☺ ABOUT THIS SERIES
In this series the Royal Enfield Himalayan is ridden roughly 2,000 miles (3,219km) to the northern coast of Alaska to infamous Prudhoe Bay and neighboring Deadhorse, AK. At 70°N latitude, the "Top of Alaska" can be an unforgiving place, especially in late-summer and early fall when the weather abruptly shifts as the seasons fight for dominance. Winter always prevails over summer and fall. Snow, slush and ice were in fact on the itinerary for this adventurous trip.
As my first "true" motorcycle adventure, complete with hundreds of miles of gravel and mud, both the Himalayan and I were pushed to some limits, if only briefly.
Join the ride and see for yourself how the Royal Enfield Himalayan holds up to a first-ever attempt at reaching Prudhoe Bay, one of the most northerly area accessible by road in the world. Expect to see some wonderful scenery, spectacular wildlife, and many friendly faces as the adventure unfolds.

I have enjoyed all your videos. I especially appreciate the drone shots. I am a video professional but I am in awe of what you do. When I get on my Himalayan, I just want to ride and enjoy, filming seems like work. I just came back from the Borealis Royale in Fort McMurray (I live in Calgary 500 miles away). It was great fun. It was an ADV event based on Geotagging. My video is not going to be as impressive as yours.

That gentleman clayton knew the back issues for such long distances. So he opted for a cruiser for much smoother ride. As you said, the spirit shudnt die out if you are 100 some miles close to your destination. Kudos to you guys. Kudos to that guy from texas as well. Guy rode that long from texas and florida has to have such spirit in oneself is the best thing one can travel and Without those bumps, it wouldnt be a long distance trip. Those are the best memories one wish to embrace with your baby🏍. For the next trip. Do a cross country tour to south america or possibly asia. Those are the best tour routes ever.

Epic trip.. I was choked to see Adam ride into the distance, the alone in a lonely place, then of all the things Andrew.. his story of those that turned back.. for all the money, just unable to afford the risk, just shows the true value of the Himalaya and maybe your grit. Both Andrews and Eden's bikes had taken some damage, yet then had done the greater mileage.. 8k for Eden from the Lone Star State. Stay safe and take care. Cheers

I'll admit, I felt a little bad letting him ride off by himself when he would have liked to continue riding together. It's just that it wasn't any part of my plan, nor did I have enough time to do all the extra riding. We parted on a really good note though.

We cycled to Prudhoe … the English one as part of our recent cycle from one side of England to the other following Hadrians wall - I did wonder if the Prudhoe where you are got it’s name from the Northumberland town and castle ?

It's possible there's a connection, as I believe British Petroleum was the first to develop the oil extraction in that area. I'm not sure about that, just thinking out loud.

I know what you mean about the difficulty being a positive part if it…hardest ride I ever did was from WA state to Vegas by way of Idaho and Oregon, over the mountains in April with two friends. We were all on Triumph Bonnevilles, not even windscreens on them. It was so cold we were building ice on our rain gear and forks from spray and rain/snow, thank goodness Oregon used deicer on the roads. Coming back from Vegas we rode the longest day of my life, 780 miles from Vegas to Santa Rosa, 600 of it in cold rain…we planned a shorter route but I5 was closed due to snow so we had to cross the coastal range and go up 101. So cold and wet, and all three bikes had mechanical issues too…it was wicked hard and miserable and was one of my very favorite rides ever! I wouldn’t change a thing about it, I will remember that feeling of accomplishment and the satisfaction of being able to do it forever.

That's great to hear, about the friends, wife and Himalayans. Trying to rope my wife into more moto trips. Did a ride into Denali Natl Park riding 2-up. Video coming soon. And she has a small bike she learned on, has her license, but she needs a bigger bike now for tackling highway speeds. She rented and rode in Peru a few years back. Pretty awesome! Hopefully she'll tackle some camping trips with me here in AK. You two ride safe, and never leave your wing man... or woman. 🙂

What a ride this must've been. Absolutely beautiful stuff. Last summer I had to abort my trek to Kebnekaise in September because there was a polar vortex above northern Scandinavia so I can understand why some people turned back. I didn't stop because of the cold though but because the snowflakes were so big and coming in so thick that I had to wipe the visor every 15 seconds or so. Nice to hear you're doing well.

Good to hear from you Dave. Himalayan Royalty is high praise. 🙂 So I've seen people online now that have more miles on their newer 2020 version than I have on my 2018. Those short weekend rides add up for people, whereas I've only crammed in a few long (perhaps very long) trips. I tend to ride the Suzuki Bandit on weekend highway rides and to meetings. Anyway, 5500 is acceptable in my book. Do you have any other bike, an old classic you can't part with perhaps?

@@KARMAkazeMoto big trip bike 2020 vstrom 1050xt 7800 miles on ...did a recent trip to shetland and orkney isles.👌..and ive just recently got a RE classic 350 really impressed with it ...a bike which i really should of kept honda xl250r did a lot of trail riding which is why i like himalayan its like a modern equivelant👌...cheers

I was just looking at the VStroms yesterday. Sharp looking bikes, and I'm assuming very adequate and comfortable for those big trips. I'd like to test one out in the not too distant future. Too bad money and time is being put into my new house, not motorcycles. Not that I'm complaining. Glad that 350 is treating you well. Says a lot about a rider when they can make use of a large CC bike and still get their kicks on a 350. They all do the speed limit, so CC's are of little concern for weekend joyriding and trips to the grocery store or cafe. 🙂 And now I see your miles are being spread across 3 bikes. And 7,800 on the Suzuki alone! Your remark on 5,500 miles on the Himalayan gave me the wrong impression, Sir. Sounded as if you hadn't had the opportunity to ride as much as you'd like. I was way off! 😃

Glad you're living the dream. I went into the bike dealer today to buy a new Himalayan and rode out on a sweet 2018 KLR 650 with lots of mods and only 3,402 miles. The price was very nice. The previous owner was maticulous with records of mods and maintenance. It has another year on the extended factory warranty. After 40 years of riding and several KLRs his hip told him KLR days were done. Its the 2nd KLR I've owned. Only bike I've done twice. In doing the comparison I knew both bikes are essentially the same weight, but the Himalayan has 60% of the hp of the KLR and KLRs are a bit slow on the rode. This KLR will do 100mph and cruise 80mph all day. I got it as a daily rider to replace a vStrom 650. Now to get past school and work and ride, besides commuting. I want head to Arizona around Sedona and Moab and out to Yellowstone. I did the flyby in my car a number of years ago.

