Keep in mind that women make up only 11% of total hunters in the US which is a historic high. Also if you were to add up total hours spent hunting men versus women, the "man-hours" men spend would dwarf that spent by women hunting. 80% of Vegans are also women. For the record, 97% of my audience is male, so the data is clear. Data isn't provocative, but what it represents does. I get it. If you're a female hunter and love tearing up animals, pull up a stump, you're totally welcome here. I don't think you're weird, just magical and a special bread. The difference between the sexs can also be linked to the difference in our thought process. Men hunting large game required more direct to the point conversation, no time for drama or long winded discussions. Women rearing children are required to have longer conversations as part of the that process. The division isn't sexist it's just the most efficient.

And I think he is a one in a million man. I as a female love fishing, hunting, camping, horse riding, fixing things and improvising. I've invented many things, have a canoe and just gave my huge truck away, so I can drive an F250XL 460-block w/holly carb., 4x4 anywhere. Still, I only met elderly men fishing at a stocked lake or bad boys who are far from this man we see now. Still searching though. Love the videos for when I can't go off myself. Very soothing. My closest haunt is Samuel P. Taylor state park. Other lakes for fishing way up north, but a close site to camp is where it's at.

Ugh, reminds me of my military service days during winter/spring. It was dark, we were in middle of nowhere, we set up a small guerrilla tent after an exhausting day. Wet snow(sleek) had rained the whole day, rained during the night too. We had to make a small fire, melt snow to get water and boil it to be able to make food which took very long time to do. Couple of hours of sleep in a wet tent and then we moved on to another place because our position was "compromised". You have way different conditions so I know why you're enjoying what you do, but for me it was a mentally depressing experience, which I don't want to experience even in much more enjoyable conditions. Just wanted to write this because this video reminded me of those days.

another great video , thanks for sharing :-) I've been married for many years , and when we first started camping , my wife had a lot to learn , but she learned quickly , she went from not knowing how to set-up a tent to being able to set one up quicker than I could , which left me more time to gather wood and other camp chores which she helped out as well. The gender question never came up , we made a good team. She had her strong points , I had mine, , just like you and your wife , we learned together , and both enjoyed the experience :-)

Chris, you have such a varied and wonderful network of real time friends and family, the entire group are always so positive and uplifting, (even when things don't go just right, you simply grin and move forward), there is no room for negative here period. I grew up from the time I was 8 with my Dad (step father), spending time outdoors, learning and enjoying nature, hunting, fishing, camping, and simply learning how to survive, (I will say compared to you folks we spent time in a Hilton, lol), but I think children today are too sheltered, they spend entirely too much time watching tv, playing video games, and just being lazy, I mean I cried whenever I was locked inside, I would sit and look out the window and dream of all the things I could be doing if could just get out the door, and I am all the better for it, I can do anything I set my mind to, and I know if it ever comes down to it, I can survive and provide for my family, we will never go hungry, or be without a roof over our heads, sure it may not be the best, but we will survive, there is nothing wrong with killing for food, and there shouldn't be anything wrong with you showing it on your videos, it is after all a woodsman's channel showing how to survive in the wild.

I have been watching your videos for a long time and regret more and more that unfortunately I live in Germany, where everything is regulated and in the end, virtually nothing is allowed. It's nice to see how you can just get out into nature to feed on it while having fun as well. In addition, that is certainly very relaxing, even if it is stressful. The positive energy your wife radiates is priceless! Keep it to yourself! Greetings from Germany Chris

My Mom (A Canadian farm girl) could clean a fish, chicken and held hog intestines for her dad as he processes the hog. I believe such abilities come from what you are exposed to at a young age.
@TheWoodedBeardsman
@TheWoodedBeardsman 6 жыл бұрын
My wife's Mom was in a concentration camp, would have to kill chickens at a young age. Can't do it anymore, hates it. Has horrible memories of doing it. But she's tough as nails, non-nonsense historical feminist. But she's happy when I bring her bear meat, deer, fish and all that. But she won't kill anymore, nope. I've seen lots of girls hunt and when they kill things they cry. Not sure why they would do it as often as a boy who's giddy as sh*t after they kill something. Now I know, some girls love it, but at 11%, it's a minority. Could you train girls to kill, yes, you can train them to do anything, but who, boys or girls, will spontaneously re-invent hunting? Boys. It really is part of the programming. If girls were not trained to do it, it's unlikely it would be a very high percentage that would do it. Historical highs are right now, and it's still 89% men doing it.

