Ronnie McDowell. I remember riding by tape city as well lol.

I think I bought Paranoid in 85, probably remembered it from TV or radio. Ozzy got played on WBAB in NY. The DJ "Fingers" KISS was his band.

Doctor Eddie Ganja Here I got into Rock music at a young age The 2 Bands that blew me away were Deep Purple and Black Sabbath my all time favorite band since 1974 after seeing both those bands on ABCs Entertainment world In Concert 1984 California Jam First album I ever bought was Made in Japan by Deep Purple then I got into Aerosmith and Kiss Them UFO ACDC Judas Priest Hell Bent for Leather Right now I'm Wearing a Black Sabbath shirt that has the photo of The Neon Knights videos Saw The Black and Blue Tour 1980 Sabbath Blue Oyster Cult and Riot I recently bought CarCannedys book Tales of a Wild Dog love The Rods Riot I also have this pin on my shirt that has a skull smoking a joint it says Weed and Heavy Metal I'm 59 years old and Love metal to this day Keep Rocking

My gateway to being a Metal-Head was 1983 with MTV and Def Leppard Pyromania and buying my first album High 'n' Dry. Metal Health, Shout at the Devil, Lick it Up, Defenders of the Faith and The Blitz got me hooked. 1983/84 was a great time to get started.

I live in the Netherlands, belong to your generation and have experienced a slightly different history. I think we were more focussed on UK and Europe. I started with Kiss ( Who didn't) in 1979, Cheap Trick, ACDC and Status Quo. Long hair, distorted guitars were important. Some bands shared the looks, like Ram Jam or Van Halen, they had smashing hits in Europe. In 1980 Iron Maiden broke through, but metal in our country was very underground, little airplay. Ozzy, Quiet Riot and Motley Crue were never big stars here. I grew up with nwobhm: Saxon, Def Leppard, Raven, Venom.

My earliest Metal memory was seeing the cover of my uncles Run to The Hills single when I was 9, the first album I bought with my own money was Saxons Rock the Nations.

Man, it's nice seeing Tony again. I'm from his neck of the woods and ran into him often at record shows and concerts. I've been out of the active music scene for a while now because 'life interruptus', and no more room for expanding my collection (I collected books too).

Seeing hendrix on the news the day he died - i was seven - finding the guitar and hendrix / and losing him in the same moment was confusing for a kid - they said electric guitarist jimi hendrix has died today - in my seven year olds mind - i thought he was the only one who could get it to work on electricity !!! lol - the rest had those crappy wooden things acoustic guitars - only yesterday i was listening radio 1 sessions - i still worship him to this day -

earliest memories eh .., would have to be when I was 13 or so before my uncle went to the army .., I always looked up to him and he had albums of Saxon , Priest , Sabbath .., but when I really got into metal was when my parents tried going back to South America , I was 15 and it was confusing times .., I just wanted to come back to Canada .., there was this kid in school there who lent me a new album that came out .., Maiden's Somewhere In Time .., I never looked back .., it was there I felt how the power of metal can help you get through shit ..,
