I agree with Garnt's theory. When things are simplistic and small, it's a lot easier for them to be enjoyable. Around 2014 is when things started to grow rapidly and more and more companies and money were pouring into social medias with youtube getting bought by google and others having the same thing happen. This created a divide from the website itself and the people who use it. It's like going from a farmer and a village chief, where the village chief knows everyone in the village personally, to an emperor and one of his many subjects. Might be a weird analogy but I think it holds up.

I remember when I used to watched Britain's Got Talent, and in the semi-finals one year there was this guy who would balance on a wooden plank resting on a free moving cylinder with no support, and over the course of his act he would continuously build this tower underneath him from chairs or scrap which became more and more perilous, all while staying perfectly balanced, occasionally pretending to fall. Then his glamourous assistant would set fire to the tower and chuck him an electric guitar which he struck a few power chords on to close out the act. He didn't make the final because more people voted for the carbon copy kids dance troupe act you see half a dozen of every year. Then I stopped watching Britain's Got Talent.

Connor isn’t weird - that’s how the vast majority of us feel. People with extreme opinions are far more likely to broadcast them, then other people pretend to agree for internet points and /or to avoid public shaming. So it badly skews the picture of what people actually believe. In reality, most people are reasonable and can agree on common sense and basic ethics, it’s just that we all think we’re alone in a sea of maniacs.

The whole "mid" conversation made me realise how much our ratings have become compressed. Personally, when I used to maintain a MAL account I only ever rated anything from 5-9. If it was 5 or under it got dropped or never even got a chance in the first place. And I only gave like 2 or 3% of anime I watched a 10. So realistically I was rating on a 5 point system instead of a 10 point system, and I think a lot of other people do too.

The harsh truth is, nothing is definitively right or wrong, but many people are only interested in right and wrong, say if Trump actually tell you all the pros and cons of building a Mexican border wall, calls the public to study more into the subject and decide whether his idea is worth supporting, most people would lose their mind, pro-Trump people would be confused by some of the implications that they have never think before and that its not a perfect solution, while anti-Trump people would have to accept the fact that they need to look into his reasoning rather than calling him racist, given that they are genuinely interested in the matter. A big portion of voters would rather believe in slogans (that includes "the counterparty is wrong") than to think about all the reasoning and implications behind a simple option of for or against, and we give ourselves the excuse of not looking into important matters, like being busy from work, despite holding the most important type of power within the political system.

Addiction is more of a “reward system” more than cognitive knowing it’s a threat. It’s very psychological and has to due to dopamine levels that make you experience a sensation you first felt when doing an action, in a sense chasing that high. A lot of people struggle with addiction because the more they want to experience that high, the more tolerance they develop and thus the more they need to do that action to get near that high that they will never experience again. Its very hard to control, and I hope those who need the help get what they need.

Connor worrying about his head when he loses his hair is 100% relatable. I had a VERYYY thick head of hair until I hit 30 and then it basically all fell out in about a year. I tried to keep it grown out because I wasn't ready to shave it. I finally caved and I look so much better than the patchy hair I was holding on to. Connor has good facial hair, so he'll be fine. It's definitely weird at first to like not feel a bunch of hair in your face or in your hand, but end of day if your barber is good they'll make you look good. Also my barber told me I should bleach and then toner my hair when it's shaved down because it'll look more even and is trendy right now.

