I am wondering if "annie joins up" might find a home in enchantress. Many of the modern enchantress style cards are legends and it does not only double enter the battlefield triggers. Do not get me wrong it is very win more but while in other decks finding the right enchantment at the right time is tricky, enchantress is built around doing exactly that. Might be nice to have an alternative to oblivion rings in the toolbox, too. I think enchantress is the most likely place it will fit in but legends have a lot of weird triggers. It doubles eldrazi titans annihilator and the lands creatures triggering on landfall or when a land hits the yard. Should work on leave the battlefield triggers as well. Sitting at four mana and having a very middling effect when played might stop it from finding a place but there is some crazy potential for weird stuff here.

You can definitely sac mana dorks. It's important to note though that even if you do saddle it multiple times, you still only get to sacrifice 1 thing.

I think he’s talking about echo of eons. Which only has one printing, the artist is Terese Nielsen. Who had a controversy a few years ago, questionable statements that indicate she is likely a TERF.

Probably a dig at mostly Terese Nielsen, not sure if there are any other artists who oppose trans rights.

I think it doesn't get points because it isn't a game plan or a way to get a game plan. You can't win the game with a Karakas, nor can you get something that wins the game, nor can you use it to lock your opponent completely out of a game. It's really good, with the abundance of legends, but answers aren't what get points.

I think it's one of those annoying bell curve type situations where at the one end, you have inexperienced players saying "it dies to removal" with zero insight, in the middle you have experienced players who know to examine all sides of a card's potential, and on the other end, you have experts saying "it dies to removal," in part as an in-joke, but mostly with a lot more nuance involved. They say multiple times in the episode that they are running and seeing decks with more and more legendary creatures, because the abilities are that good, regardless of Karakas. It's just important to keep it in mind, same as Blood Moon for greedy mana bases.

@@imageispower20 karakas is almost never *the* reason to not play a card, it's essentially just a shorthand way of expressing that something with a downside (being legendary) likely isn't efficient or impactful enough to overcome being easily dealt with

Sol ring, tinker, gifts Ungiven, treasure cruise, dig through time is a full point spread for under $5. But yeah, proxying some decks to play with friends or just using Cockatrice are both great options.

The original Jitte art does show blood on it's tip, implying it's being used to stab people. There's even blood splattering near it.

I don't think that's how that works. One doesn't exist because the other doesn't.

Modern horizons whole shtick is "Time spiral 2 and beyond but we don't have to care about standard", it's obviously going to have many references, it's the whole point of it Look at other standard sets, they don't literally pull characters from all over the multiverse just to get commander players to go "hey I remember that guy"

@@dancingmathusalem5451 And you are assuming there is not narrative or flavor reason for important characters to converge in a Wild West setting, but there is. The whole era this is themed around was about people, either those with existing fame and resources or those desperate enough to risk their lives, converging on an uncharted (but inhabited) land to find their fortunes.

​@@Mordalon What are you on about? Narrative reasons? Modern horizon 2 has no story. It's basically a bunch of in-jokes about MTG's history. It exists exclusively because it would've been weird to do it in any standard set (both because it's unfocused and because it requires higher mechanical complexity). This is not me guessing, this is what Mark Rosewater has explicitly said about the Modern Horizon product line. Most of the named characters in OTJ have 0 relation to the story, they only appear to be cameos and sell product to commander addicts who want to build ther 500th deck. They could've been new characters and it wouldn't have changed anything in their design, but that gets less hype. There is no specific reason for the Gitrog monster, Bruse Tarl, Magda, Lazav (Just to name the ones I'm 99% sure don't appear in any story, there are others I'm less sure but still 80+%) to be in Thunder Junction except that it gets hype. The reason Modern Horizon gets a pass is that it's a rare event. If every standard set becomes another parade of in-jokes it gets boring.

I think he's spot on, its so much work to do something that doesn't really do much the turn you play it. What sort of deck could you see this played in? Aggro decks don't want something this low impact and combo decks don't have enough creatures to utilise it

Yes, Wheeler has a point: The new Jitte only gets one counter per hit, while the old one got two. You basically get to do only one thing per turn, and there are easier ways to e.g. untap one land or grow an attacking creature.

@@barneymiller3689 My point has nothing to do with how good the card is. Lots of cards that are bad in Canlander come out in every set, I'm addressing his behavior regarding this one they've chosen to talk about.

How? This set doesn't have any more callbacks than what is normal for Magic. MoM was the biggest example of that in Standard in awhile, but all of the Modern Horizons sets are laden with callbacks, as the initial inspiration for MH1 was to do Time Spiral again, which was a whole block built on callbacks and injokes. Wheeler makes the statement about Lost Jitte, when MH1 had literal Umezawa's Charm.

There's this weird reaction they have where they want to get ahead of cards they think are not good but know that people will ask them about, but then end up projecting that annoyance onto the card itself. It's crazy since they complain about sets have lots of pushed cards, yet you'd think it'd be preferable for there to be cards that get people excited yet don't have major constructed impact.

I guess you could counter his points by talking about the new design space they expanded into and how it does innovate like previous sets rather than just throwing your hands up and huffing
