The beginning of our journey, take a look at our Colorado mountain property and the first few jobs that required the most resources to get our Colorado off grid homestead started.
So many big projects to tackle at the beginning of building a homestead; we plan to build a timberframe home as part of our vision.
We've collected an entire "Store" of the products, tools and materials we use to help us get the job done!
Check them out here;

We knew this would have some significant expenses, but what do you think we really need to budget for next?

Hello! We're starting out in Nunn, CO. Our biggest expense is the well. Almost $50k!

@@chaoticdriver, for this kind of price tag, I would most definitely look into alternative water sources.

I love Colorado. I was fortunate that I was able to go to a Young Life Ranch in Buena Vista Co. Instead of heading to the beach after graduating from high school I thought that would have been a "better trip" and got to see some beautiful lands. I am a musician and some of my favorite musicians lived and worked out of parts of Colorado. One of my favorite singer/songwriters was Dan Fogelberg. He had a house- Mountain Bird House In Pagosa Springs, Co. Joe Walsh lived and recorded in Colorado. The Caribou Ranch /Recording Studio built near Nederland Co was owned by record producer James William Guercio.

Thank you for the support! Bryan and I both were in health care, i had my own nutrition business and he works in cardiology. I gave up my business when we moved because i knew I didn't want to commute from the mountains to town every day. So I switched to art- see my video on how i make $ from bees. He's still working- commutes an hour back and forth every day. We picked this area because he'd have more options for work. He also lived in Colorado before in the 90s. We both love snow & mountains and picked this area vs Vermont (where my family is) because the weather is better, sunnier, not as expensive with taxes, and more going on with close-by cities.

I think you are going to do well on YT. You have a good camera presence. Might throw in some background info, where you came from, what you did/do for a living, general area you are in (NW, central etc). Best of luck and keep up the good content.

Buying a tractor is something I wish I did years ago. It would have been a financial stretch but would have paid off on the end. Have you considered doing a tractor review video?
@ColoradoMountainLiving

That was our reasoning to get one, that it would pay for itself. I think a tractor review would be a great video, considering we've used it for quite a variety of tasks!

No permit costs"? No "required designed professional" (state licensed architect) plans? Are you allowed to do your own plumbing, electric, HVAC and septic? (Here in Philadelphia you are not allowed to do any of the above, on top of everything requiring permits and architect plans and surveyor plan. This ends up costing you tens of thousands more because they require you to hire these jobs to licensed trades. Oh... and not to mention the ever changing building codes (NEC, Fire, IRC, IBC..etc)
@ColoradoMountainLiving
@ColoradoMountainLiving 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what your question is, but yes we did have a building permit, a septic permit and architectural plans were required, if not mentioned if this video, they've been mentioned in several other videos. In Colorado we are allowed to do our own electric, plumbing and septic install, but it needs to pass inspection(s).

@ColoradoMountainLiving

Understand that. We still work and had some savings and sold our house, so we were able to put some $ out for initial expenses. But we are not taking out a loan, if we can help it, that's why Bryan is doing all of the building himself.
