Try using TSC squat as a pre exhaust for your suitcase squats, or wall sit as pre-exhaust (you mentioned that already I think :) GREAT topic, BTW.

I've been doing your 3-day dumbbell and body weight work out for a couple months now. I like it, but for a few of the movements I'm outgrowing the 50-lb weights so this video was very relevant for me. For the deadlifts, I actually started out with the 50s, 3x10. It doesn't really feel challenging enough anymore so I plan to try single leg RDLs next time. These are pretty challenging even without dumbbells so I'm pretty sure the weights won't be an issue. The suitcase squats are also not very challenging anymore with those weights so I will switch to doing the SL Bulgarian split squats twice a week - ironically this is the exercise that I dread the most of all of them because they're so intense and draining, but very effective. The chest press is the next one that I anticipate outgrowing the weights, then after that the overhead press. Despite its limitations, I really appreciate this home workout cause I don't want to have to drive to a gym three times a week and then wait around for other people to be done using the equipment, or have other people waiting on me to finish. Also I live in a condo with limited space so the minimal equipment is really important for me. It's pretty cool that it's possible to see great results with such a minimal approach.

Try Nordic Curls where you bend at the waist and not the knees first. Also, 45 degree back extension but that requires a back extension bench which there are folding ones on the market.

I have Powerblocks that go up to 90lbs. You can always start with the basic 50lb kit then upgrade when needed. You can always add bands as well to increase the resistance.

I had the powerblocks in the past but didn't like the square design of them. They work though, so if you enjoy it (or don't care) they are a good product.

I am a 53 year old lifetime natural who works out at home with my Bowflex 1090s. I use the 85s for 3 sets of 8 easy reps on the dumbbell bench press and the 90s for for 4 easy sets of 10 on the dumbbell deadlift squats.

Dumbbell leg curls are a great option for your hamstrings.

This requires extra equipment, but if you want, go for it. I think you might have to do 1 leg at a time as well.

Powerblocks are great if you are in this spot. They start 5-50 and you can buy expansions up to 90. If cost is no object for you the new Rep x Pepin collab releasing soon is the easy winner I think. Thanks for the content!

Yup, I had the PowerBlocks in the past. I didn't like the blockiness of them though so I went with a more traditional style. However, if you have those, it is awesome. I am also a fan of the Nuobell, but they are expensive.

@@GamerBody totally understand. It is decisive, but for me they work well. Nuobells I would actually actively tell you to avoid because of their serious durability issues.

That's the problem with those 50lb plastic adjustables, if you are man, eventually you will outgrow that for the heavier lifts. I'm still a noob at lifting, but I'm already 45lbs each hand for 8 reps on the bench press. Luckily, I have the Ironmaster 75lbs. I'm close to 50lbs and if I had 50lb dumbbells, I'd be stuck.

You can do a lot with just 50lbs and achieve an excellent body (way better than the average person). Try slowing down the reps and see if that help them last longer.

For lower body, sand goes a long way for little money. Sandbags are great!

Nice. While I don't really want to use sand, I can see where it can be helpful!

Why not mention combining DBs and bands? Assuming you're starting with adjustable DBs the bands will be cheap and they can quickly make a weight _much_ more challenging than they were before.

The issue is the change in resistance curve. While it may not matter too much, it will change it from the same weight during the rep, to a variable change as the band is stretch. I am still fighting if this is a big issue or not, but something to consider. I also find most exercises very uncomfortable when adding bands to dumbbells. It can be done, but I'm not a big fan. That is why I have separate setups for each.

Lower body progression without weights or light dumbbells only: 1-shrimp squat (start without holding your feet with your hand) 2-pistol squat (start with a chair or bench and lightly touch) 3-single leg RDL (start with the back leg touching the floor) 4-single leg bridge curl using a slider (start with negatives first) 5-side lunges (slow and controlled with straight back, holding dumbbell in goblet position) 6-single leg slow elevated calf raises (start with not elevated version)

I understand that space can be a limiting factor, but if you're actually serious about building muscle and you MUST work out at home, get yourself a squat rack, barbell and plates. There are so many cost effective and space saving options out there these days that those excuses don't hold much weight. If you, for whatever reason, just prefer DBs and bands, then to each their own (but you're definitely leaving gains on the table).

Sure, the issue is most that watch my content live in apartments or smaller homes that dont have the space. If you have room for it and dont mind that setup, I have nothing against it.