I think what we often don’t realize and the scary thing about addiction is that sometimes people don’t feel they _are_ addicted. “Well I can still function. I can go to work, have relationships, etc. I’m not addicted.”. We kinda don’t think something is an addiction until it gets really really bad. I always hear stories about people who became alcoholics; they started drinking just as a way of rewarding themselves. They genuinely don’t realize it until it’s pointed out to them.
@jellycatfish
@jellycatfish 2 жыл бұрын
Alcoholism doesn't necessarily have a link with the quantity of alcohol you're consuming anyways, and that applies to other types of addiction as well. Someone who absolutely needs to drink one beer a day to function in their daily life is considered addicted to it. Obviously as you mentioned, yes, addiction can really sneak on you until it gets out of control and you have no other choice but to face it. But it's also deeply ingrained into how much it affects your daily life if you don't consume X substance, media, etc.
@pennyinheaven
@pennyinheaven 2 жыл бұрын
@@jellycatfish I think it's the best way determine addiction. It's when you don't do it or have it, and then feel like it's the end of the world or one cannot function anymore. You get anxious and worse have some kind of break down just because you didn't get to do that particular thing in a certain time or within the day.
@AliceChVTube
@AliceChVTube 2 жыл бұрын
Yup, it also sneaks up on you. I was addicted to opiates, mainly heroin and it started as something really cheap, it was great. The highs cost pretty much nothing, there was no hangover and I'd just do it once every two weeks or so. But that became "might as well do it on the weekends!" and "and other days off... okay friday too" and so forth, until you're doing it every single day. It sneaks up and can happen SO fast.
@erika8349
@erika8349 2 жыл бұрын
It’s really hard for addicts to get out of it too ): A family friend suffered from being an alcoholic and the doctors warned her that she would die if she didn’t quit. She went to rehab I think twice but always fell back into depression and started drinking. One day her mother passed away and she died drinking herself to death a few months later. My mom knew it would kill her one day but there was nothing she could say or do to make her stop. That’s why it’s important for people to be careful and be self-aware when consuming food, drinks, prescriptions, or content that is not “good” for you. Meaning, if it negatively affects your mental or physical health, your job, your personal life, family, etc. then you need to stop and see a medical professional.

The thing with “agree to disagree” is that it’s only valid on opinions like ‘which pie filling is better’ or ‘winter is the worst season’. But people try to use the agree to disagree argument on peoples rights to live. Agree to disagree doesn’t apply to human rights. You can’t ‘disagree’ with a person existence. The polarization on just about any topic is probably due to social media algorithms that, by their nature, create echo chambres simply by how they function. When someone leans toward an extreme mentality. It comes from a place of feeling like their issues and problems are ignored and want to be acknowledged and it comes with its benefits when they can find others who feel the same about the issue. The problem comes from themselves or others, dismissing their view points or put their problems on a tier list and devalue them for it. That leads to them doubling down and both sides point at the other as the problem. They feel like the other side is an enemy and those in the middle are all about compromise because now, they are to staunchly against the opposing side to want to see any points the others have be validated or the middle ground just tries to keep the status quo that only makes the middle look like apologists at best. Leaning hard comes with the risk of dehumanizing others and convincing ones self that the ends justify the means. The ones in the middle tend to see the dehumanizing harsh extremes of the opposing view points and tend to understand and feel for both sides, but run the risk of being apathetic to the issue in order to appease everyone. Which does not satisfy anyone. But when done right. Middle ground and balanced view points are not actually the middle. They are just in between the opposing sides of the argument. The reality is that when we put our emotions before the other person. We do the same apathetic devaluing of others as those we chastise. It does not matter if its religion, politics, racial issues, gender issues, or even just day to day stances on random stuff we cannot agree on. Assuming the worst in the other person or looking down on them for their opinion is the first step to your own self fulfilling hypocrisy if your not careful. But we are not perfect, and we all slip up from time to time. But that does not mean we need to be demonized for it, or the cycle just starts all over again. This is why its so easy for people to be manipulated when those that see the bigger picture want to profit from others, instead of wanting everyone to prosper Sorry for the long post. I just want to help try and bring a nuanced perspective as best I could

