OWGR awards ranking points to 54-hole tour....it's NOT LIV

What does this mean for LIV golf? doers this mean a way into the world ranking system for LIV golf if they are to comply with the OWGR? this could be huge news at the start of the golf season and mean some of the LIVgolf tour stars who haven't yet won a major or have tumbled down the world rankings system a way into-the majors once again?
But will they comply and will the re apply for the world rankings system??

I believe the owgr is a flawed system. 72 holes is easier than 54. On liv you cannot afford to have a bad round of golf or you will fall down the leaderboard fast. Plus liv golf has something that the pga will never have, which is excitement. Just look at Adelaide.

Are we still pretending LIV not getting OWGR points is about "Standards" instead of carrying water for the PGA aristocracy!? Let's cut all the hipocritical nonsense, LIV could change their whole format, would still not get points, is politics.

What's hilarious there are "tours" in LATAM that play in barely legal fields with sketchy entry requirements, those guys get points... Go figure.

LIV was never going to get points… it has nothing to do with the format. It is 100% about power and control

To me it is my perception that OWGR kept moving the "goal posts" when LIV tried to comply and not getting the nod from the PGA Tour suits. It is a weak bargaining card, but the PGA has to keep constraints on their own players from jumping to LIV until the merger is in final form or they lose bargaining power. The interesting thing is each week that goes by the PGA is losing viewers while they play their Machiavellian strategy games. The viewers and sponsors are the key to their success, but they can't see the train in the tunnel coming at them. If LIV can produce more Adelaide fandom in other events, I think the PGA needs to get the wrenches out because they are leaking oil. All in all, I think the OWGR is waiting for the PGA Tour to give the nod meaning we have a final agreement.

i can say i watched all 3 LIV rounds, and played golf this past weekend. i did check out highlights of the Zurich monday morning on youtube. for me youtube golf also weighs in, i only have so much time available to sit and watch.

Great post. Machiavellian makes you sound super smart. I do want to say places like Hong Kong and (maybe Japan sometime) and others will have great fans but it may never be a party like Adelaide. Every place is different. Different cultures. That’s what makes it great. But as long as the people are coming and enjoying it. Bringing out the next generation. That’s a success in my book. Adelaide truly is something special like WM. They both need to balance things just right which is not easy. But with the right people in charge it can be done very well. But I’m not sure I would want to be the guy managing that level of party week after week. That would wear everyone on the tour out. That being said another 2 or 3 big parties or so out of 14 would be awesome.

I have a solution for not cut issue, give top half finishers OWGR points. Similar to half of PGA tour events, usually half made the cut.

It doesn't matter. LIV doesn't need their points because LIV is the WORLD TOUR. It won't be long before all of these has beens will be begging for help from LIV.

OWGR is a PGA Tour ranking system. The PGA is an American-based golf tour. All other tours should get their own ranking system...easy as that. The invites for the PGA will only show golf followers again that the Majors are anti-LIV and they will also have 20% fewer viewers...

LIV golf does have a feeder tour, it’s the Asian Tour and International series

if the standard is Top 100 on OWGR get an invite and the Liv guys inside the Top 100 don't get an invite then those involved in their denial to play are 100% corrupting the Game and NOT acting in the best interest of Golf. Ranking points is easy to work out for LIV , Top 20 get ranking points, what Jay and the rest of the corruption crew are trying to do is find a way into the Bank account of LIV Golf and Mr Norman isn't having it.

When was the last time the pga tour was in Hong Kong, or Singapore, Thailand, or even Australia for any events with top level players?

Ranking points was always about trying to keep control of the pga tour monopoly by making it harder for pga players to have a choice where they played. LIV should do their own rankings, they dont need owgr which is meaningless.

There's certain criteria to get world raking points and LIV doesn't meet that criteria. They want the ranking points, but they want the powers that be to change the rules so they can get them. Norman told all the players when they joined that they would get them, some players have said so, and now that they've been denied they're upset. Play by the rules guys, and you'll get them

Surely the lower tours that play 54 holes don't earn many points. Then this low point format should apply to LIV. But even lower points for not having all the other requirements that 25 other tours follow.

Liv golf already has these things, minus the cut. The Asian and international tours feed into Liv. The owgr is not an accurate system anyway. The majors have already figured this out.

LIV offered to change to whatever format would allow OWGR points. OWGR still said no.

I thought their focus was growing the game? Why are they worried about the majors. They could go run clinics in Australia and Asia on those weekends and really have an impact.

OWGR has to come up with a way to give LIV players points. LIV is trying to do something new but the requirements to get points means they have to conform to rules that makes them a copy of PGAT or DP. Instead of LIV being a “closed club” the OWGR board is closed minded. Think outside the box.

They’ll award world ranking points once all of the live golf players drop down the rankings. Then they’ll say the tour isn’t worth many points because they aren’t playing against top players

54 hole ranking points? Interesting. My point is no cut no points. So if LIV had a points cut off system where the team can still go but ABSOLUTELY NO POINTS AWARD BELOW THE CUT LINE. I can go on but I shan’t 😊

the majors letting the PGA own the OWGR because of the PGA TV contracts makes majors just another PGA event and a major in name only. expect the post Tiger ratings to continue to decline.

all LIV should do is cut the bottom scoring players of each team at the end of the 2nd round, Final round then only has the 3 remaining players scoring towards the team event. Solved.

They were already doing that they just changed to all 4 players counting in January.

The LIV product is clearly here to stay. Personally I don’t care if any LIV player plays a PGA event but the Majors remain a hot product and the game wants the world’s best players competing. If WRP continue to be withheld, Major viewership will continue its decline. It purely political in my opinion so the PGA should make the call to address WRP before their outdated model is further tarnished.

Stop they sign to play live golf, let them have their own tournament. That’s what they wanted more time off. They got it let the PGA keep the tours for real players with the intensity to win. That’s Golf. They want their cake and eat it too that’s not life
