I just wish we saw the party continuing after the torturing! Izzy singing La Vie en Rose in full makeup is one of the best things in the show!!

Wait does this mean that in the show Izzy canonically invented la vie en rose? I don't think it already existed in 1717

"she needed more soft in her life and I see that now. I just don't do soft" I love this admission that Olu has a love language that she needs but auntie just isn't equipped to provide properly. If Olu in the first episode of the season had told her to be softer she'd have killed him outright. Such good writing

This show fully understands it's fans. Feels like it hasn't really capitalised on us enough. I want a lego set! I want merch! I want a dvd with extras and cut scenes and outtakes! I want this to be a viable model for shows to be built on

I still think this is the controversial opinion in the fandom, but I'll say it anyway. This scene went totally against Stede's character. The crew had basically recovered, and Stede proved that violence didn't have to necessarily be solved through more violence. And once Ned was tied up, he was no longer a threat; none of his crew died or had lasting injuries that we know of, except Stede and Ed's brands. But other than that, there was no permanent damage. So why kill Ned? After all, the shit-talk and torture played out humorously, as most violence in the show is. The crew is saved, everyone is happy, right? Stede sure looked happy during the party, feeling like a more confident captain. So why is there any need for him to prove himself through killing, especially when Ed clearly doesn't want him to? If it was to defend Ed and his crew, that still doesn't match with Stede's earlier actions this season. If Stede cared for his crew, then why didn't Ed face more punishment for attempting to kill all of them? He left half of the crew for dead, the other half he put through living hell. And he basically physically and mentally tortured Izzy. But Ed got a pass, barely had to apologize and was forgiven almost instantly. Stede didn't defend his crew then, so why now? For Stede to kill Ned (after all his previous actions and attitudes towards death, as well as his confidence both around Ed and the crew) is at least highly hypocritical, at most against the tone and characters of the show completely. Cold blooded murder was not the only option when it comes to defending the crew. I'll never forget watching this for the first time; my heart just sunk. To me, this ruined my favorite character in the show. And he only got worse in the next episodes, too. I hold the ending of ep 5 forever in my heart, because to me that's where the show ended. I know others might disagree, that's how I interpreted things.

The scene from when Izzy appears is my favourite bit of this entire episode. His little "congratulations" sent me 😂 also that way he seemingly overlooks Stede's "You could inform me, on deck." with his "aye, aye - also..." Not to mention that little grin, Con is wearing the *entire* time 😆

I love Stede’s face reacting to “We’re whim prone, as you said.” 1:05 He looks gutted, thinking “dammit I did say that! And now I want the whim!” But he listens and understands and gets past his whim.

I could have watched multiple episodes of these two just bickering their way into friendship. They just work. And if Izzy had taken his shirt off again, i would have been ok with that also.

I love this show, I really do, but Ed did some truly awful things that I feel like the show glossed over for the sake of getting things back to status quo. Like, they can’t have Stede swooning over him if the crew is horrified by him, so they MUST all forgive and forget or it’ll ruin the romance. They HAD to keep Lucius alive because that would be an act that Stede could never forgive. I love Ed, but he shot Izzy, tortured him, terrorized the crew, and it makes me a little uncomfortable with how it’s handled. It’s just moved past far too quickly for my liking, but I get they had a shortened season.

Struck me that Ed and Izzy have a complicated relationship, part friendship/family and toxicity. They fed the darkness in each other, till Ed became a force of nature Izzy couldnt control. They were a friendship that waxxed and waned accordingly. But saw the goodness still in each other. The budget cuts and cancellation reminds me of what HBO did to Rome, too rushed and Izzys death was clearly meant for series 3, but I'm so glad i saw the series we got in it's wonderful beauty

Honestly one of the darkest sequences I've seen on screen. Plenty of shows and movies can pull off dark and disturbing but not with this much obvious heart behind it. There are cries for help but Ed was absolutely crying for death since the moment Stede left