While I generally agree with what you said, I find it really hard to keep an open mind and seek compromise with people who cannot give me a simple answer to the question "What is a woman?" and have successfully passed laws that compel me to use pronouns that do not match the biological sex of the person who I am to address, under pain of losing my job, getting fined and possibly sent to jail, all the while my kids are being encouraged at every opportunity to explore sexual deviancy at the ripe of all age of 7 in the far-left indoctrination centers we used to call schools, against my will and, until recently, knowledge. I was partial to letting gay people marry and have a merry old of time of it. I wanted to live in an inclusive, tolerant and diverse world. I wanted to end racism and make the rules fair for everybody, I wanted us to plan carefully for the future so we don't wreck the environment for the sake of short term profits, I wanted to believe in a world brought closer together by the marvel of the internet, for cultural barriers to crumble, for people from all around the world to recognize each other's humanity and get along. Instead all I got was a bunch of left wing fanatics with foolish ideas asking for my complete obedience and submission. I get cancelled for daring to suggest a teenaged girl should not bind her chest so tightly as to crush her ribs in an effort to flatten her breasts and "become a man". I cared for that girl's safety and future, I made my plea respectfully, and they called me a bigot and kicked me out of the echo chamber for my troubles. One day, any day now, a new hire could show up at my workplace and demand I betray my understanding of Truth, that I call a woman "he", or a man "she", when I KNOW it is not so, when I know it is not right. And should I refuse, my boss would have little choice but to fire me on the spot to avoid the Wrath of the Left. Another time I simply stated I believe human life begins at conception, and that while I cannot prevent abortions from occurring in a country in which it is wildly accepted, I for one, would not encourage any woman to murder her own, and wouldn't have married one who would consider it an option to do so. Apparently now I hate women because I don't want little girls to die in the wombs of their mothers. Those who dehumanize human life at its earliest stages dare claim I wish to treat women as little more than factories for my progeny. Yet another time, I dared suggest that black people should stop devaluing education as a "white value" (To be clear, many black people value education, but far far too many reject it "because that's what white folks do, stop being so white.") I thought those were self-defeating racist views they held, and that they should abandon them and recognize a good education is priceless for anyone of any race. And they called me racist, of course, for my trouble. See I tried to be reasonable, I think. To give every side a fair hearing, to parse truths from lies, to be respectful and patient and considerate. To speak my mind with no ill intent. I gave it my most honest effort, and every single time, I am met with fanatical anger and utter rejection. I cannot bridge that giant chasm which has formed between the two halves of Western Civilisation. There doesn't seem to be a middle that is compatible with the "Mainstream Left" anymore. They have radicalized, so completely and utterly, that it's become really difficult to see them as anything but a twisted monolith of raw insanity and hatred, which at some point in the distant past might have stood for something decent, but has long since jumped the shark. Meanwhile conservatives, the "other side", while not perfect themselves, are speaking common sense and decency most of the time. The choice seems rather clear to me at this point. The picture rather clean. There is a chasm. On one side there is a nightmarish godless fantasia or dead babies, Orwellian aspirations of reality subversion and thought policing, punctuated by hatred of the self and everything good and decent I have ever known... And on the other side it every sane human left on Earth, who may be liberal, may be conservative, or completely apolitical, but still all able to answer a simple question such as "What is a woman?" And still willing to have an engaging discussion and respect my views even when they diverge from mine in some respects. I dare hope the people on the other side of the Chasm are still human enough to be saved from themselves. I hope they won't drag us into open war, and force me to shed my blood and theirs for the right to live in this world. But right now, it's looking rather grim. My words cannot reach them. They have much power and much will to use it to bully everyone into submission, and it seems they won't be satisfied until I and others like me cease to exist altogether.

