I had a ruptured RCL in my thumb for two plus years till finally my insurance approved my surgery, got the thumb repaired but since leaving it injured for so long developed bad arthritis in my thumb and in pain from sun up to sun down. My pcp dismissed my pain from the start, finally got sent to a pain management doctor and they are the ones who have truly cared about me. Had to sign a contract and random urine and pill count but finally I am able to get pain pills to help me live a normal life as I can. I’m a care giver for my grandma so my thumb and hand is always in pain.

We need more advocates for chronic pain patients who are suffering because of bogus numbers. Myself included, when once in nearly seven years, I begged my doctor to approve an early refill because my back pain was getting worse (which according to a recent MRI shows disease progression) and because of my desperate request, dismissed me. I had been a completely compliant patient and she is kicking me to the curb. Please keep fighting for people who need these for better quality of life.

Also would like to add, good luck if you have horrific dental pain. You’re not getting help either. I had a simple root canal, dentist assured me I’d be in no pain and “prescribed “ ibuprofen 800mg. He botched the root canal and as a result I was in agonizing pain. Days turned into weeks, constantly calling the office begging for help. I had needle like stabbing 10/10 pain from my jaw down to my neck for three weeks, finally agreed to look at my tooth again. Discovered he left a shard and a part of the root. It was the most miserable three weeks of my life. Couldn’t sleep barely eat drink etc. and what I experienced isn’t close to what chronic pain victims often suffer. This is ridiculous

Sadly this is why the number one cause of death for men under 60 is fentanyl overdose. They are suffering pain and the government has established strict guidelines on opiate prescriptions which scare the hell out of doctors and pharmaceutical companies to the point where they don’t even accept pain patients or provide the medication they need. Now we now the CDC has been corrupted way before Covid-19 and has enriched its pockets along with China from the fall of pharmaceutical companies after being sued to hell. The fentanyl that has replaced medications for many desperate pain patients is a cause and effect from these government policies and regulations against legal opiate prescriptions. I hate how radio broadcasters are clueless when it comes to this topic, the whole main stream media is quiet on this topic as well because they were also driving the narrative on how bad the doctors and big pharma were. No one has been feeling better than Mexico’s drug cartels as well as the Chinese Communist Party. They’re the ones benefiting the most from our idiotic democratic woke policies at the cost of American lives!

The do-gooders think they are so damn smart. The fact is they lump all opioid drugs together, legally prescribed and street drugs that were purchased illegally when most overdoses are from heroin and fentanyl. They don't have a clue what this crackdown has done to people that have been injured real bad. I had many fractures, some compound fractures with nerve damage head to toe diagnosed by needle EMG. Only people with severe injuries should make these rules, not some pompous, self indulged, heavy drinking lawmakers that think they are better than everyone. Also they should break down the number of overdoses by medication, not lump them all together.

My doctor is retiring and now I am finding no doctor will take me due to my need of fentanyl. I am a cancer survivor radiation melted my left trigeminal ganglion. My case is so well documented. These meds give me a 3/10 pain level quality of life. Once meds run out my pain will go up to 10/10. No human can cope with 10/10! Cutting down prescribed drugs are killing people. I won’t be able to bear the electrocution pain called “suicide disease” I will be forced into dying and I don’t want to die. Just imagine an electric chair execution gone wrong it doesn’t kill and they bring you back over and over and over but it’s just torture not death. This is trigeminal electrocutions. CDC just published the 2022 update softening stating doctors took it to extreme. This guideline was never intended for cancer related pain. CPSO says blanket policies of “no narcotics” is not approved. I have applied to several hundred clinics and doctors many listed as “taking patients” but am Declined. So now a cancer patient is a victim of STIGMA and prejudice. My prescribed medications have absolutely nothing to do with the street killing drugs illicit crap that cartels are getting rich on and it’s killing people. It’s Unbelievable that street users are getting safe injection sites but a valid chronic (cancer) patient can’t get a doctor. My neurologist is retired but left his letters that there is no cure and these meds are for life. My GP now retiring also has given a letter these meds are required and patient does nit abuse. My doses have not changed in years. I had every surgery possible including open craniotomy but the trigeminal ganglion is melted the mylan nerve coating is gone and nerve is stuck to nerve in a big melted mess. I also lost my teeth to radiation and it left me legally blind. I battled cancer in my 40s, I battled pain in my 50s. I just want my meds so I can have reasonable quality of life at the 3/10 level of pain and live my 60’s. I am stable but time is running out!! I need a rational understanding doctor. What happened to doctors oath and do no harm. Well every decline and every clinic that ignores my applications with medical records attached is playing a part is putting me to death. I have never abused my meds, I never drank nor smoked. I am a decent person that got L orbital cancer and the radiation destroyed my nerves, teeth and eyes.