I have been to Alaska twice, as I worked on cruise ships for many years, I think the best way to experience Alaska is by a cruise ship, the ship takes you through the inside passage where you can see so much wild life, the uninhabited parts of Alaska and the pure wilderness. I have recently been to Ladakh which is in the Himalayan range to the North of India, I thought it was more challenging than Alaska, because along with the severe cold of -6 degrees during the night you also have to deal with high altitude and the lack of oxygen.

I cant imagine going that far on a 1200 sportster, with that little tank you only have 100 miles before you have to fill up, love your videos, I plan since I'm an old fart and cant handle spills and picking up a bike anymore to get a Ural 2WD and start to explore this great state.

Hey Justin! Long time - no vid 😂. Well, except that I've just realised you released Part 6 a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get the alert for that but did for Part 7 - go figure... Anyhoo, it was worth the wait. I agree that no camera can capture the magnificence of reality, but you made a pretty darned good fist of it! The Alaska Tourist Board should be paying you. That landscape is amazing. Love the use you make of the 360 camera. There's a temptation to overdo it for some motovloggers - I think you hit the sweet spot 👌. Also love the way you montage stills with changes of perspective - very clever, and not something I've seen anyone else do. Is that taken from 360 footage? Keep up the excellent videography and story-telling my man. You are an inspiration 👏🤘

@@NotNowCato1254 Oh the perspective shifting! Are you talking about the beginning intro of the video? Those are a combination of photos from my phone, nikon camera, and screenshots from some of the video clips from the action cameras. So they all start as 2 dimensional flat jpeg images. There's an Adobe program that will allow you to stretch and warp different areas of the image to give it a different perspective. To be fully transparent, I started by purchasing a template that I loaded into the program, but then I had to replace the template images with my images, and do all the tracing of areas of the images for what gets stretched and warped. Hard to explain. Pretty tricky stuff even with the template.

A good friend of mine has his own small YT channel, so I have a fair idea of the time, effort and skill that goes into producing edited videos. Add an amazing backdrop, honesty and creativity = your stuff. Thanks for doing this, Justin - many of us really appreciate it 👍

There's another rugged road here called Denali Highway (not part of Denali Natl Park) that I'm planning to ride and incorporate some camping and a couple surprises if all goes well. Then maybe down to the coast along our Kenai Penninsula, among other shorter rides. The next video after the final part of the Prudhoe trip is a ride my wife and I did in Denali National Park together, both on the Himalayan. We won the road lottery that year to be allowed to drive all the way into the park (typically not allowed), so it should be a unique moto video.

Magnificent videos and trip. Following you I decided to buy the Himalayan, after a CRF1000L.Big difference. I want to make a tripfrom Valencia-Spain to Nordkapp in the north of Norway in the summer of 2023.In total they are about 12/13.000 kms. up through the Baltic Republics and Finland , and down the entire coast of Norway and Denmark. Many people say that it is not the right motorbike for this trip because there are many kilometers on spanish,french and german highways. But I see your videos and I think it is possible, so I would appreciate your opinion and advice for this trip. Thank you in advice and sorry for my english.

How many miles do you have on your Himi? How’s it holding up? I regrettably sold my 2022 this spring because I wasn’t riding it as much as I would like. But, now I’m actually thinking about buying another one! They are addictive! Thanks for the video series!

I think I'm at about 10,000 miles. You might expect more, but I have another bike, and then through covid while I've been renovating my home along with this summer being extremely rainy, I just haven't been out riding as much. There's a lot of people out there now with more miles than I put on mine. It doesn't help that I'm in Alaska where the riding season is so short. So here's a question for you, what type of riding are you most likely to be doing? Like would you be better off with a daily rider, something to get around town, weekend cruises, primarily on pavement, or are you more likely to only be doing adventurous you know off-road type stuff and long trips?

@@KARMAkazeMoto thanks for the reply! I understand the short season; I’m in North Dakota and we generally have about a five-month season. As far as my preferred riding. Right now I have a 2017 Honda CB1100. I enjoy the bike but more and more I want to avoid riding in traffic. I’m mainly like to just go out on short day trips at most…at least I do now. I’ve looked at a KLR but being 5’ 8”, it’s a little tall and heavy; it it fell over and I was alone…I’m screwed…lol There are miles of gravel roads in this state and I miss exploring. It looks like I e probably talked myself into another Himalayan…lol!

@@michaelchristopher2549 Ha! Nothing wrong with that! If you were doing more pavement, and if your back roads are graded well, you should really consider the Scram 411. Having spent the weekend riding one, I can tell you that it handles better and it's a bit more fun to ride. But if you think you'll be on terrain that requires that larger front wheel to roll over roots and rocks and things, then stick with the Himalayan.

@@michaelchristopher2549 in case you're not aware, the scram is the same bike as the Himalayan, only it has a smaller front wheel, wider front tire, more simple modern gauges, no windscreen, better side panels, fenders for the street, and no big cargo racks.