That was some funny stuff alright Mr. Wood Beard....lol....your wife's many faces during your "chauvinistic" monologue was priceless......AND.....I never noticed until you mentioned it but you do have a very similar look to Tormund, especially in a snowy background setting.....lol. I have to disagree with your thoughts about women, I have 3 older Sisters who taught my Brother and I to set the Net, Trap, Track, and Hunt. My mother and Aunties use to trap animals and both my Grandmothers Hunted and shot small game before they were married. My mother showed us what, where and when we could eat the different flora available to us on our land. My daughters-in-law hunt and my wife and Sisters are just as comfortable in overalls using a Nailgun and Dropsaw as they are in a skirt using a spatula and putting on their makeup, they all know how to sharpen a knife and process an animal carcass. The Women in my family never "played" at wilderness living, because we all lived it, in a Corrugated Iron shack with a dirt floor....lol....I don't think it's a gender thing, I think it's a how you were "brought up" kinda thing. The older first nation women of your country know how to Trap, track and Hunt, I lived there for 2 years with the Tsuu Tina nation on the Sarcee Reserve. Traveled up and down and all around your country, it's quite lovely and very similar to our South Island. The first time hunting in Calgary I shot a 300+ kg Stag, then had to drag the carcass over 4X 400m high hills, then process it with a hacksaw and a pocket knife (1 inch blade), that was blunt.......not my best experience in Canada but I enjoyed the Wilderness. P.S I would've held the Tomato Juice can at a 90-degree angle to the rock, to wear down the entire rim and remove the lid, have done this many times on concrete, never tried it on a rock though., it would have to be pretty hard rock. As always good luck on all your adventures and I can't wait for season 3 (just won't be the same without Jere "Wild Craft") and season 4....YAY.

Fair comment! I agree, the genders overlap a lot and each of us are capable of doing all jobs, it's more in references to preferences and that's pretty clear. Women prefer certain jobs and men prefer certain jobs. I linked up a few studies from un-tained tribes for reference. But I completely agree that women can certainly do all the things men can do and they should do them, in fact, if they enjoy doing them.

Great video, was a fun watch, though one tip from a serious bass fisherman, high end brand name hooks are chemicly sharpened to a smooth and microscopic fine point, by using the stone on a new hook you are actually creating micro serations which may feel sharper but is actualy the rough micro serations on your skin, it also causes resistance when hooking a fish. Best bet is to buy high end brand hooks and just use a new one when it dulls or rolls, although in the field a stone can make a dull hook usable. Cheers!

i rabbit hunt by myself. done it 50 years. so, it's not necessarily a "gender thing" totally, but maybe some-what. it just all depends. everything depends. i happen to love it. i don't know what ya say about something like that, but tell you this about that... you need to know how to survive and it's way better if you love it. remember, anything else is all artificial. the real deal is feeding yourself off the land, but i was raised that way too and that may make a difference. it's just what we did. so, i just still do it. nobody around here is turning down any of my rabbit on a stick or rabbit stew. same when i trap a hog. nobody turns down bacon/ham ever. remember where it came from. remember what we are. remember that it is what god intended. not remembering any of this is what got this world so screwed-up like it is now.

I care about people as well. My wife is Catholic, I'm undecided LOL. I was raised Catholic. I don't mind anything or want anything to mind me. I agree, women and men are very fluid and encourage people (all people) to find what they love and go full in. I'm happy to hear that we live in a world where men and women can do what they enjoy doing. I'd never turn down a free meal! Rabbit on a stick, you kill and prepare, hell yeah!!!

Okey Abi Gor, let me clarify things for you. When you buy in store, somebody else has to kill for you, either plants of animals both are living beings.( are you saying that store bought food wasnt alive at one point?) We are part of nature and nature will kill you eventually. Who is greater coward? A person who kills to provide nutrition for himself or snowflake that buys in store and somone else has to harvest plant/ animal source for him? Stop living in a bubble and get your facts straight.
@frankjobs7113
@frankjobs7113 6 жыл бұрын
Both things are wrong. or should I say, one is worse than the other. You must not kill (which apart is one of the Catholic commandments), but if you want to eat meat you can buy it. That what is wrong is that you think that you have the right to take a life with the pretext of feeding yourself, that is false and hides the reality of what you are doing and is going there to kill. With that philosophy of life in which you give yourself the right to take what you want, you show that anyone has the same right to do the same with you or your neighbors, because ultimately you are also an animal. It is ridiculously stupid that you give yourself the right to go and kill with the knowledge that someone kills for you. It is totally false that someone has a right over the life of another. Every living being has a role in this world, and the rabbit role is not to feed you or yours to go to a forest to kill it. And another thing, not only have you killed that innocent rabbit, but you have forced your wife to be your accomplice. I wonder ... what other things did you force to do that she did not want to do? Not only do you have no ethics or morality, but you misunderstand what it is to live in harmony with nature. The most important thing in this life is not only to understand what is our role (I mean for that we are on earth) but also to understand what is right and what is wrong, and act accordingly. Karma exists .. beware!