Sadly in Ontario Canada we can’t just call make an appointment and visit any doctor we wish to see. We must be assigned a doctor. I do not know if a second opinion still works here. True dear has destroyed our healthcare. You say dress appropriately. I always do I am a “lady” raised in skirts, blouses and dresses never pants. I wore a tiny bit of make upon my teen years and got the belt for that. I am very modest, honest and well educated. This denying a patient because they require opioids is manslaughter, it’s prejudice. I am a victim of cancer was told radiation was “perfectly safe” I trusted the oncologist but his 3,000 rads destroyed my life. I had previously asked for orbit and lacrimal be removed but he stated “that’s not how we deal with this (cancer)”. I have always respected my doctors and specialists who did all they could to get this resolved even open craniotomy. I am so well documented it’s ridiculous. Yet am being turned down by every doctor I apply to or inquire of. For the most part I would guess my applications never reach the physician’s eyes. They don’t get past the secretaries who are filtering “drug addicts”. It took 5 surgeries and 10 years to get my electrocutions to a 3/10 stable level. Without the pain control regime I will increase to 10/10 and must die one way or another. I am running out of time. Dear Dr Patrick Pang in Niagara (Chippewa) comes in to see me write my pXs. Waiting hoping I get a doctor and he needs to retire he is 72 years old. He deserves his retirement but there is no one to pass the torch to. All a new doctor has to do is follow instructions of my neurologist just as Dr P did for 7 years. I lost my 40s to cancer, lost my 50s to pain and surgeries and I am now 60. Looking like I won’t get to even live my 60s. People who see me see an almost normal pretty “lady” and that’s because these narcotics are doing their job allowing me to live an almost normal life. Soon it will go critical and Dr W neurologist stated “if these meds were ever discontinued likely you would never get this pain under control again”. My damage to intracranial ganglion pond is so rare Dr P of London University after my craniotomy entered my case as reference 1 in the Journals of Medicine. This damage is unheard of. I can not endure 9/10 or 10/10 pain and wait several years on waiting lists if I could get added. Ontario Canada and I would imagine all of Canada has aging doctors from baby boomer years retiring. These new doctors at least the last 6 years were fed the CDC hype that ALL opioids are evil killers. They have completely forgotten what these meds were created for and how many lives they have saved. My prescribed meds have absolutely nothing to do with street junkies addicts and the filth illicite drugs pushed on the streets. CDC has put out an amendment but it blames the doctors for taking their guideline to extremes. I will soon be just another statistic and I have told my husband that if opioids are put down as cause of death it’s a lie. It’s “denial of opioids” that will cause my death. What human could possibly endure up to 100 attempts to apply the electric chair to me? The pain is like that tazzer, electric and unmedicated threw me out of chairs and off my feet at any given moment. Stupid people saying “just get on a waiting list it will only be a year or two” and to me that is a year or two of being electrocuted 100 times a day for what crime? Having cancer? The CDC guidelines doesn’t even apply to cancer patients. Most with severe nerve damage will go to the streets to find pain control. Me? No I know nothing of that world and I would die trying those illicite drugs. I have never even smoked or drank. I am a cancer patient my letter from GP stated I was an Urgent need of continuum of pain control but hundreds of clinics just don’t care. I have been thinking of going to the news media. Cancer patient denied stable successful pain control medications. Soon it will be too late.

