This Ford E150 van had a misfire under acceleration and was running like crap. The symptoms were chugging and lack of power. Pulling up the engine trouble codes showed a P0300 P0301 P0303 P0308. I diagnosed a couple of bad coils and worn out spark plugs which were original and had 116K miles. Replacing Ford van spark plugs and ignition coils is not the most fun but can be done more easily with some good information. Hopefully this video helps you out. Please subscribe to the Ozzstar channel if you haven't already and a thumbs up is always appreciated. Leave any questions you have down below, thanks! Take it easy. -Glen (Ozz)

You have the clearest instructions of any video I've ever seen. I appreciate you're honesty about the difficulty level ex. having to do things blind & the tools you've laid out before hand. You are the only one that has been actually been helpful by just sticking to the task at hand & not muddying it up with a bunch of unnecessary bullshit. P.S. be sure to video the next time you do a repair from start to finish so we can see the actual process in it's entirety. Thanks

@@uski59 well, each of those shit Ford coils is $80x8 from dealer, so there's $640 right there, plus plugs, labor, that might include plug/ignition wiring, etc etc etc so yeah. Great video, thank you. Your camera work was good and left a clear field of view. I would add to make sure you blow out the area of the spark plugs after you pull the coil boot. Then blow it out again after you start turning the plugs out. You don't want anything falling down into the cylinder. I even go so far as to stick the compressor wand down into the spark plug hole and blow out the cylinder just before I install the new spark plug. You really don't want any junk going into the cylinders.

A tree fell on my Lincoln last summer, crushed trunk, blew out back window. I went to junk yard got trunk, rear window did all but paint it. Even body shop F**** UP letters. I don't trust ANYONE!!! what the hell happened to competency?? I am a contractor 30 yrs. I do my best for every customer. I just replaced all 8 plugs on my 2013 E350 and this video was a huge help! I was able to remove and replace all 8 plugs from inside the vehicle with little trouble. I will say that taking the extra 15 minutes to remove both front seats was a huge time saver as it made it much easier to reach all of the coils and plugs. I did remove the PCV valve hose as it was routed over plugs 2,3 & 4 as well as removing a bracket that held some other vacuum switch on the back of the intake plenum. I was careful to hand tighten all 8 plugs (about 8 turns) before putting a torque wrench on each one to get the torque set consistently at 11-14 ft.lbs. Overall it wasn't as difficult as I had suspected, about 3 hours of works at a leisurely pace.

Thank you handsome. I have a miss so I'm gonna go replace them all since I don't have a scan tool. I bought the 2004 e250 about 3 months ago for $2,800 has way alot miles 273, 000. I know I should have waited but I was so tired of looking. It ran great. Air works, and i drive it everyday to work. I changed its oil & filter & air filter myself It doesn't like hills very much but apparently it's common with this year. But for some reason the battery was dead and I think it was the terminal hopefully. I cleaned it but it still messed up cause I haven't drove far enough to charge. The idle is rough big time., but it idles better when I turn on A/C. I work alittle on vehicles so Im gonna ck vacume hoses and replace sparkplugs. I plan on taking good care of this old van cause it's soon to be my home. I tore out all the metal shelving which was a pain for me I even had to cut some parts out with my grinder. I now have hardwood floor, frig/freezer, fake but looks real wood stove heater. My bed a fold down desk and some other things. Its cozy. I will do a video eventually. I just hope I can get to know my motor well so i can take care of her. I hope the plugs work and there's no more miss in the idle.I just decided I'm gonna put semi expensive sparkplug wires. Anyone have a van like mine?Which boots and wire set do you think is the best for this old van???

1995 Ford E-150,Took the carpet off passenger side, checked all under side for wires ,or lines,,,,, took a reciptackle saw, with a millawake steel cutting saw,, and cut the floor 3,6 inches, grabbed some channel locks pulled the steel floor back so i could reach 1,and2 spark plugs, also pulled the passenger tire off and used extensions , with a 1/2" driver, got everything off, took some finesse and time, but got it done

Great video. Definitely makes us feel a little better about doing it ourselves. Thank you for the detailed video. We just subscribed. We have a 2014 rv on a Ford chassis. We just got the code that number 2 has a misfire so we’ll just do a tune up. 👍🏼

Soooo it ended up being only the one ignition coil that needed to be replaced. It was the number 2, we moved it to number 8 the problem followed. We swapped out number 8 for a new coil and reset the check engine. The “permanent” code reset and we haven’t had any issues come up since. Thanks a lot!!! Great content.

@@AdventuresofScoJen Make sure the spark plugs are in good condition. Worn out plugs are the main reason for coil failure. Glad the video helped you out.

@@ozzstars_cars it has 43,000 miles on it. The google said both items should last 100,000. You think going in and trying to get the number 2 spark plug out is worth the aggravation right now or could we just wait to see if the coil goes again. Or is that a bad idea? -Thanks Jen

@@AdventuresofScoJen normally for the factory (oem) specified plugs (Motorcraft) at 43k miles would be half life including the coil. If the vehicle only has 43k miles on it I would be curious to know why the coil failed so early. It would not be unusual for an aftermarket non oem coil to fail early. I would make sure the plug is not damaged, such as carbon fouled or cracked porcelain causing a carbon trail.

Thanks for taking the time to show this. What a great video! Im a DIYer. Just bought a second hand 2004, 4.6L E250 with 220K miles. She runs beautifully and I want to keep it that way. When i removed the doghouse to look at the sparkplugs I couldn't believe how packed that engine space was! How does anyone reach in there? Thanks for the tool tips as well

Good for you using Motorcraft parts. We have a fleet of Ford E-series shuttles and it seems the only ignition coils which last are Motorcraft.

I use OEM parts when possible. Doing the job twice sucks especially when it's someone else's vehicle.

I’m learning this lesson currently. Replaced all the plugs and coils back in December. The mechanic used cheap aftermarket coils. 2 have gone bad in 10 months. What a pain.

I'm amazed at this video. I watched another video about the same thing and this other guy said he had to remove both fuel rails. You mentioned nothing about removing all the stuff he did. I have already dealt with the #4 coil and plug and really want to do the rest. I hope it's just as you described it without removing the fuel rails. I hope you will reply with the answer. Thanks for the heads up.

As I said in the video, pull up on the coil to release it from the sparkplug then bend slightly outward and up. No fuel rail removal is necessary in this case.

I’ve got an E250. 2012. 365,000 miles on it...still runs good... I did change out the plugs and coils .. all of them at about 230,000 miles and I had to change out a couple sensors a while back... I had to replace ball joints and tie rod ends..and that’s about it.. nothing else except brakes and calipers ..... do your maintenance and drive responsibly and you’ll get a lot of life out of those vans

HELP ---- Can you PLEASE tell me if I need to remove the fuel rail to replace only the Cyl # 1 coil ? Cyl 1 is passenger side and very front of engine , so i'm guessing that one you'd change from under the hood ? What a PAIN to change coils on this engine. But again , my OBD2 told me #1 is bad and for now I just want to change that coil as quickly and easily as possible. Advice Please & Thanks Cheers !

You need to blow out the spark plug port before you take the spark plugs out in order to stop any debris getting down in the cylinder port. Very important.
