The bit where Armin mentions the flowers not being there before is a translation error. In the original Japanese Armin points out that the flowers only survived inside the titan skeleton, showing that Erin saved them from the cannon by holding them inside his skeleton, as the plant life outside the skeleton died, but the plant life inside survived. Basically just cementing the fact that they'd all have been dead had he not hulked out.

When you rewatch this episode, after you finish the series, pay attention to the closeups. Who gets a closeup. What's going on at the time. What's their expression.