Goto prescriber check up. Look up the opioid you take and then you can see the number of Medicare prescriptions the provider made. It’s not perfect but you can ballpark and find a good pain doctor based on those numbers. There is no reason if you don’t take other sedatives that you can’t continue your opioids under the care of a pain management specialist.

It’s not just chronic pain. My late wife had MRSA on her skull and three large abscesses that had to be surgically drained daily in the hospital. She was in the hospital for three months. They would only give her ONE hydrocodone every six hours, this was during Covid I couldn’t even visit or confront the staff. She would call me sobbing in pain begging me to do something. I talked to everyone at the hospital and nobody cared and stone walled me, in desperation I reached out to her pcp and he risked his career to take care of her. One time I was on speakerphone and the nurse didn’t know and walked in and told her she needed to “quiet down she is disturbing the other patients” … with her screaming and crying in uncontrolled pain. Due to conditions we later found out through her pcp, the hydrocodone what little they were giving her was unable to metabolize properly in her system. She essentially spent three months in a hospital with daily surgeries with zero pain relief.

@dr9660 Similar thing has happened to many. But please dr9660, saying "one hydrocodone" every 6 hours tells us nothing about how much opioid pain relief she got. Hydrocodone comes in various dosages. It comes mixed together with non-opioid pain relievers. To give us an idea of what she was being prescribed, and how much pain relief that might have provided, you have to tell us how much hydrocodone was in each dosage unit, whether it was oral or injected intravenously intramuscularly, or subcutaneously, and if what else was in the tablet, capsule, or injection. Or better yet, I think the simplest way to describe opioid pain relief is in terms of Morphine Milligram Equivalents (MME). You can look this up on-line, and then just tell us the MME value of what someone was prescribed. For example 8 mg of oral hydromorphone when taken orally has an oral MME of 32 (32 milligrams of morphine taken orally). So if someone was given 8 mg of oral hydromorphone you could say she was given an oral dose of 32 MMEs. However the intravenous equivalencies are different than the oral equivalencies.10 mg of intravenous morphine is equivalent to about 30 mg of oral morphine. It's 3 times a strong when given intravenously. However hydromorphone is, if I recall correctly, 10 times as strong if given intravenously.

@@dr9660I see what you are sayin. She was not given enough opioids to control her pain. All I was saying is by saying "one hydrocodone" you are not telling us how much hydrocodone that was. Was that one 5 mg dose or one 30 mg dose? To know whether she was given enough hydrocodone, we need to know how much hydrocodone she was given, not how many hydrocodone pills she was given.

@@soilmantedI agree with OP's statement. While your info is informative to some degree, any clinically safe dosage of hydrocodone seems it would clearly be insufficient for managing post operative pain. Unless what you're getting at is how much paperwork doctors need to do in order to administer opioid meds. Which also is irrelevant.
@soilmanted
@soilmanted 10 ай бұрын
@@terrapinflyer273What I was getting at is that saying how many "pills" someone was given, tells us nothing about how much pain relief they were given, unless we know 2 thing: what was the active ingredients or ingredients of the pill, and something equally important - that was left out - _how much of that ingredient is in each pill. Someone given 3 immediate-release morphine pill containing containing 15 mg each, was given LESS morphine than someone given one immediate-release containing 60 mg of morphine. The amount of morphine is what's relevant, not the number of pills. But I keep on hearing people say so and so was given only 1 pill and it wasn't enough, or they were given 4 pills and it was too much - without telling us how much was in each pill. Over and over I hear people saying nonsense like that.