Good deal of ignorance here. Why would you come to a bushcraft channel and disrespect the man who respectfully uses nature the way it was intended? Whatever he kills he uses completely. I absolutely love the fact that your wife is doing a lot of the work, that you'd "normally" do on your own. This has so many implications in itself. I find it just amazing to see a woman actually trying to pull her weight & actually doing it too. She, probably, didn't enjoy all of it. But she seems to be committed to working together. Again, this is just amazing to see. Big thumbs-up to you, Courtney. You're a good woman, as far as I can tell.

She's a good sport. She goes for me, and I spend time in hotels or restaurants for her. No mistake there, she likes the 'finer things' I prefer to rough it. It's good to live in both worlds.

Btw I found a Fox the other day that was dead from natural causes. I was thinking about keeping the tail just for the satisfaction the animal didn’t waste + a little something to keep you know. When I tell people they call me a “psycho”. I appreciate these vids btw cuz ur teaching. About things you don’t learn in a classroom. I’m Spanish but I’m 40% Native American according to that dna testing thing u buy online. I think my ancestral background has something to do with my interest and aprreciative things about all of nature.

here's a hot tent solution. V-notch the ice down the middle of tent "floor"with a hatchet, into a hole auger'd just behind the tent. The liquid water will trickle down the notch into the hole.

Here's a tip. When opening a can with a knfe you should pierce TWO holes. One hole for liquid to go out and another one for air to go in. This way it will go much smoother.
@waraidako
@waraidako 6 жыл бұрын
The idea behind the can and the rock thing is that the can is just stamped, so the lip is just bent back on itself and because of that if you can wear the lip down just a few millimeters the entire top part will come loose. The best way to do it is to just put the entire can against a flat rock and just twist it or push it around in circles while applying some downward pressure. If you search for "opening a can with a rock" on youtube there are tons of videos showing the technique.

I think you are doing a great service to men and women as well by intelligently and calmly explaining that been different sexually and emotionally doesn’t necessarily means that we can’t have a mature relationship, where you both help each other and contribute to the relationship, unlike most modern couples where the objective of the woman is to marry a wallet and shame her man into submission. It’s always refreshing to see a young couple and specially a young woman that without abandoning her femininity, can still be reasonable and been able to maintain the balance and the man women contract that for thousands of years kept families together. My blessings to you guys keep it up you make a beautiful couple, and you’are gonna have to tell me where you find women like that in Canada because here in America I can’t find one I can hold on to for more than 3 months.

Good!!! But hey, seriously, any feminist want to come out and show me how it's done? I'd love to see a bunch of modern feminists cut wood and catch fish FOR ME!!!! It's funny, you know, because they would certainly say they could do it, but they would NOT be interested in doing it at all, which is more than half the battle. Motivation is a real thing and if you can't muster up the gumption to even bother doing it, what's the point is roaring about what you're capable of doing. Fact is, most women lack enough strength to cut wood efficiently, and lack the interest to pursue a fish in freezing temperatures, or to abandon modern comforts. 97% of my audience is male...because this is what men are designed to do.
@JadenTaylor2107.
@JadenTaylor2107. 6 жыл бұрын
you know i 100% agree with you like im not saying that women cant do it im sure there is a ton who can but the majority lack the physical strength or the mentality to do grunt work like alot of women like to have a man do the work that strains the body and thats totally fine because theres work that can be done at camp that women find easier and better fit for their physic.

WTH, why wouldn't us feminists want to kill a rabbit, cut wood and catch fish? These things are a natural part of real life. Even we have figured out that going more primal is good for our health. We just like to be treated well when we're out in the wild. Everything tends to be a little tougher. Men can still 'wear the pants' if they want and we'll also contribute.

Still only 11% of all hunters are women. It's a gender things as much as boys and girls playing with toy trucks versus dolls. Sure, with billions of people on the planet, some will trade off, but the research is clear. Genders exist and they prefer to spend their time differently. I'm not saying that women don't hunt, I'm saying most prefer not to hunt. If you can't make generalities, you can't really have a conversation. I would certainly be able to assume that a boy would rather go hunting than a girl and would be right most of the time, especially as they turn into teenagers and young adults.
