Since Phoenix Splash TV passed 1000 subscribers recently I thought it would be fun to show my appreciation to them by making the next VF Lore video about Pai Chan, based on their request. Also, since we also passed 1000 subscribers ourselves we decided to put a little bit of special care into this edition. Hope you enjoy it!
*Editor's note: I borrowed a lot of footage from a variety of sources. Unfortunately I lost the paper that had the names of each source and links to each video in order to properly credit other creators. I'm going to put down as many sources as I can remember, but if you recognize some footage that has gone uncredited please let us know so that we can remedy the situation with an update in the description. I personally love Pai Chan especially her original costume. That outfit’s design and concept, as well as her character, is amazing. Her hat is very cute too, her color palette was perfect (red, blue, yellow) the outfit is actually functional, which everyone from VF have functional costumes.

Virtua Fighter characters arent bland, they are realistic. Thats what i love about Tekken and Virtua fighter. They blend realism and fiction.

In hindsight I would say they're better than Tekken characters. Tekken characters are mostly written as clowns unless they are a Mishima now.

Pai is one of the best character so far and I know she will win the tournament to surpass her father Lau Chan with the power of Ensei Ken. If Akira and Pai are fall in love with each other in just like the anime, that would be awesome in the games. Wonderful video, Virtua Bros. Remember that;Your kung fu is not strong enough.

Another thing I wanna mention is one big difference between Pai Chan and the other characters of her archetype is that she know how to let go . Lei fang fought until she was Jan Lee's equal even though he wanted nothing to do with her half the time and even now seemingly would rather have Diego , Ryu, or hitomi as a rival Xiaoyu is better in every way with out Jin. No matter what evil deeds he does she doesn't just move on with her life. Pai was neglected by her father and wanted to beat him but instead reached his level only to save him from the consequences of his obsession , and then when she finally acknowledged her she let him go,and she only intended fight him again just to say goodbye

Chun Li Zang, Pai Chan, Leifang and Ling Xiaoyu are the perfect Chinese Prodigies. I want to see Akira and Pai as a perfect couple in the story of the games just like the anime.

She actually has a really cool story with her father! I'm even impressed that she has more character development than other fighters and especially Tekken characters (for a game with no endings and stuff?). 😂

I found this one so emotional in a way like striving for justice. But in the end, you just want to make your family proud and be there for them. The resolution in this story was so emotional to me even if the end is not happy you grow. from everything in life, good or bad.

Yep, I'm starting to figure a way around these dumb robots that snipe down VF videos. I think people write off VF characters as generic and having no personality because console ports didn't have storylines or much in the way of cinematic cutscenes built into the games themselves. But in manuals, comics, animes, and spin off games the personalities of all the characters really shine.

I wish someone did lore video like this for DOA . Koei techmo treat it like the tiddy fighter because they not enough fans no that it doesn't have to be just that and the lore in that game up until recent years was so deep . I'm sad to see my to favorite 3D fighters in such a state . Also it's basically thanks to you that they both have dethroned Tekken .

@@VirtuaBrosAwesome! As long as you don't burn yourself out that's sounds like a great idea . Maybe just do a mostly Virtua fighter characters and mix some DOA and bloody roar in there every now and then ?

Pure grace with high speed attack patterns, Pai is the character to choose if you want to knock someone down in record time and keep them down. this girl is so fast in Virta fighter and fun to use. Ling Xaioyu and Chun Li can move over.

Thanks for putting this out. Got back into this series. Didn't know anyone would do something like this. BTW Don't think this series is underepeanted. Lived in Japan during VF2 and VF4 days. It was really huge at one point.

5:48 Pai is a solo unit in Project X Zone 2. Akira is paired with Kage Maru in that game

AM-2 should bring back Pai's yanqingquan strikes, throws, and aggressive reversals in the reboot while her baguazhang techniques are given to a new fighter.

Hah, glad you liked that. Good question. You know, when the Dreamcast was discontinued and Sega bowed out of the hardware race, they scattered their franchises across 3 platforms. GameCube got the sonci adventure games and skies of Arcadia. Xbox got panzer dragoon saga, jsrf, gun Valkyrie, Shenmue II, and outrun. PlayStation got VF4/Evo and Shinobi etc... It just sort of worked out that way. I would imagine they ported each game to the platform where they thought each series would be supported most.

To be fair. There being fans of the lore doesn't necessarily mean they are equal to number of people who prefer street fighters or tekken's lore, or that the characters aren't archetypical( although you could argue that they came out at a time where their respective archetypes weren't common place.)

Lion is next and yes, the series will continue. The last couple of years I've had a lot of life changes. Currently we are raising 6 month old twin boys. My personal health has been a challenge to stay on top of as well. Eventually I will get to it. Just can't commit to a deadline unfortunately.

Are you going to talk about Virtua Fighter characters in Sega Heroes? Also this may be an unpopular opinion, but I felt the last Virtua Fighter game showed the series was going to take a bad direction, so I'm glad it's kinda dead.

No, I haven't really played Sega heroes but I suppose it's worth looking into. If you're referring to final showdown, you aren't wrong about the way the console port was marketed and released, but vf5R in the arcades was mechanically a very solid installment of VF imo.

@@VirtuaBros Sega Heroes is not really worth it. The customer service hasn't been the best recently. You can just look up footage of the characters fighting. Final Showdown had some bugs that were annoying, but I was referring to the increase in juggling and new comedy moves like El Blaze spitting out green mist. If I wanted that in a fighting game, I would play DoA or Tekken.

@@imafreakinninja12 Ah I see. Well, to be fair, VF pretty much introduced juggling into 3d fighters from the start. And El Blaze spitting hot chilli into opponent's eyes doesn't seem too out of character for a luchador.

@@VirtuaBros I'd prefer if they didn't rely on bad jokes and instead relied on good game mechanics. I watch some wrestling but I'm not amused by their shallow attempts at drama or comedy when they do things like spit chili. I'm here to watch people fight, not spit at each other. I know Virtua Fighter always had a degree of juggling, but it was no where near the level of atrociousness compared to Tekken. With the introduction of combo samples in the move lists in Final Showdown, it was obvious that they were expanding juggling and focusing less on timing the opponent's moves for an opportunity to strike.