I survived my eye cancer but am legally blind, lost all my teeth, and have damaged trigeminal nerves inside my skull. I had 5 surgeries including brain surgery to try to stop the electrocutions. Unsuccessful. I was started on opioids several years ago they reduce my pain to a 3/10 level. A reasonable quality of life. My Toronto neurologist retired, now my General family doctor has retired he kept my pain control meds going for 7 years. I have well documented medical records. But finding a primary doctor who understands that there are patients that benefit from narcotics and do not abuse their meds is proving impossible. Most doctors label anyone needing narcotics as drug addicts. My nerve pain is severe. My retiring doctor left a letter that I urgently require a doctor to continue my meds. The CDC and CPSO guideline doesn’t apply to cancer patients. Hundreds of applications to doctors and not one has taken on my case. I am easy to maintain just 15 minutes once a month to renew my medications. The street illicite drug users are not just killing themselves but also severe pain patients. I have never abused my pain control medications. With meds ending and care denied my pain will go 10/10. My neurologist had warned me once pain breaks free unmediated highly likely never get it back under control again. I will have no choice but to end my life due to street addict stigma. I am a victim of cancer and now a victim of prejudice. Rose in Southern Ontario Canada. My time is running out.

90,000 overdose events recorded in in 2020 (not mentioned: specific drug causing overdose deaths; if overdose was fatal. Also during the height of the covid pandemic.). 87% of those overdose events not caused by fentanyl or heroin. Not prescription opioids. Out of 20 million pain patients prescribed opioids (if that isn't an old number), 4 years after the 2016 CDC Opioid Guidelines were enforced. Essentially forcing pain management doctors and general practitioners to terminate their patients in fear of losing their license to practice medicine. Potentially resulting in a cacophony of effects on their patients. Suicide rates among these patients jumped as much as 470%. Many of them veterans. As the 2016 guidelines resulted in targeting them specifically. There is a difference between addiction and dependence. The CDC relaxed their opioid guidelines in 2021. Now how long will it take government agencies and doctors to accept these findings?

Please bring back Darvon. You know, the opium based medication that was widely prescribed for the better part of 100 years with outstanding results, and then was pulled off the market (almost overnight in 2010) because the patent was running out, so they lied, lied, lied and then yanked it off the market just so it wouldn't go generic (Before all that, you basically didn't need a perscription to take opium products). Of course, by 2010 there was so much harmfull "buffers" mixed in that it wasn't the same anymore. Darvon (and/or the like) without buffers, will do most to everybody the best good possible. Opium has been dated back to more than 100 million years ago, and so have we. We have massive real-opium receptors in our brains for evolutionary reasons. Fentanyl is not opium. Fentanyl is 100% lab-made. Opium is 100% NOT-lab-made and should remain natural in that way, again, for evolutionary reasons and should be taken in evolutionary quantities. Life might very well return back to normal if we do.

@@dianneredd3031 I don't mean to sound uncaring, I do care about such things, but there are genes that ~98% of human beings have that actually prevent us from becoming physically addicted to normal amounts of opium without harm. For almost all of us, the amount, within some common sense, doesn't make us addicted but may do harm depending on the amount. If someone wants to do themsevle's harm thats a different situation, which can happen in many many different ways, not just opium. The truth is that ~1.5% (very likely less) of the population lack these opium non-addiction genes, and these are most, by far, of the people that wind up on the steets that get shown on the news, in movies and such. So, what about the ~98% of the rest of us? This whole opium thing that we are currently under is a huge, and I mean big-time huge, giga-money making sham-scam. Have you ever known of anybody, not on the street, that is truely "physically" addicted to opium that are not just attempting to hurt themsevles (peer pressure excluded)? I don't, and I had to stop-cold when they pulled Darvon off of the market, so I'm including myself in that aswell. Funny how things we evolved with, actually make our lives better, with or without extreme pain. Some people are now turning to street drugs solely because of this opium scam. That way the made-up addiction numbers sounds a little bit more believeable.

