That will leak in the future as the foam compresses. You’ve drilled the wrong end by the look of it. Those tanks have drilling points where there is no insulation

No, it'll be fine. There is no continuous force to compress the foam.

Another great video - you both are true experts. There are many plumbers on KZfaq but over not seen any that will accept the challenges you do and deliver to such a great standard. It’s an interesting setup - I assume the well was the original supply before the need to mains water in for drinking - interesting to know how the are managing that control in the toilets and cafe.

Mark.....actually, you're not wide of the mark here....either description is a portmanteau word and your tele(scopic) porter (handler) is as good as the telehandler !

building regulations stating overlapping base of tank must be minimum 150mm around plus made from minimum 19mm play wood 👍☝️

It looks like there may be an insulation free section for the outlet all along the short side under the inlet. You can see a step in the insulation at 32:03 on the back side as well.

i saw there was a step, but why would the whole of that end be uninsulated, and also it would mean outlet directly below inlet allowing the water at the opposite side to become stagnant?

@@PBPlumber I think the base would be fitted 180 degrees from how it is fitted. I guess they think the oulet pipe might be the most difficult to relocate when replacing a tank.

Have you not go that bottom half the wrong way round? . Looks like there is no foam on the left hand side ( at 17.17) compared to the right hand side. You can see what I mean at 34.39 as well

The bottom half of the tank was the wrong way around. The opposite side to where the outlet was drilled doesn't have the insulation at the bottom, so that's the section to put the outlet.

The indentation you are looking for is across the whole end of the cistern and partially round the backside .

would you put your outlet directly below your inlet and allow for the water at the opposite end to become stagnant? i’m sure i learned that in college

@@PBPlumber no I wouldn't. It's not just for stagnation it's also to stop aeration in the outlet when the water level is low in the cistern and the incoming water is dropping into the cistern . We all make mistakes I will admit that . Its unfortunate that because you post videos on you tube the world watches and criticises . I am a fan of your work and know you take pride in what you do on sites and visiting colleges etc . Dont take it to heart . I would have probably made the same mistake. It's a school day every day.

@@PBPlumber you could’ve flipped the bottom of the tank round so the part with no insulation was at the opposite end of the inlet then you wouldn’t of had to drill through the insulation

@@TheFoolishboy9 No seasonal/winter isolation valves fitted. Not like it would have mattered anyway. In my experience, even if you fit them and tell them to turn the inside isos off and open the taps when winter approaches, they'll just forget. Hey ho, ho ho! have a nice Chrimbo!

Ill preface this with I don’t know plumbing by trade, but bits from a healthcare environment. Should the bypass have a second isolation and drain for when not in use? Just seems like a bit of a leg to have standing water for long periods of time. Happy to be corrected 👌

i've seen some terrifying things in healthcare environments far beyond this, but you are on the right track with this. as already mentioned it's for watering plants and toilet flushing. it's from a well so no risk of backflow to mains. glen knows what he's doing.

I said it in the last video but I’ll say it again. You’ve glued PVC and ABS pipe and fittings together. You might get away with it but you shouldn’t do it. You have to use different glue on ABS and PVC. Also you’ve voided the warranty on that tank.

What an odd tank design where the water level lies above that two part seal if that's what happens. Surely it's asking a lot of that to remain watertight over time.

Lots of big cisterns come in sections and are bolted together, including the sides . As long as the seal is done correctly it won't leak .