@@liwendiamond9223 That's the thing. You cannot devalue people at all. Even when they do, or your no better a person then they are and only keep the cycle going. Its hard at times but giving up only helps keep the divide growing. You cannot just point fingers, because the problems you see are the same to them of you, from their perspective. From the other side. They might see all the flaws from your end but fail to see their own. The only difference you can make is holding an olive branch regardless. Its hard to see you having a moral high ground if you end up villainizing them the same way they do to you, and I get it. I get put in a narrative all the time but the hardest pill people like that have to swallow is when you defend yourself without antagonizing them for making you out to be the villain and they will want to bait you with an angry retaliation speech. Because if you give them the same hate filled spite back. You only justify them the same way your justifying yourself to view them. Not to mention if your engagement is mostly online. Then yes you will get toxic attitudes back. Since many are probably young and don't know how to argue, or those that rely on the veil the internet gives them to express their emotionally driven opinions openly. Many of whom, fail to see the irony of them getting mad at you for expressing your opinion. Even though one is entitled to their opinion. That does not mean that there free of criticism. Boy have I had my fair share when I open my mouth in critique of others opinion or those who challenge my own. But despite that. There are people that care. Who do want to talk openly without toxic attitudes. The problem is that we have political factions that prey on our fear and stoke our hate and pretend to care about our well being, while pushing the idea that the other side is unreasonable and convincing those in their fold that the ends justify the means. Even if it imposes on the "Others" rights. It happens for both sides when you consider the "Freedom" we are supposed to have and see if its being applied to the people of opposing viewpoint. Which seems to be something that people you deal with don't like to hear. Its a hard pill to swallow. But that pill can be handed right back to you the moment you give up on people. You are just as important as anyone else. Regardless of how they treat you. But remember that both sides hold the same flaws if they both claim to be for everyone's benefit, yet put down others "To take back OUR freedom, They are not real (insert your plural country associated word here)". Compromise is never met not just because of the left. But also because the right has just as hard a time seeing eye to eye and... I realize I almost started quoting Eye to Eye from A Goofy Movie (Talk about mood whiplash, I am a dork) I don't mean to be assumptive. This is just something that I can relate too but understand that peoples minds can change. When you don't antagonize or give in to being antagonized. It's really hard to see the good that comes of it but remember that the most toxic within a group are not the ones making laws. Nothing is written in stone and its not as though we cannot change things for the better!

The game became real when corporation proved the internet is profitable. The polarisations, the social media bots and content farms, the arms race find the next anger piece to undermine each other, are all traditional media's way of doing things. Individuals are also to blame for being polarised, but in our algorithm driven platform, it's much harder for individuals make level headed decisions in this climate. The internet didn't become more of a shitshow. The internet just got the respect it deserved, and as a result, it reflects what we do in real life, except, like Connor said, everyone are given a platform, including those who is traditionally revels in the tribal mentality.

It was an incoming problem before algorithms took over everything, or at least to the degree the run stuff now. I don't wanna be that guy but I saw it coming 10+ years ago, a process called cyberbalkanization or now known as the splinternet; which is the segregation of the Internet into smaller groups with similar interests, to a degree that they show a narrow-minded approach to outsiders or those with contradictory views. It was almost inevitable and it's crazy watching it come to pass and the ramifications it's had on real life, really sad. One of the big problems is its the 10% who are most vocal and speak for the group when if you removed that 10% I think you would find a more diverse lot of opinions rather than what most often devolves into diatribes.

There also seems to be this idea online that if you DON’T identify with a major party that you’re not contributing enough or something along those lines I detest both modern parties so for the sake of argument i usually say I’m an independent or a centrist, taking ideas from both that I find fitting. This isn’t complicated yet i can’t count the amount of times I’ve said this and people end up finding it weird Might just be the people im around but it seems way to common place from where ive been

1:18:20 they kinda did that actually. I remember there was this 3 part crossover between pawn stars, its spin-off american restoration and a third one about two men who go throuhg america finding old stuff. It was this big storyline about finding, buying and restoring a vintage car that was the dream car of the old man from pawn stars. All as a gift for his 70th birthday.

The thing with Jujutsu Kaisen Vs Demon Slayer is that Mugen Train was an actual arc in the middle of the story. For me I enjoyed Jujutsu Kaisen 0 more than Mugen Train purely because although it felt less significant to the overall story, the movie itself was just pure fan service for fans like me and it give a slight insight into how some side characters were like before the main story of JJK but not only that even people who has never seen JJK can enjoy it somewhat. Compared to Mugen Train, while it was a good movie it made the airing of the first arc of season 2 of Demon Slayer completely irrelevant to people like me say except the first episode.

The interesting thing about the KZfaq rewind is that in hindsight all the KZfaq rewinds were about as bad as eachother. The last one wasn't particularly bad tbh. The reality at least as far as I can tell is that, that was the point where KZfaq got too big to have a few KZfaqrs who represent the platform. Most of the people there were indeed big enough to be there but if you were in any one community if felt like your biggest moments were missed out on.