I am a cancer pt with extreme radiation induced nerve damage inside my cranium being denied a primary care doctor because of narcotic stigma! Narcotics were made for severe nerve damage. My doses are low according to neurologist who studied and did symposiums worldwide. I was told “radiation is perfectly safe” but it caused blindness, melted death which just doesn’t hapoen teeth survive thousand years in the grave not breaking down, and melted the myelin coating off of major trigeminal ganglion nerves. A friend got me into her Nurse Practitioner after I had over 1,000 rejections!! Clinic applications are nothing but a filter to cherry pick easy cases. The College of Physcians and Surgeons states quite clearly urgent cases are to be taken before first come first serve, no narcotic “blanket” policy’s” are not permitted but are common place!! CPSO also says no prejudice against those who require narcotics, I am being FORCED to sell our paid in full retirement home and hope it sells brings enough $$ to buy 800 km north by new Nurse Practitioner. Otherwise meds would end and so must my life!! My meds have kept me stable at a 3/10 quality of life after Oncologist caused this damage. I did nit abuse my body. 5 surgeries including craniotomy and no one could stop these electrocutions. It’s like going to an electric chair hundreds of times a day but due to malfunction the chair (tazzer) doesn’t quite kill. I am treated like a drug addict criminal fir needing serious pain relief. If any doctor decides to take a stable patient and turn them into an unstable crisis of pain they had better have a phenobarbital injection ready to end my torture!! There is no cure no ganglion transplant available. My normal life ended nit due to cancer but due to an oncologist in Toronto who refused to remove lacrimal gland and choose to radiate the heck out of my brain, eyes and teeth!! And he did so knowingly as it’s his specialty. Am I next to due due to stigma and prejudice? Forced to sell my house, leave friends, family etc a beautiful area sunny warm southern Ontario to go 200 miles north of North Bay hoping for proper care. So far no offer pending sale if my house has been accepted. I might just be homeless until house down south sells. Anyone who wants to kick the legs out from under the table ruining years of work thinks try it just go back if it doesn’t work…no…my neurologist clearly stated if pain goes out of control ie unmedicated then quite likely never regain control. Essentially kill a person because they fear a number sone “guideline” stated. CDC 2022 new update states doctors took the guidelines to extremes when it was meant to stop new unnecessary addictions ie broken finger give narcotics and finger heals drugs continued. Doctors were pushed by big pharma to push their pain meds. Narcotics do have a proper place in extreme care. I have even been told my pain is not “cancer related” yes it is cancer and it’s treatments causing extreme damage justify narcotic need especially with no meds surgical or other options left everything tried. Over 10 years I have required no dose increases = STABLE. Would you deny insulin to a diabetic once they become “stable” certainly nit. No difference between needing pain relief or insulin for quality of life. I will most likely die not of natural causes. What is happening in the streets the bricks of peddled killer drugs I will not call that junk medications. These addicts to street killer drugs need medical help not safe injection sites and clean needles. What they are doing to themselves should have no bearing on what the severe pain patient needs!!

I don't know how much longer I can take it. No one in the medical field cares. I went to pain management and all he gave me was muscle relaxers and barely any of those. They don't help much. The pain management doctor was cold and uncaring. I pray the laws change before it's too late for me. If I ever do take my life I'm sending registered letters to the governors office, the media and all the doctors who refused to help me letting them know that if they had just given me so pain relief so I could live a somewhat normal life, this wouldn't have happened and that my blood is on their hands.

Pain clinic doctors are being allowed to treat pain patients with a careless disregard that NO other medical discipline would ever be allowed to. They are willing to see their patients lives destroyed rather than providing the care they swore to, simply because it’s easy and no government body is holding them accountable.

There's today an overwhelming percentage of 'journalists' that only do the government's bidding. Complete sellouts; of whom I have zero respect for. The days of investigative journalists going against the government's narrative are long gone. When one surfaces, they are marginalized and cancelled quickly.

This was so predictable when hydrocodone was put in the same category as morphine. People can't get meds, go to the streets, and end up with tainted products. Trying to regulate rules aimed at folks who don't follow rules is punitive to the rest of us with documented pain conditions- leading folks to go to the streets or suicide. I've been jumping through hoops for a while trying to get something just to make it seem worth sucking air. I'm getting to the end of my limits- it's been 28 years of chronic pain.

