I don't know how controversial it is to say this but i like that Blackbeard and Bonnet actually REALLY get their hands dirty this season, fighting and even killing when necessary. The idea of nerfing them as pirates by having the crew do all the bloody work would have taken some of the thunder out of "fearsome gay pirates" aspect that I love about this story, imho. Also, that shot of Ed rising up out of the water is ART...

I'm not good with killing and violence AT ALL, there's already too much of it in the fucking real world. I wish they would just make love. But well ... the happiness on Ed's face when he reads Stede's letter to him is worth millions. Like the sun's rising. I'm perfectly good with that, and that they're opting for inn-keeping at the end.

I agree! The (often) ridiculous & exaggerated violence reminds you that it’s a show about outcasts who live this dangerous lifestyle and form lovely relationships anyways. I also don’t understand how people don’t remember the violence in season 1 and somehow thought this show was somehow violence free

I was doing fine watching this scene for the first time until I realized that both Ed and Stede's voices were reciting the letter and they finished reading it together on "we wrote our names on each other in permanent ink". Taika's acting was SO GOOD, when his eyes softened and he was holding back tears and said "This is lovely"... I FELT THAT IN MY SOUL. It was so genuine and sweet. And when he yelled "YOU WROTE ME A LOVELY LETTER", I died. Sometimes I yell when I am passionate about something. It was so relatable.

He's dissociating during that moment. Just like he's done in the past. I think it's a really important moment and shows how affected he is at seeing the destruction and thinking he lost everyone - particularly Stede.

We're all going to avoid thinking that there's no way Ed could have gotten this far in such a short amount of time to not hear the explosions of more than a dozen ships, because the scene is too emotional and romantic. Edit: I forgot that a man turned into a bird and La vie en rose was sung 200 years before it was composed. obviously, this show is not completely accurate and we love it for that.

Unfortunately the plot is rushed due to only 8 episodes instead of 10 like in season 1. But I don’t blame David Jenkins etc, he did his best with the time he got - but it’s always all about money (budget) and that sucks 😣
@liol3409
@liol3409 7 ай бұрын
@@stefanieschneider1416 Yes I agree. One thing is to use fantastic situations or make deliberate anachronies to make the story more poetic. Another thing is not having enough episodes so that the characters' actions develop in the appropriate time and do not lose credibility. Unfortunately this is an underrated show. At least we had a second season.

@@supernaturalhunter1352 I do know that the actual historical Blackbeard was likely a wealthy, educated man, able to read and write. However, OFMD went in a completely different direction and showed him to have been a destitute child growing up with an alcoholic father and a mother who was struggling just to put food on the table. Growing up in such a family, he probably would have had no access to education. Besides, in s01e05 (the one where they go to the fancy party with all those nobles) Ed is shown as very keen to know what the written invitation says, but doesn't actually read the invitation: Stede reads it to him. In s01x09 he signs with a cross (no way that has anything to do with having to sign under duress). That's something that only a person who can't write would do.
