Matt, I think you should add detail to the show notes, such as the Gaia paint and thinner codes, or "chipping enamel weathering products." You've always been an early-adopter of new paints and interesting techniques, so this would be helpful for those who later follow your lead to find the right video when the time comes.

Hi Matt, Good informative series so far but I’m feeling your pain, I’ve decided life is getting too short for crap kits, when there are so many more quality and more enjoyable kits just waiting. I think you will be polishing forever to get that turd to shine! Cheers Mick.

I know what you mean about building older or lower quality kits. i usually build stuff for a guy I know. His house is full floor to ceiling of models but for months now he's been into really old kits which are difficult to build and never make top quality models. I recently built the Tamiya P38 for myself and it goes together like a Swiss watch and is a brilliant build. I just struggled a bit with the 100+ micro decals

i am at the same stage as you , seen all the issues but still carrying on , but appreciate what you mean . cheers Tom
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
Yeah - it's definitely carry-onable. For me it's mostly an issue of there being so many things I want to spend my time on, and where this fits in that crowd.

So I get it and I don't get it - wasn't a good bit of this anticipated in the sense of it being an older Trumpeter kit? I'm just looking at it from the perspective of the time consumed to make 2 videos before pulling the pin on it. And a question for you regarding subjects selected for videos - are you ever concerned about a kit being "played out" (something everyone's built ten times over like the Tamiya F-14, etal)?
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
I was anticipating a certain level, but, say, rescribing both nacelles tip to tail? Nope. Didn't realize that'd be a thing til I got up close with it. As for played out - sure. Though it's not just the kit, it's kit + markings. There are lots of options to make the F-14 your own. But it's a reason I shied from the Tamiya P-38 for awhile - all of the schemes are OD/NG. Until I found markings that spoke to me.
@willthorson45433 жыл бұрын
Maybe in the minority, but I would love you to continue on the pg38 kit. Pretty rare to see them being built.

Hi Matt! Great video again! And, as mentioned by others, if you feel you need to abandon this build in favor of other builds, just do so. You did that with the A-6 and when you felt the time was right again, you turned it into a stunning model. And yes, we all know how Tamiya works... When you collect all the kits and aftermarket stuff to kitbash plastic into that one subject you wanna build, a week later Tamiya announces that kit to be released... Now what with my stash of Academy F-4 B/Ns? 🤷🏼♂️ One thing I’m curious about though: why the sudden interest in MRP’s primer? I know you normally tend to go for Mr. Surfacer and Stynylrez. I have MRP primer sitting on my shelf, but steer away from it as I had some issues having it turn gritty on me. Anyway, looking forward to your next video! Whatever that may be... Patrick

Hey Matt, I was thinking of your musings regarding the application of the dental powder from the previous episode and it came to mind that Tammy has those metal stir sticks. On the other end of them is a cute little spoon. I don't have any with me so I can't remember how small they actually are but if you have them do you think scooping out some of the powder and being able to drop it accurately upon the glue would be better? It seems like everyone has bought those at one time. If you don't have them they Are Tamiya 74017 and should be under $10. Hope it helps.

Yup. Trumpeter aircraft kits are pretty much just crap. They look good enough in the box that I start into them. But then the frustrations of the engineering, fit, detail and innacuracies (which is a nice way of saying "they made up shit") eventually get the whole thing thrown back in the box.

Dude, you can talk yourself out of literally anything (ask me how I know) but for my .02 cents worth, don't puss out on it! I know guys who have literally half their stash started and put back in the box. Drives me nuts. I guess I'm just one of those "if I start it, I finish it" kind of guys. Not saying you're in that group but as much shit as there is to do with that Trumpy kit, I'm confident it'll be worthwhile in the end. Anyhoo, that's how I see it. ;-)

The work you did on the wheel wells is just sublime. The staining in the wells looks so real. Great job. But, alas this is a terrible model kit. The sad thing is things have not gotten much better over the years in my opinion. The 1/32 b-24 from hobbyboss was a disaster for me and the hobbyboss 1/32 a-26 invader with seven cylinder engines a rage inducing screw up on their part. So I get your frustration.
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
Man, you've certainly picked the rough ones! Totally agree that Trumpeter can make a mess of things - but they can turn out good kits, too. The Intruder is more good than bad, the Skyraider and MiG-29s, Hind, Bearcat, Dauntless, , F-84s etc. But I do wish they were more consistent.