There is a shortage of pain meds because the DEA has cut production of pain meds every year for years. It's not people in severe pain at fault that opioids are the best treatment for severe pain. Come up with something that works as well and stop trying to be save people that abuse the drugs. Thanks DEA for causing a 470% increase in suicides in pain patients. Treat the addicts and leave us alone! We pay your ridiculous salaries.

Also please note that when a prescription of a narcotic is legally prescribed to a legitimate chronic pain patient, if that medicine is either diverted or stolen and ends up being used by someone else, then it is not really being used as a prescribed pain medicine at that time.

The Opiods don’t work in the long run. After 8 1/2 years on them, I am completely off. The withdrawal took over 3 years. Been off for 5 weeks now. Now using Kratom, and it helped me get off the opiods. Nasty stuff!

Happy for you. I was on opioids for 15 years, forced off for 5 years. I take kratom too and in my book it is like taking bread crumbs/scraps like a dog. To each their own. We need free choice we are not all the same.

I'm so happy to see this story! I'd been on pain meds since 2008 without problems until the last two years, when I've had to go to the E.R. (with pain and anxiety) because I couldn't access my medication at the pharmacy due to obstacles created by these lawsuits and pressure from the DEA. My doctor has been forced to reduce my pain meds, which forced me to take early retirement on a job I loved. At times, I am terrified that I will not survive this.

When everyone cheered the tobacco lawsuits everyone could see where that would lead. Governments suing for any issue they deem bad. Yet who gets the money? I remember the tobacco suit where the said the money would go towards treatment but the price of nicotine replacement therapy doubled in price …. He where did those billions go?

I agree, I’m in pain and just wish I can get something stronger than Tylenol. My legs are so painful it hurts to walk and it hurts even just touching my legs. I cried to my doctor and I still got a no. What sucks is I’m a nurse, and I’m also a mother of three… I feel I can’t do anything or even control my life as I’m always in bed.

Im a recovered alcoholic 15 yrs with chronic back pain. Over the years, the pain has gotten worse and has become more dibilitating. I have a pc, i go to therapy twice a week, i use max over the counter solutions and do exercises for my back but i still have really bad weeks where its almost impossible to work and live the way im used to. Asking for muscle relaxers or pain killers that have worked in the past to get me through a short time now gets me akward conversations about addiction from a Dr that took two weeks training on it. Then God forbid I speak up for myself and now im a problem patient seeking drugs that for some reason deserves to be treated like scum.

It's not your place to gate keep pain relief because you are uneducated, bored, or frustrated with a complicated matter your well paid honorable profession requires you to deal with. It's not any kind of solution to anything.

A physician can document everything, back it up with second opinion referrals, etc. But it does not matter if the medical board targets you. If physicians do as you request, many will have their careers destroyed, become impoverished, have their marriages destroyed, have their families destroyed, and have their children traumatized. I know. I lived through it and am still living through it. My experiences have made me lose all trust in the government and made me now realize that the U.S. is no longer a free nation but has become a conglomeration of Administrative State dictatorships. No one elects them. No one can legally get rid of them. They don't have to answer, beyond mere lip service, to the public or the lawmakers. And they act as judge, jury, and executioner. Do you know that many medical boards are now actually run by appointed attorneys?

I think there needs to be a huge law suit for false information and made up lies, these people need to be held accountable for people who have killed themselves as a result of bogus claims about being addicted. Have chronic pain and pain meds help my life, not addiction.

❗️There is a big difference in a true pain patient, vs. an “OUD” Opioid Use Disorder patient vs. an unsubscribed drug user. All three need the right medical program and treatment decided by the medical community, not decided by some politicians who are not in any way medically qualified.

"In 2022, California's lawsuit ended up with CVS Health and Walgreens agreeing to pay about $5 billion each to settle a raft of lawsuits brought by state and local governments accusing the chains of filling prescriptions that should have been flagged as inappropriate". The Government wont let up, and Doctor's are still pushing OTC meds..instead of drawing attention to themselves, by prescribing appropriate pain meds. 😡
