I think Spike is just really observant and understands the Buffy-Angel dynamic better than most. He knew that Buffy's first instinct would be to send it to Angel.

TWO vamps have worn the ring and had it wrenched off of their finger. The ring would attract so many vamps to try to get it from him. Better to have it destroyed than to fall into bad fingers again.

Whedon has stated the he uses the term "soul" to describe a moral compass. It allows those who have one to make altruistic choices. So the way the word "soul" is used is specific to the Buffyverse. Angel is a vampire with a soul. Specifically, he's Angelus with a soul. Ergo he's not Liam with a vampire body (& essence), he's Angelus with a moral compass. Liam doesn't feel guilty about what Angelus did. Angelus feels guilty about what he himself did. It took me way too long to figure that out myself. However, it makes sense when you think about some of the things Angelus has said. Spike, "You really have a yen to hurt her, don't you?" Angelus, "She made me feel human, that's just not something you forgive." Let that sink in. Buffy made Angelus feel human (when he had a soul, but still: Angelus). Granted, without a soul Angelus had no ability to be altruistic. On the other hand, he was one of the most (if not the most) vicious vampires of all time. Angel's brooding, soul-searching introspection, is understandable. So is his concern regarding his choices (such as forgetting about those who he protects at night if he starts living in the day). Just because someone has a soul doesn't mean that they make altruistic choices. Only that one can &, as mentioned, Angel is still Angelus. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Anya, not Aya. Anya is short for Anyanka, which was her vengeance demon name. She was the vengeance demon for like 1000 years, she forgot how to be human, and she's still trying to figure out how to be human. She only became human again in s3e09, The Wish - so she's been human for less than a year! Gotta cut her some slack!

David was in a minir car accident on. The wat to the location and as a precaution, took the day off. So, when Spike is circling a chained Angel, when you can't see Angel, David isn't there. James is talking to a hanging chain. I was therr. James was great. I was also at the pier, way out in Malibu. We liked the performance of the torturer, but they fet his voice wasn't menacing enough, so they lowered it in post. Spike went to LA because, who else does Buffy know? The stupid curse ender is constantly attached to sex, which you can have without perfect happiness, but it is really about being too content too feel remorse and Angelus is back. If he wears it for a week, he might not want to give it up. If he forgives himself, he loses his soul again. He has to feel guilty to stay cursed.

And, if Angelus came back, with the Ring of Amara he would be way more dangerous.

“It’s not the demon in me that needs killing, it’s the man.” Angel from “Amends” Angel lacks a level faith in himself. Self control and temptation is an issue. One of the metaphors of this show is that of a recovering alcoholic. Or bloodaholic in his case. So he has to be careful about temptations that can lead him astray. He thinks the ring is such a temptation. Another issue is that if the word hot out that he had the vampire holy grail, then he’d be spending a lot of his time fighting off vampires who want that ring. Finally, what happens when he has the ring and Angelus returns…

Cross over appearances should be a surprise when they happen. Who gave it all away? Angel said that he needs to be available for possible victims of the night by demons preying on humans. He said the day time people have a protection system set for them. If he wears the ring and starts going around in daylight, he feels he'll get too comfortable doing that instead of being a champion for people at night. As for Spike finding out, about Angel getting the ring next...it could be as simple as he could have been watching the Scooby gang for any clues as to who had it, and heard or saw Oz talking about it and showing it before they the gang said goodbye to him. My theory on Spike being different than other vamps has to do with maybe him being supernatural before he was turned, like Druscilla was. Her human self was a Clairvoyant with a few more hidden talents that her demon capitalized usage of mastering over time. I will stand on the hill of my opinion that William was and Spike is an empath, but more skilled with it. His intuition is always on point. He loves deeply, but it's twisted because of Dru. Dru's been tortured and driven mad by Angelus and Darla, so he messed her mind up and did deviant things with and to her, both before and after she was turned. She taught Spike those ways. So, his demon gets really toxic with it, both physically and verbally, but Dru sees it as passion.

Despite what you think, it’s been established over and over that vampires don’t have a soul. Angel is an exception, because of the curse, they gave him his soul back as a punishment. Having a personality or feelings doesn’t equates to having a soul. Spike is a conundrum, because it seems like, as a vampire despite being soulless he still maintains sme of his humanity, that’s why “the judge” in season 2 could have affected him.

Vic is defining a soul the way most people in the real world understand it rather than the way Whedon uses the term in the Buffyverse. Her misunderstanding is understandable. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Its so funny how all the firls fall for Parker's performance but guys knew he was an f-boy.

Not all of them. Lexi didn't. If I remember correctly, she called him out on the first "date". There are other ladies I've watched who seemed unsure (they'd caught on to not trusting anyone new). As for falling for it at all, there are a couple of reasons for that. First of all, it takes experience to see the red flags. And second, toxic behavior (especially in terms of romantic relationships) is often "sold" as normal or even desirable in TV & film (as well as pretty much any entertainment medium)... including BtVS. Remember the meta things Buffy has said about Angel's "stalking" & "cradle-robbing" ways? Viewers falling for Parker's act is understandable under the circumstances. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

35:02 - Not sure if it's where you got it from, but that's something stated by Whistler at the end of Becoming Part 1: "No one asks for their life to change. Not really. But it does. So what are we, hopeless, puppets? No. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are."

The show isn't super consistent about the nature of souls, but as I understand it: In the Buffyverse, the soul is what gives a person the ability to make altruistic choices or resist self-serving temptation. Humans can choose not to murder strangers to get what they want, even if they know for a fact they won't get caught, because it would be morally wrong. Vampires _can't,_ they can only choose not to if doing so would negatively affect them (they'd get caught, they're working for someone and they won't get paid if they don't keep a low profile, etc.) They can be friendly, funny and have a ton of personality, but they also don't have a conscience to stop them killing innocent people for very petty reasons. That's what the show means by them not having souls. Spike was devoted to Drusilla, but even that was through a warped lens. Their relationship was possessive, unhealthy and occasionally abusive on both sides.

I am curious about what would happen if you beheaded a vampire wearing the Gem of Amara. Would nothing happen, and the head grows back? Or would the head remain separated and just look really funny?😂 🤨... What? Sometimes you think about these things.

The show is about Angel's redemption, he can't forgive himself which is why there's a show. Also don't forget about the curse that can turn Angel back evil if he gets "perfect happiness" which is always on the back of Angel's mind. Yes Angelus did those bad things but Angel thinks he's at fault because he still has the demon inside & all the memories. Like I never killed hundreds(maybe thousands) of people before like Angel but i'm sure I would have a hard time ever forgiving myself & would always have those people on my mind which would prevent me from staying happy. Also about the ring Angel had to destroy it, look how easy Spike & Touturer lost the ring. The ring puts him & his friend in danger all the time if he had that ring. This episode Angel got captured fairly easy, that ring would've been stolen within a month & Angel would have try to get back the ring constantly. It's too much of a hassle.

Very true for thé ring, I just wanted him to have fun with it for a while, but it totally needs to be destroyed, completely agree

Pretend for a moment that Angel chose to wear the ring instead of destroying it. If he were invincible where would the suspense be? No danger of him being harmed at all. When the very first Superman comics started Superman beat the bad guys easily every time. The readers got bored. "What's the point?" they would ask. So the creators came up with kryptonite, something to give the bad guys the possibility of coming out on top, thereby creating uncertainty and suspense. So think about it, would a program with unkillable Angel be much fun to watch?
