[P3D V4 60FPS] 757 LANDING IN STORM ALI! CRAZY WEATHER! | Keflavik - Glasgow

The UK was being hit by an insane storm, they named it "Storm Ali". I decided It would be a fun idea to take my Captainsim Icelandair 757 from Keflavik (BIKF) to Glasgow (EGPF) in Prepar3D v4 and see what it was all about.
It was insane. I was doing 80 knots ground speed as I touched down... Kudos to the IRL pilots who battled the extreme weather & winds that day - it can't have been easy!

I played around in that big Florida hurricane about 2 years back in the default P3D plane you start in, the airport you start at if you don't change anything . The weather was powered by ActiveSky16. Surprisingly, though I was literally flying sideways a lot of the time, I never crashed once despite multiple landings in the lowest visibility, highest winds you've ever seen in your life. Wind was so strong if you pointed the plane in the right direction, you could pretty much VTOL that sucker. And thanks to Active Sky, that hurricane cloud looked mighty. When you got above it at around 60,000 it was just the most incredible sight to see. Was hell on the framerate though.

I landed the FlightFactor A320 at Gatwick in this storm the other day - flap 3, airspeed jumping between 150-165 kts. Absolutely planted it on the runway and overheated the brakes, but it was still satisfying to land safely in those winds :D The formula for calculating approach speed is Vref + 1/2 headwind + gust factor. For me that was roughly 140 + 20/2 = 150, then try not to let it drop below that between gusts.

Firstly I need to make clearer my comment from the previous video; when I spoke of no carriers flying the 757 I had meant to say European Legacy Carriers.... At one time Air France, BA & Iberia could have been counted amongst them & that’s before we get onto the LCC. & defunct carriers. Another great video Matt keep up the good work! #theleverofshame

Hey Matt, You may have said this in your first video back, but I've already forgotten and can't find where you said it for love nor money, but was the scenery you're using Orbx Base and Vector? 16:27 looks crazy beautiful! Just upgraded from FSX:SE to P3Dv4 and going to start fresh with my mods and scenery! P.S. Loving everything with the new videos. I posted on the first one back about how great your achievement is, and still wanted to highlight that. Even though everyone isn't immediately congratulating you anymore, I think we as a simming community are stronger and happier with you so active within it! Thanks so much!

When I land in crosswinds I just fly off to a taxiway or something because I overadjust. Somehow though I grease the landing and projectFLY would show a -9fpm landing rate XD

Hi Matt. you mentioned the 757 feels sluggish and having about 2 hours in the Real SIm for United and also 2 hours in the 767-300 it is sluggish in roll especially compared to the 767 as it has inboard and out board ailerons and the 75 only outboard. The 757 fliys like a much heavier airplane yet it is over powered ans has a slow approach speed, its my favorite.

Yeah, the MSAs to the north are all like 4900 ft. That's probably why you were getting terrain warnings. You were visual with the ground so it was ok, but probably wouldn't want to be that low irl :P

You dont switch off the engine hydraulic pumps, as to do so you energize a coil in the pump itself and it can get damaged if energized for long periods. Regards, good video!

I used to request a VFR landing in FSX ATC to prevent AI to roll on the runway just in front of me. Not sure if it still works in P3D.
